Enhancement of the sterile neutrinos yield at high matter density and at increasing the medium neutronization

The relative yields of active and sterile neutrinos in the matter with a high density and different degree of neutronization are calculated. A significant increase in the proportion of sterile neutrinos produced in superdense matter when degree of neutronization approaches the value of two is found. The results obtained can be used in the calculations of the neutrino fluxes for media with a high density and different neutronization degrees in astrophysical processes such as the formation of protoneutron core of a supernova.

Some properties of convection in hybrid stars

It is shown that the unusual thermodynamic properties of matter within the region of two-phase coexistence in hybrid stars result in a change of the standard condition for beginning of convection. In particular, the thermal flux transported by convection may be directed towards the stellar center. We discuss favorable circumstances leading to such an effect of "inverse convection" and its possible influence on the thermal evolution of hybrid stars.

Special point on the mass radius diagram of hybrid stars

An analytical study that explains the existence of a very small region on the mass radius diagram of hybrid stars where all of the lines representing the sequences of models with different constant values of the bag constant B intersect is presented. This circumstance is shown to be a consequence of the linear dependence of pressure on energy density in the quark cores of hybrid stars.

Coupling of matter and radiation at supernova shock breakout

Some features of the physics of radiation-dominated shock waves are discussed with emphasis on the peculiarities which are important for correct numerical modeling of shock breakouts in supernova. With account of those peculiarities, a number of models for different supernova types is constructed based on multigroup radiation transfer coupled to hydrodynamics. We describe the implementation of a new algorithm RADA, designed for modeling photon transfer at extremely-relativistic motions of matter, into our older code STELLA. The results of numerical simulations of light curves, and continuum spectra are presented. The influence of effects of photon scattering on electrons, of thermalization depth and of special relativity in transfer equation is considered. Some cases are demonstrated, when the appearance of hard X-ray emission is possible at the shock breakout. The necessary refinements in numerical algorithms for radiative transfer and hydrodynamics are pointed out. Prospects for using the results of numerical simulation to analyze and interpret available and future data from space observatories are discussed.

Nuclear matter at high density: Phase transitions, multiquark states, and supernova outbursts

Phase transition from hadronic matter to quark-gluon matter is discussed for various regimes of temperature and baryon number density. For small and medium densities, the phase transition is accurately described in the framework of the Field Correlation Method, whereas at high density predictions are less certain and leave room for the phenomenological models. We study formation of multiquark states (MQS) at zero temperature and high density. Relevant MQS components of the nuclear matter can be described using a previously developed formalism of the quark compound bags (QCB). Partial-wave analysis of nucleon-nucleon scattering indicates the existence of 6QS which manifest themselves as poles of $P$-matrix. In the framework of the QCB model, we formulate a self-consistent system of coupled equations for the nucleon and 6QS propagators in nuclear matter and the G-matrix. The approach provides a link between high-density nuclear matter with the MQS components and the cumulative effect observed in reactions on the nuclei, which requires the admixture of MQS in the wave functions of nuclei kinematically. 6QS determine the natural scale of the density for a possible phase transition into the MQS phase of nuclear matter. Such a phase transition can lead to dynamic instability of newly born protoneutron stars and dramatically affect the dynamics of supernovae. Numerical simulations show that the phase transition may be a good remedy for the triggering supernova explosions in the spherically symmetric supernova models. A specific signature of the phase transition is an additional neutrino peak in the neutrino light curve. For a Galactic core-collapse supernova, such a peak could be resolved by the present neutrino detectors. The possibility of extracting the parameters of the phase of transition from observation of the neutrino signal is discussed also.

Similarity theory of stellar models and structure of very massive stars

The similarity theory of stellar structure is used to study the properties of very massive stars when one can neglect all the sources of opacity except for the Thomson scattering. The dimensionless internal structure of such stars is practically independent of the energy generation law. It is shown that the mass-luminosity relation can be approximated by an analytical expression which is virtually universal regarding the chemical composition and energy generation law. A detailed comparison with the Eddington standard model is given. The application of the obtained results to the observations of massive stars is briefly discussed.

The neutrino-induced neutron source in helium shell and r-process nucleosynthesis

The huge neutrino pulse that occurs during the collapse of a massive stellar core, is expected to contribute to the origination of a number of isotopes both of light chemical elements and heavy ones. It is shown that, in general, the heating of stellar matter due to the neutrino scattering off electrons and the heat released from the neutrino-helium breakup followed by the thermonuclear reactions should be taken into account. On the base of kinetic network, using all the important reactions up to Z=8, the main features and the time-dependent character of the neutrino- driven neutron flux are investigated. The time-dependent densities of free neutrons produced in helium breakup, Y_n(t), were used to calculate the r-process nucleosynthesis with another full kinetic network for 3200 nuclides. It was found that in the case of metal-deficient stars, Z < 0.01 Z(solar), the resulting density of free neutrons seems to be high enough to drive the r-process efficiently under favorable conditions. But it is impossible to obtain a sufficient amount of heavy nuclei in neutrino-induced r-process in a helium shell at radii R > R_cr \approx 10^9 cm. We speculate that to make the neutrino-induced r-process work efficiently in the shell, one has to invoke nonstandard presupernova models in which helium hopefully is closer to the collapsed core owing, for instance, to a large scale mixing or/and rotation and magnetic fields. Apart from this exotic possibility, the neutrino-induced nucleosynthesis in the helium shell is certainly not strong enough to explain the observed solar r-process abundances.
