Galois sets of connected components and Weil restriction

Let $k$ be a field, $A$ a finite $k$-algebra and $X$ a smooth $A$-scheme. We describe the Galois set of connected components of the Weil restriction $\Re_{A/k}(X)$ in terms of the sets of connected components of the geometric fibers of $X$.

We define the algebraic fundamental group functor of a reductive group scheme over an arbitrary (non-empty) base scheme and prove that this functor is exact.

Quasi-abelian crossed modules and nonabelian cohomology

We extend the work of M.Borovoi on the nonabelian Galois cohomology of linear reductive algebraic groups over number fields to a general base scheme. As an application, we obtain new results on the arithmetic of such groups over global function fields.
