The operator product expansion converges in massless $φ_4^4$-theory

It has been shown recently that the mathematical status of the operator product expansion (OPE) is better than was expected before: namely considering massive Euclidean $φ^4$-theory in the perturbative loop expansion, the OPE converges at any loop order when considering (as is usually done) composite operator insertions into correlation functions. In the present paper we prove the same result for the massless theory. While the short-distance properties of massive and massless theories may be expected to be similar on physical grounds, the proof in the massless case requires entirely new techniques. In our inductive construction we have to control with sufficient precision the exceptional momentum singularities of the massless correlation functions. In fact the bounds we state are expressed in terms of weight factors associated to certain tree graphs. Our proof is again based on the flow equations of the renormalisation group.

Regularized path integrals and anomalies -- U(1) chiral gauge theory

We analyse the origin of the Adler anomaly of chiral U(1) gauge theory within the framework of regularized path integrals. Momentum or position space regulators allow for mathematically well-defined path integrals but violate local gauge symmetry. It is known how (nonanomalous) gauge symmetry can be recovered in the renormalized theory in this case [1]. Here we analyse U(1) chiral gauge theory to show how the appearance of anomalies manifests itself in such a context. We show that the three-photon amplitude leads to a violation of the Slavnov-Taylor-Identities which cannot be restored on taking the UV limit in the renormalized theory. We point out that this fact is related to the nonanalyticity of this amplitude in the infrared region.

The operator product expansion converges in perturbative field theory

We show, within the framework of the Euclidean $ϕ^4$-quantum field theory in four dimensions, that the Wilson operator product expansion (OPE) is not only an asymptotic expansion at short distances as previously believed, but even converges at arbitrary finite distances. Our proof rests on a detailed estimation of the remainder term in the OPE, of an arbitrary product of composite fields, inserted as usual into a correlation function with further "spectator fields". The estimates are obtained using a suitably adapted version of the method of renormalization group flow equations. Convergence follows because the remainder is seen to become arbitrarily small as the OPE is carried out to sufficiently high order, i.e. to operators of sufficiently high dimension. Our results hold for arbitrary, but finite, loop orders. As an interesting side-result of our estimates, we can also prove that the "gradient expansion" of the effective action is convergent.

On the local Borel transform of Perturbation Theory

We prove existence of the local Borel transform for the perturbative series of massive $\vp_4^4$-theory. As compared to previous proofs in the literature, the present bounds are much sharper as regards the dependence on external momenta, they are explicit in the number of external legs, and they are obtained quite simply through a judiciously chosen induction hypothesis applied to the Wegner-Wilson-Polchinski flow equations. We pay attention not to generate an astronomically large numerical constant for the inverse radius of convergence of the Borel transform.

Renormalization of Spontaneaously Broken SU(2) Yang-Mills Theory with Flow Equations

We present a renormalizability proof for spontaneously broken SU(2) gauge theory based on Flow Equations. It is a conceptually and technically simplified version of the earlier paper [KM] including some extensions. The proof of [KM] also was incomplete since an important assumption made implicitly in the proof of Lemma 2 there is not verified. So the present paper is also a corrected version of [KM].

Large Momentum bounds from Flow Equations

We analyse the large momentum behaviour of 4-dimensional massive euclidean Phi-4-theory using the flow equations of Wilson's renormalization group. The flow equations give access to a simple inductive proof of perturbative renormalizability. By sharpening the induction hypothesis we prove new and, as it seems, close to optimal bounds on the large momentum behaviour of the correlation functions. The bounds are related to what is generally called Weinberg's theorem.
