On the entrance at infinity of Feller processes with no negative jumps

Consider a non-explosive positive Feller process with no negative jumps. It is shown in this note that when infinity is an entrance boundary, in the sense that the entrance times of the process remain bounded when the initial value tends to infinity, the process admits a Feller extension on the compactified state space $[0,\infty]$. Moreover, when started from infinity, the extended Markov process on $[0,\infty]$ leaves infinity instantaneously and stays finite, almost-surely. Arguments are adapted from a proof given by O. Kallenberg for diffusions. We also show that the process started from $x$ converges weakly towards that started from infinity in the Skorokhod space, when $x$ goes to infinity.

Local extinction in continuous-state branching processes with immigration

The purpose of this article is to observe that the zero sets of continuous-state branching processes with immigration (CBI) are infinitely divisible regenerative sets. Indeed, they can be constructed by the procedure of random cutouts introduced by Mandelbrot in 1972. We then show how very precise information about the zero sets of CBI can be obtained in terms of the branching and immigrating mechanism.

On the hitting times of continuous-state branching processes with immigration

We study the two-dimensional joint distribution of the first hitting time of a constant level by a continuous-state branching process with immigration and their primitive stopped at this time. We show an explicit expression of its Laplace transform. Using this formula, we study the polarity of zero and provide a necessary and sufficient criterion for transience or recurrence. We follow the approach of Shiga, T. (1990) [A recurrence criterion for Markov processes of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type. Probability Theory and Related Fields, 85(4), 425-447], by finding some $λ$-invariant functions for the generator.

Generalized Fleming-Viot processes with immigration via stochastic flows of partitions

The generalized Fleming-Viot processes were defined in 1999 by Donnelly and Kurtz using a particle model and by Bertoin and Le Gall in 2003 using stochastic flows of bridges. In both methods, the key argument used to characterize these processes is the duality between these processes and exchangeable coalescents. A larger class of coalescent processes, called distinguished coalescents, was set up recently to incorporate an immigration phenomenon in the underlying population. The purpose of this article is to define and characterize a class of probability-measure valued processes called the generalized Fleming-Viot processes with immigration. We consider some stochastic flows of partitions of Z_{+}, in the same spirit as Bertoin and Le Gall's flows, replacing roughly speaking, composition of bridges by coagulation of partitions. Identifying at any time a population with the integers $\mathbb{N}:=\{1,2,...\}$, the formalism of partitions is effective in the past as well as in the future especially when there are several simultaneous births. We show how a stochastic population may be directly embedded in the dual flow. An extra individual 0 will be viewed as an external generic immigrant ancestor, with a distinguished type, whose progeny represents the immigrants. The "modified" lookdown construction of Donnelly-Kurtz is recovered when no simultaneous multiple births nor immigration are taken into account. In the last part of the paper we give a sufficient criterion for the initial types extinction.

Stable continuous branching processes with immigration and Beta-Fleming-Viot processes with immigration

Branching processes and Fleming-Viot processes are two main models in stochastic population theory. Incorporating an immigration in both models, we generalize the results of Shiga (1990) and Birkner et al. (2005) which respectively connect the Feller diffusion with the classical Fleming-Viot process and the alpha-stable continuous state branching process with the Beta(2-alpha, alpha)-generalized Fleming-Viot process. In a recent work, a new class of probability-measure valued processes, called M-generalized Fleming-Viot processes with immigration, has been set up in duality with the so-called M-coalescents. The purpose of this article is to investigate the links between this new class of processes and the continuous-state branching processes with immigration. In the specific case of the $α$-stable branching process conditioned to be never extinct, we get that its genealogy is given, up to a random time change, by a Beta(2-alpha, alpha-1)-coalescent.

Distinguished exchangeable coalescents and generalized Fleming-Viot processes with immigration

Coalescents with multiple collisions (also called Lambda-coalescents or simple exchangeable coalescents) are used as models of genealogies. We study a new class of Markovian coalescent processes connected to a population model with immigration. Imagine an infinite population with immigration labelled at each generation by N:={1,2,...}. Some ancestral lineages cannot be followed backwards after some time because their ancestor is outside the population. The individuals with an immigrant ancestor constitute a distinguished family and we define exchangeable distinguished coalescent processes as a model for genealogy with immigration, focussing on simple distinguished coalescents, i.e such that when a coagulation occurs all the blocks involved merge as a single block. These processes are characterized by two finite measures on [0,1] denoted by M=(Λ_{0},Λ_{1}). We call them M-coalescents. We show by martingale arguments that the condition of coming down from infinity for the M-coalescent coincides with that obtained by Schweinsberg for the Λ-coalescent. In the same vein as Bertoin and Le Gall, M-coalescents are associated with some stochastic flows. The superprocess embedded can be viewed as a generalized Fleming-Viot process with immigration. The measures Λ_{0} and Λ_{1} specify respectively the reproduction and the immigration. The coming down from infinity of the M-coalescent will be interpreted as the initial types extinction: after a certain time, all individuals are immigrant children.
