Asymptotic of the smallest eigenvalues of the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian in $d \leq 3$

We consider the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian with white noise potential on $(-L/2,L/2)^d$ in dimension $d\le 3$, and derive the asymptotic of the smallest eigenvalues when $L$ goes to infinity. We show that these eigenvalues go to $-\infty$ at speed $(\log L)^{1/(2-d/2)}$ and identify the prefactor in terms of the optimal constant of the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality. This result was already known in dimensions $1$ and $2$, but appears to be new in dimension $3$. We present some conjectures on the fluctuations of the eigenvalues and on the asymptotic shape of the corresponding eigenfunctions near their localisation centers.

Hydrodynamic limit and cutoff for the biased adjacent walk on the simplex

We investigate the asymptotic in $N$ of the mixing times of a Markov dynamics on $N-1$ ordered particles in an interval. This dynamics consists in resampling at independent Poisson times each particle according to a probability measure on the segment formed by its nearest neighbours. In the setting where the resampling probability measures are symmetric, the asymptotic of the mixing times were obtained and a cutoff phenomenon holds. In the present work, we focus on an asymmetric version of the model and we establish a cutoff phenomenon. An important part of our analysis consists in the derivation of a hydrodynamic limit, which is given by a non-linear Hamilton-Jacobi equation with degenerate boundary conditions.

Improper legitimization of hijacked journals through citations

The goal is to study the prevalence of citajacked papers: papers in authentic scientific journals citing hijacked journals, in academic literature. A Citejacked detector was designed as a part of the Problematic Paper Screener (https://www.irit.fr/~Guillaume.Cabanac/problematic-paper-screener/citejacked) to trace if the references to articles originating from hijacked journals infiltrate scientific communication. A full-text search was performed between November 2021 and January 2022 in the Dimensions database using the name of 1 of the 12 hijacked journals. The analysis of the bibliography in these articles revealed that 828 of them cite unreliable articles from hijacked journals. During 01.Jan.2021-31.Jan.2022, an average of 2 citejacked articles has been published daily in established journals. Given the limited number of titles included in this study, the phenomenon might be wider and is not yet systematically studied.

Universal cutoff for Dyson Ornstein Uhlenbeck process

We study the Dyson-Ornstein-Uhlenbeck diffusion process, an evolving gas of interacting particles. Its invariant law is the beta Hermite ensemble of random matrix theory, a non-product log-concave distribution. We explore the convergence to equilibrium of this process for various distances or divergences, including total variation, relative entropy, and transportation cost. When the number of particles is sent to infinity, we show that a cutoff phenomenon occurs: the distance to equilibrium vanishes abruptly at a critical time. A remarkable feature is that this critical time is independent of the parameter beta that controls the strength of the interaction, in particular the result is identical in the non-interacting case, which is nothing but the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process. We also provide a complete analysis of the non-interacting case that reveals some new phenomena. Our work relies among other ingredients on convexity and functional inequalities, exact solvability, exact Gaussian formulas, coupling arguments, stochastic calculus, variational formulas and contraction properties. This work leads, beyond the specific process that we study, to questions on the high-dimensional analysis of heat kernels of curved diffusions.

Localization crossover for the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian in $1$-d

We investigate the behavior of the spectrum of the continuous Anderson Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_L$, with white noise potential, on a segment whose size $L$ is sent to infinity. We zoom around energy levels $E$ either of order $1$ (Bulk regime) or of order $1\ll E \ll L$ (Crossover regime). We show that the point process of (appropriately rescaled) eigenvalues and centers of mass converge to a Poisson point process. We also prove exponential localization of the eigenfunctions at an explicit rate. In addition, we show that the eigenfunctions converge to well-identified limits: in the Crossover regime, these limits are universal. Combined with the results of our companion paper arXiv:2102.05393, this identifies completely the transition between the localized and delocalized phases of the spectrum of $\mathcal{H}_L$. The two main technical challenges are the proof of a two-points or Minami estimate, as well as an estimate on the convergence to equilibrium of a hypoelliptic diffusion, the proof of which relies on Malliavin calculus and the theory of hypocoercivity.

The delocalized phase of the Anderson Hamiltonian in $1$-d

We introduce a random differential operator, that we call the $\mathtt{CS}_τ$ operator, whose spectrum is given by the $\mbox{Sch}_τ$ point process introduced by Kritchevski, Valkó and Virág (2012) and whose eigenvectors match with the description provided by Rifkind and Virág (2018). This operator acts on $\mathbf{R}^2$-valued functions from the interval $[0,1]$ and takes the form: $$ 2 \begin{pmatrix} 0 & -\partial_t \\ \partial_t & 0 \end{pmatrix} + \sqrtτ \begin{pmatrix} d\mathcal{B} + \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_1 & \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_2\\ \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_2 & d\mathcal{B} - \frac1{\sqrt 2} d\mathcal{W}_1\end{pmatrix}\,, $$ where $d\mathcal{B}$, $d\mathcal{W}_1$ and $d\mathcal{W}_2$ are independent white noises. Then, we investigate the high part of the spectrum of the Anderson Hamiltonian $\mathcal{H}_L := -\partial_t^2 + dB$ on the segment $[0,L]$ with white noise potential $dB$, when $L\to\infty$. We show that the operator $\mathcal{H}_L$, recentred around energy levels $E \sim L/τ$ and unitarily transformed, converges in law as $L\to\infty$ to $\mathtt{CS}_τ$ in an appropriate sense. This allows to answer a conjecture of Rifkind and Virág (2018) on the behavior of the eigenvectors of $\mathcal{H}_L$. Our approach also explains how such an operator arises in the limit of $\mathcal{H}_L$. Finally we show that at higher energy levels, the Anderson Hamiltonian matches (asymptotically in $L$) with the unperturbed Laplacian $-\partial_t^2$. In a companion paper, it is shown that at energy levels much smaller than $L$, the spectrum is localized with Poisson statistics: the present paper therefore identifies the delocalized phase of the Anderson Hamiltonian.

Spectral gap and cutoff phenomenon for the Gibbs sampler of $\nablaφ$ interfaces with convex potential

We consider the Gibbs sampler, or heat bath dynamics associated to log-concave measures on $\mathbb{R}^N$ describing $\nablaφ$ interfaces with convex potentials. Under minimal assumptions on the potential, we find that the spectral gap of the process is always given by $\mathrm{gap}_N=1-\cos(π/N)$, and that for all $ε\in(0,1)$, its $ε$-mixing time satisfies $T_N(ε)\sim \frac{\log N}{2\mathrm{gap}_N}$ as $N\to\infty$, thus establishing the cutoff phenomenon. The results reveal a universal behavior in that they do not depend on the choice of the potential.

From flows of Lambda Fleming-Viot processes to lookdown processes via flows of partitions

The goal of this paper is to unify the lookdown representation and the stochastic flow of bridges, which are two approaches to construct the $Λ$-Fleming-Viot process along with its genealogy. First we introduce the stochastic flow of partitions and show that it provides a new formulation of the lookdown representation. Second we study the asymptotic behaviour of the $Λ$-Fleming-Viot process and we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of an infinite sequence of Eves that generalise the primitive Eve of Bertoin and Le Gall. Finally under the condition that this infinite sequence of Eves does exist, we construct the lookdown representation pathwise from a flow of bridges.

Genealogy of flows of continuous-state branching processes via flows of partitions and the Eve property

We encode the genealogy of a continuous-state branching process associated with a branching mechanism $Ψ$ - or $Ψ$-CSBP in short - using a stochastic flow of partitions. This encoding holds for all branching mechanisms and appears as a very tractable object to deal with asymptotic behaviours and convergences. In particular we study the so-called Eve property - the existence of an ancestor from which the entire population descends asymptotically - and give a necessary and sufficient condition on the $Ψ$-CSBP for this property to hold. Finally, we show that the flow of partitions unifies the lookdown representation and the flow of subordinators when the Eve property holds.

On the Eve property for CSBP

We consider the population model associated to continuous state branching processes and we are interested in the so-called Eve property that asserts the existence of an ancestor with an overwhelming progeny at large times, and more generally, in the possible behaviours of the frequencies among the population at large times. In this paper, we classify all the possible behaviours according to the branching mechanism of the continuous state branching process.

Scaling limits of weakly asymmetric interfaces

We consider three models of evolving interfaces intimately related to the weakly asymmetric simple exclusion process with $N$ particles on a finite lattice of $2N$ sites. Our Model 1 defines an evolving bridge on $[0,1]$, our Model 1-w an evolving excursion on $[0,1]$ while our Model 2 consists of an evolving pair of non-crossing bridges on $[0,1]$. Based on the observation that the invariant measures of the dynamics depend on the area under (or between) the interface(s), we characterise the scaling limits of the invariant measures when the asymmetry of the exclusion process scales like $N^{-\frac{3}{2}}$. Then, we show that the scaling limits of the dynamics themselves are expressed in terms of variants of the stochastic heat equation. In particular, in Model 1-w we obtain the well-studied reflected stochastic heat equation introduced by Nualart and Pardoux.
