Direct determination of oxygen abundances in line emitting star-forming galaxies at intermediate redshift

We present a sample of 22 blue ((B−V)AB<0.45(B-V)_{AB}<0.45), luminous (MB,AB<−18.9M_{B,AB}<-18.9), metal-poor galaxies in the 0.69<z<0.880.69<z<0.88 redshift range, selected from the DEEP2 galaxy redshift survey. Their spectra contain the [OIII]λ4363[OIII]\lambda4363 auroral line, the [OII]λλ3726,3729[OII]λ\lambda3726,3729 doublet and the strong nebular [OIII]λλ4959,5007[OIII]λλ4959,5007 emission lines. The ionised gas-phase oxygen abundances of these galaxies lie between 7.62<12+log⁡O/H<8.197.62<12+\log O/H < 8.19, i.e. between 1/10Z⊙1/10 Z_{\odot} and 1/3Z⊙1/3 Z_{\odot}. We find that galaxies in our sample have comparable metallicities to other intermediate-redshift samples, but are more metal poor than local systems of similar B-band luminosities and star formation activity. The galaxies here show similar properties to the "green peas" discovered at z≃0.2−0.3z\simeq 0.2 - 0.3 though our galaxies tend to be slightly less luminous.

Star Formation and AGN activity in Galaxies classified using the 1.6 μm Bump and PAH features at z=0.4−2z = 0.4-2

We have studied the star-formation and AGN activity of massive galaxies in the redshift range z=0.4−2z=0.4-2, which are detected in a deep survey field using the AKARI InfraRed (IR) astronomical satellite and {\em Subaru} telescope toward the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP). The AKARI/IRC Mid-InfraRed (MIR) multiband photometry is used to trace their star-forming activities with the Polycyclic-Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) emissions, which is also used to distinguish star-forming populations from AGN dominated ones and to estimate the Star Formation Rate (SFR) derived from their total emitting IR (TIR) luminosities. In combination with analyses of their stellar components, we have studied the MIR SED features of star-forming and AGN-harboring galaxies.
