A multi-dimensional version of Lamperti's relation and the Matsumoto-Yor opposite drift theorem

A classic result on the 1-dimensional Brownian motion shows that conditionally on its first hitting time of 0, it has the distribution of a 3-dimensional Bessel bridge. By applying a certain time-change to this result, Matsumoto and Yor showed a theorem giving a relation between Brownian motions with opposite drifts. The relevant time change is the one appearing in Lamperti's relation. Sabot and Zeng showed that a family of Brownian motions with interacting drifts, conditioned on the vector of hitting times of 0, also has the distribution of independent 3-dimensional Bessel bridges. Moreover, the distribution of these hitting times is related to a random potential that appears in the study of the vertex-reinforced jump process. The aim of this paper is to prove a multivariate version of the Matsumoto-Yor opposite drift theorem, by applying a Lamperti-type time change to the previous family of interacting Brownian motions. Difficulties arise since the time change progresses at different speeds on different coordinates.

Random walks in random hypergeometric environment

We consider one-dependent random walks on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ in random hypergeometric environment for $d\ge 3$. These are memory-one walks in a large class of environments parameterized by positive weights on directed edges and on pairs of directed edges which includes the class of Dirichlet environments as a special case. We show that the walk is a.s. transient for any choice of the parameters, and moreover that the return time has some finite positive moment. We then give a characterization for the existence of an invariant measure for the process from the point of view of the walker which is absolutely continuous with respect to the initial distribution on the environment in terms of a function $κ$ of the initial weights. These results generalize [Sab11] and [Sab13] on random walks in Dirichlet environment. It turns out that $κ$ coincides with the corresponding parameter in the Dirichlet case, and so in particular the existence of such invariant measures is independent of the weights on pairs of directed edges, and determined solely by the weights on directed edges.

Fine mesh limit of the VRJP in dimension one and Bass-Burdzy flow

We introduce a continuous space limit of the Vertex Reinforced Jump Process (VRJP) in dimension one, which we call Linearly Reinforced Motion (LRM) on $\R$. It is constructed out of a convergent Bass-Burdzy flow. The proof goes through the representation of the VRJP as a mixture of Markov jump processes. As a by-product this gives a representation in terms of a mixture of diffusions of the LRM and of the Bass-Burdzy flow itself. We also show that our continuous space limit can be obtained out of the Edge Reinforced Random Walk (ERRW), since the ERRW and the VRJP are known to be closely related. Compared to the discrete space processes, the LRM has an additional symmetry in the initial local times (initial occupation profile): changing them amounts to a deterministic change of the space and time scales.

Inverting the coupling of the signed Gausssian free field with a loop soup

Lupu introduced a coupling between a random walk loop-soup and a Gaussian free field, where the sign of the field is constant on each cluster of loops. This coupling is a signed version of isomorphism theorems relating the square of the GFF to the occupation field of Markovian trajectories. His construction starts with a loop-soup, and by adding additional randomness samples a GFF out of it. In this article we provide the inverse construction: starting from a signed free field and using a self-interacting random walk related to this field, we construct a random walk loop-soup. Our construction relies on the previous work by Sabot and Tarrès, which inverts the coupling from the square of the GFF rather than the signed GFF itself. As a consequence, we also deduce an inversion of the coupling between the random current and the FK-Ising random cluster models introduced by Lupu and Werner.

Random walks in Dirichlet environment: an overview

Random Walks in Dirichlet Environment (RWDE) correspond to Random Walks in Random Environment (RWRE) on $\Bbb{Z}^d$ where the transition probabilities are i.i.d. at each site with a Dirichlet distribution. Hence, the model is parametrized by a family of positive weights $(α_i)_{i=1, \ldots, 2d}$, one for each direction of $\Bbb{Z}^d$. In this case, the annealed law is that of a reinforced random walk, with linear reinforcement on directed edges. RWDE have a remarkable property of statistical invariance by time reversal from which can be inferred several properties that are still inaccessible for general environments, such as the equivalence of static and dynamic points of view and a description of the directionally transient and ballistic regimes. In this paper we give a state of the art on this model and several sketches of proofs presenting the core of the arguments. We also present new computation of the large deviation rate function for one dimensional RWDE.

Sharp ellipticity conditions for ballistic behavior of random walks in random environment

We sharpen ellipticity criteria for random walks in i.i.d. random environments introduced by Campos and Ram\'ırez which ensure ballistic behavior. Furthermore, we construct new examples of random environments for which the walk satisfies the polynomial ballisticity criteria of Berger, Drewitz and Ram\'ırez. As a corollary, we can exhibit a new range of values for the parameters of Dirichlet random environments in dimension $d=2$ under which the corresponding random walk is ballistic.

The Vertex Reinforced Jump Process and a Random Schrödinger operator on finite graphs

We introduce a new exponential family of probability distributions, which can be viewed as a multivariate generalization of the Inverse Gaussian distribution. Considered as the potential of a random Schrödinger operator, this exponential family is related to the random field that gives the mixing measure of the Vertex Reinforced Jump Process (VRJP), and hence to the mixing measure of the Edge Reinforced Random Walk (ERRW), the so-called magic formula. In particular, it yields by direct computation the value of the normalizing constants of these mixing measures, which solves a question raised by Diaconis. The results of this paper are instrumental in [Sabot-Zeng,2015], where several properties of the VRJP and the ERRW are proved, in particular a functional central limit theorem in transient regimes, and recurrence of the 2-dimensional ERRW.

Inverting Ray-Knight identity

We provide a short proof of the Ray-Knight second generalized Theorem, using a martingale which can be seen (on the positive quadrant) as the Radon-Nikodym derivative of the reversed vertex-reinforced jump process measure with respect to the Markov jump process with the same conductances. Next we show that a variant of this process provides an inversion of that Ray-Knight identity. We give a similar result for the Ray-Knight first generalized Theorem.

A Quenched Functional Central Limit Theorem for Random Walks in Random Environments under $(T)_γ$

We prove a quenched central limit theorem for random walks in i.i.d. weakly elliptic random environments in the ballistic regime. Such theorems have been proved recently by Rassoul-Agha and Seppäläinen in [10] and Berger and Zeitouni in [2] under the assumption of large finite moments for the regeneration time. In this paper, with the extra $(T)_γ$ condition of Sznitman we reduce the moment condition to ${\Bbb E}(τ^2(\ln τ)^{1+m})<+\infty$ for $m>1+1/γ$, which allows the inclusion of new non-uniformly elliptic examples such as Dirichlet random environments.

Transience of Edge-Reinforced Random Walk

We show transience of the edge-reinforced random walk (ERRW) for small reinforcement in dimension d greater than 2. This proves the existence of a phase transition between recurrent and transient behavior, thus solving an open problem stated by Diaconis in 1986. The argument adapts the proof of quasi-diffusive behavior of the SuSy hyperbolic model for fixed conductances by Disertori, Spencer and Zirnbauer [CMP 2010], using the representation of ERRW as a mixture of vertex-reinforced jump processes (VRJP) with independent gamma conductances, and the interpretation of the limit law of VRJP as a supersymmetric (SuSy) hyperbolic sigma model developed by Sabot and Tarrès in [JEMS 2014].

Central Limit Theorems for Open Quantum Random Walks and Quantum Measurement Records

Open Quantum Random Walks, as developed in \cite{APSS}, are a quantum generalization of Markov chains on finite graphs or on lattices. These random walks are typically quantum in their behavior, step by step, but they seem to show up a rather classical asymptotic behavior, as opposed to the quantum random walks usually considered in Quantum Information Theory (such as the well-known Hadamard random walk). Typically, in the case of Open Quantum Random Walks on lattices, their distribution seems to always converge to a Gaussian distribution or a mixture of Gaussian distributions. In the case of nearest neighbors homogeneous Open Quantum Random Walks on $\ZZ^d$ we prove such a Central Limit Theorem, in the case where only one Gaussian distribution appears in the limit. Through the quantum trajectory point of view on quantum master equations, we transform the problem into studying a certain functional of a Markov chain on $\ZZ^d$ times the Banach space of quantum states. The main difficulty is that we know nothing about the invariant measures of this Markov chain, even their existence. Surprisingly enough, we are able to produce a Central Limit Theorem with explicit drift and explicit covariance matrix. The interesting point which appears with our construction and result is that it applies actually to a wider setup: it provides a Central Limit Theorem for the sequence of recordings of the quantum trajectories associated to any completely positive map. This is what we show and develop as an application of our result. In a second step we are able to extend our Central Limit Theorem to the case of several asymptotic Gaussians, in the case where the operator coefficients of the quantum walk are block-diagonal in a common basis.

Edge-reinforced random walk, Vertex-Reinforced Jump Process and the supersymmetric hyperbolic sigma model

Edge-reinforced random walk (ERRW), introduced by Coppersmith and Diaconis in 1986, is a random process, which takes values in the vertex set of a graph $G$, and is more likely to cross edges it has visited before. We show that it can be represented in terms of a Vertex-reinforced jump process (VRJP) with independent gamma conductances: the VRJP was conceived by Werner and first studied by Davis and Volkov (2002,2004), and is a continuous-time process favouring sites with more local time. We calculate, for any finite graph $G$, the limiting measure of the centred occupation time measure of VRJP, and interpret it as a supersymmetric hyperbolic sigma model in quantum field theory, introduced by Zirnbauer (1991). This enables us to deduce that VRJP and ERRW are positive recurrent in any dimension for large reinforcement, and that VRJP is transient in dimension greater than or equal to 3 for small reinforcement, using results of Disertori and Spencer (2010), Disertori, Spencer and Zirnbauer (2010).

Quenched limits for the fluctuations of transient random walks in random environment on Z

We consider transient nearest-neighbor random walks in random environment on Z. For a set of environments whose probability is converging to 1 as time goes to infinity, we describe the fluctuations of the hitting time of a level n, around its mean, in terms of an explicit function of the environment. Moreover, their limiting law is described using a Poisson point process whose intensity is computed. This result can be considered as the quenched analog of the classical result of Kesten, Kozlov and Spitzer [Compositio Math. 30 (1975) 145-168].

Random Dirichlet environment viewed from the particle in dimension $d\ge 3$

We consider random walks in random Dirichlet environment (RWDE) which is a special type of random walks in random environment where the exit probabilities at each site are i.i.d. Dirichlet random variables. On ${\mathbb Z}^d$, RWDE are parameterized by a 2d-uplet of positive reals called weights. In this paper, we characterize for $d\ge 3$ the weights for which there exists an absolutely continuous invariant probability for the process viewed from the particle. We can deduce from this result and from [27] a complete description of the ballistic regime for $d\ge 3$.

Random walks in random Dirichlet environment are transient in dimension $d\ge 3$

We consider random walks in random Dirichlet environment (RWDE) which is a special type of random walks in random environment where the exit probabilities at each site are i.i.d. Dirichlet random variables. On $\Z^d$, RWDE are parameterized by a $2d$-uplet of positive reals. We prove that for all values of the parameters, RWDE are transient in dimension $d\ge 3$. We also prove that the Green function has some finite moments and we characterize the finite moments. Our result is more general and applies for example to finitely generated symmetric transient Cayley graphs. In terms of reinforced random walks it implies that directed edge reinforced random walks are transient for $d\ge 3$.

Stable fluctuations for ballistic random walks in random environment on Z

We consider transient random walks in random environment on Z in the positive speed (ballistic) and critical zero speed regimes. A classical result of Kesten, Kozlov and Spitzer proves that the hitting time of level $n$, after proper centering and normalization, converges to a completely asymmetric stable distribution, but does not describe its scale parameter. Following a previous article by three of the authors, where the (non-critical) zero speed case was dealt with, we give a new proof of this result in the subdiffusive case that provides a complete description of the limit law. The case of Dirichlet environment turns out to be remarkably explicit.
