A short guide to pure point diffraction in cut-and-project sets

We briefly review the diffraction of quasicrystals and then give an elementary alternative proof of the diffraction formula for regular cut-and-project sets, which is based on Bochner's theorem from Fourier analysis. This clarifies a common view that the diffraction of a quasicrystal is determined by the diffraction of its underlying lattice. To illustrate our approach, we will also treat a number of well-known explicitly solvable examples.

Dynamical properties of almost repetitive Delone sets

We consider the collection of uniformly discrete point sets in Euclidean space equipped with the vague topology. For a point set in this collection, we characterise minimality of an associated dynamical system by almost repetitivity of the point set. We also provide linear versions of almost repetitivity which lead to uniquely ergodic systems. Apart from linearly repetitive point sets, examples are given by periodic point sets with almost periodic modulations, and by point sets derived from primitive substitution tilings of finite local complexity with respect to the Euclidean group with dense tile orientations.

Limit distributions and scaling functions

We discuss the asymptotic behaviour of models of lattice polygons, mainly on the square lattice. In particular, we focus on limiting area laws in the uniform perimeter ensemble where, for fixed perimeter, each polygon of a given area occurs with the same probability. We relate limit distributions to the scaling behaviour of the associated perimeter and area generating functions, thereby providing a geometric interpretation of scaling functions. To a major extent, this article is a pedagogic review of known results.

Integrable Lattice Realizations of N=1 Superconformal Boundary Conditions

We construct integrable boundary conditions for sl(2) coset models with central charges c=3/2-12/(m(m+2)) and m=3,4,... The associated cylinder partition functions are generating functions for the branching functions but these boundary conditions manifestly break the superconformal symmetry. We show that there are additional integrable boundary conditions, satisfying the boundary Yang-Baxter equation, which respect the superconformal symmetry and lead to generating functions for the superconformal characters in both Ramond and Neveu-Schwarz sectors. We also present general formulas for the cylinder partition functions. This involves an alternative derivation of the superconformal Verlinde formula recently proposed by Nepomechie.
