Charm-quark production in deep-inelastic neutrino scattering at NNLO in QCD

We present a fully differential next-to-next-to-leading order calculation of charm quark production in charged-current deep-inelastic scattering, with full charm-quark mass dependence. The next-to-next-to-leading order corrections in perturbative quantum chromodynamics are found to be comparable in size to the next-to-leading order corrections in certain kinematic regions. We compare our predictions with data on dimuon production in (anti-)neutrino scattering from a heavy nucleus. Our results can be used to improve the extraction of the parton distribution function of a strange quark in the nucleon.

Diphoton and Dark Matter from Cascade Decay

We propose a simplified model to study the possible new heavy diphoton resonance from cascade decay of a heavier particle at colliders, which may be related to the dark matter or other new physics beyond the standard model. Model-independent constraints and predictions on the allowed couplings for generating the observed diphoton data are studied in detail. We demonstrate that this scenario can be tested by the possible four-photon signal or the $WW/ZZ/Zγ$ resonances. Meanwhile, this cascade decay scenario also provides us with the dark matter candidates, which is consistent with the observed dark matter relic density.

Signature of the $γ$+jet and dijet production mediated by an excited quark with QCD next-to-leading order accuracy at the LHC

We present a detailed study of the production and decay of the excited quark at the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) level at the Large Hadron Collider, using the narrow width approximation and helicity amplitudes method. We find that the QCD NLO corrections can tighten the constraints on the model parameters and reduce the scale dependencies of the total cross sections. We discuss the signals of the excited quark production with decay mode $q^{\ast}\rightarrow qγ$ and $q^{\ast}\rightarrow qg$, and present several important kinematic distributions. Moreover, we give the upper limits of the excited quark excluded mass range and the allowed parameter space for the coupling constants and the excited quark mass.

Constraints on Randall-Sundrum model from the events of dijet production with QCD next-to-leading order accuracy at the LHC

We study the dijet production in Randall-Sundrum model at the LHC with QCD next-to-leading(NLO) order accuracy. Our results show that the QCD NLO corrections can increase the total cross sections by more than $80\%$ and reduce the scale dependence. We also explore in detail several important kinematic distributions at the NLO level. Moreover, we discuss the upper limits of the KK graviton excluded mass range and the allowed parameter space for the coupling constant and KK graviton mass, using the experiment data.

Electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory

We study the electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory. Our study shows that by introducing a light singlet scalar particle and a dimension-5 operator, it can provide the strong first order phase transition and the source of the CP-violation during the phase transition, and then produce abundant particle phenomenology at zero temperature. We also show the constraints on the new physics scale from the observed baryon-to-photon ratio, the low-energy experiments, and the LHC data.

Resummation prediction on gauge boson pair production with a jet veto

We investigate the resummation effects with a jet veto, for WZ and ZZ productions at the LHC in soft-collinear effective theory. We present the invariant mass distributions and the total cross section with different jet veto and jet radius for these process at Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Logarithmic level. Our results show that the jet-veto resummation can increase the jet-veto cross section and decrease the scale uncertainties, especially in the large center-of-mass energy. We find that for pt_veto>30 GeV and R=0.4, the resummation results can increase POWHEG+PYTHIA predictions by about 19% for WZ production and 18% for ZZ production, respectively. Our results agree with the CMS data for WZ productions within 2$σ$ C.L. at 8 TeV, which can explain the 2$σ$ discrepancy between the CMS experimental results and theoretical predictions based on NLO calculation with parton showers.

Resummation prediction on the jet mass spectrum in one-jet inclusive production at the LHC

We study the factorization and resummation prediction on the jet mass spectrum in one-jet inclusive production at the LHC based on soft-collinear effective theory. The soft function with anti-$k_T$ algorithm is calculated at next-to-leading order and its validity is demonstrated by checking the agreement between the expanded leading singular terms with the exact fixed-order result. The large logarithms $\ln^{n} (m_J^2/p_T^2)$ and the global logarithms $\ln^{n} (s_4/p_T^2)$ in the process are resummed to all order at next-to-leading logarithmic and next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic level, respectively. The cross section is enhanced by about 23% from the next-to-leading logarithmic level to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic level. Comparing our resummation predictions with those from Monte Carlo tool PYTHIA and ATLAS data at the 7 TeV LHC, we find that the peak positions of the jet mass spectra agree with those from PYTHIA at parton level, and the predictions of the jet mass spectra with non-perturbative effects are in coincidence with the ATLAS data. We also show the predictions at the future 13 TeV LHC.

Soft gluon resummation in the signal-background interference process of $gg(\to h^*) \to ZZ$

We present a precise theoretical prediction for the signal-background interference process of $gg(\to h^*) \to ZZ$, which is useful to constrain the Higgs boson decay width and to measure Higgs couplings to the SM particles. The approximate NNLO $K$-factor is in the range of $2.05-2.45$ ($1.85-2.25$), depending on $M_{ZZ}$, at the 8 (13) TeV LHC. And the soft gluon resummation can increase the approximate NNLO result by about $10\%$ at both the 8 TeV and 13 TeV LHC. The theoretical uncertainties including the scale, uncalculated multi-loop amplitudes of the background and PDF$+α_s$ are roughly $\mathcal{O}(10\%)$ at ${\rm NNLL'}$. We also confirm that the approximate $K$-factors in the interference and the pure signal processes are the same.

NLO QCD corrections to dijet production via quark contact interactions

We present the exact next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to dijet production at the LHC via quark contact interactions, with different color and chiral structures induced from new physics. Following the recent analysis of quark compositeness search at the LHC, we find that the NLO QCD corrections can lower the dijet cross sections by several tens percent, depending on the theory parameters and the selected kinematic regions, and reduce the dependence of the cross sections on factorization and renormalization scales. We also calculate the renormalization group (RG) improved NLO cross sections by summing over the large logarithms from the RG running of Wilson coefficients. Moreover, we investigate the NLO QCD effects on various experimental observables and exclusion limits of quark compositeness scale.

Phenomenology of an Extended Higgs Portal Inflation Model after Planck 2013

We consider an extended inflation model in the frame of Higgs portal model, assuming a nonminimal coupling of the scalar field to the gravity. Using the new data from Planck $2013$ and other relevant astrophysical data, we obtain the relation between the nonminimal coupling $ξ$ and the self-coupling $λ$ needed to drive the inflation, and find that this inflationary model is favored by the astrophysical data. Furthermore, we discuss the constraints on the model parameters from the experiments of particle physics, especially the recent Higgs data at the LHC.

Renormalization group improved predictions for $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ production at hadron colliders

We study the factorization and resummation of the $t\bar{t}W^\pm$ production at hadron colliders. The cross section in the threshold limit can be factorized into a convolution of hard and soft functions and parton distribution functions with the soft-collinear effective theory. We calculate the next-to-leading order soft function for the associated production of the heavy quark pair and colorless particle, and we perform the resummation calculation with the next-to-next-to-leading logarithms accuracy. Our results show that the resummation effects reduce the dependence of the cross section on the scales significantly and increase the total cross section by $7-13\%$ compared with NLO QCD results.

Renormalization-group improved predictions for Higgs boson production at large $p_T$

We study the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic order resummation for the large $p_T$ Higgs boson production at the LHC in the framework of soft-collinear effective theory. We find that the resummation effects reduce the scale uncertainty significantly and decrease the QCD NLO results by about $11\%$ in the large $p_T$ region. The finite top quark mass effects and the effects of the NNLO singular terms are also discussed.

Resummation Prediction on Higgs and Vector Boson Associated Production with a Jet Veto at the LHC

We investigate the resummation effects for the SM Higgs and vector boson associated production at the LHC with a jet veto in soft-collinear effective theory using "collinear anomalous" formalism. We calculate the jet vetoed invariant mass distribution and the cross section for this process at Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Logarithmic level, which are matched to the QCD Next-to-Leading Order results, and compare the differences of the resummation effects with different jet veto $p_{T}^{\rm veto}$ and jet radius $R$. Our results show that both resummation enhancement effects and the scale uncertainties decrease with the increasing of jet veto $p_{T}^{\rm veto}$ and jet radius $R$, respectively. When $p_{T}^{\rm veto}=25$ GeV and $R=0.4~(0.5)$, the resummation effects reduce the scale uncertainties of the Next-to-Leading Order jet vetoed cross sections to about $7\%~(6\%)$, which lead to increased confidence on the theoretical predictions. Besides, after including resummation effects, the PDF uncertainties of jet vetoed cross section are about $7\%$.

Some recent theoretical progress in Higgs boson and top quark physics at hadron colliders

The test of the Standard Model and search for New Physics signal are main aim of LHC experiment. With the increasing of the measurement accuracy at the LHC, it is a major task in future to exceed the current accuracy of the theoretical predictions for important processes, in particular ones involving Higgs boson and top quark. In this review we briefly summarize some recent theoretical progress in Higgs boson and top quark physics, especially the fixed-order and resummation predictions in QCD at both the Tevatron and the LHC.

Threshold resummation for the production of a color sextet (antitriplet) scalar at the LHC

We investigate threshold resummation effects in the production of a color sextet (antitriplet) scalar at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) order at the LHC in the frame of soft-collinear effective theory. We show the total cross section and the rapidity distribution with NLO+NNLL accuracy, and we compare them with the NLO results. Besides, we use recent dijet data at the LHC to give the constraints on the couplings between the colored scalars and quarks.

Threshold Resummation for WZ and ZZ Pair Production at the LHC

We perform the threshold resummation for WZ and ZZ pair production at the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory at the LHC. Our results show that the resummation effects increase the total cross sections by about 7% for ZZ production and 12% for WZ production with$\sqrt{S}= 7,~8,~13 and 14 TeV, respectively, and the scale uncertainties are significantly reduced. Besides, our numerical results are well consistent with experimental data reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations.

Transverse momentum resummation for color sextet and antitriplet scalar production at the LHC

We study the factorization and resummation of the transverse momentum spectrum of the color sextet and antitriplet scalars produced at the LHC based on soft-collinear effective theory. Compared to Z boson and Higgs production, a soft function is required to account for the soft gluon emission from the final-state colored scalar. The soft function is calculated at the next-to-leading order, and the resummation is performed at the approximate next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. The non-perturbative effects and PDF uncertainties are also discussed.

Resummation prediction on top quark transverse momentum distribution at large pT

We study the factorization and resummation of t-channel top quark transverse momentum distribution at large pT in the SM at both the Tevatron and the LHC with soft-collinear effective theory. The cross section in the threshold region can be factorized into a convolution of hard, jet and soft functions. In particular, we first calculate the NLO soft functions for this process, and give a RG improved cross section by evolving the different functions to a common scale. Our results show that the resummation effects increase the NLO results by about 9%-13% and 4%-9% when the top quark pT is larger than 50 and 70 GeV at the Tevatron and the 8 TeV LHC, respectively. Also, we discuss the scale independence of the cross section analytically, and show how to choose the proper scales at which the perturbative expansion can converge fast.

Searching for the signal of dark matter and photon associated production at the LHC beyond leading order

We study the signal of dark matter and photon associated production induced by the vector and axial-vector operators at the LHC, including the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) effects. We find that the QCD NLO corrections reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the factorization and renormalization scales, and the $K$ factors increase with the increasing of the dark matter mass, which can be as large as about 1.3 for both the vector and axial-vector operators. Using our QCD NLO results, we improve the constraints on the new physics scale from the results of the recent CMS experiment. Moreover, we show the Monte Carlo simulation results for detecting the $γ+\Slash{E}_{T}$ signal at the QCD NLO level, and present the integrated luminosity needed for a $5σ$ discovery at the 14 TeV LHC . If the signal is not observed, the lower limit on the new physics scale can be set.

Threshold resummation effects in Higgs boson pair production at the LHC

We investigate the resummation effects in the Standard Model Higgs boson pair production through gluon-gluon fusion at the LHC with soft-collinear effective theory. We calculate the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution at Next-to-Next-to-Leading-Logarithmic level with $π^2$-enhanced terms resummed, which are matched to the QCD Next-to-Leading Order results. In the high order QCD predictions exact top quark mass effects are included in full form factors. Our results show that the resummation effects increase the Next-to-Leading Order results by about $20% \sim 30%$, and the scale uncertainty is reduced to 8%, which lead to increased confidence on the theoretical predictions. The PDF+$\as$ uncertainties are almost not changed after including resummation effects. We also study the sensitivities of the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution to the Higgs boson self-coupling. We find that the total cross section and the invariant mass distribution shape depend strongly on the Higgs boson self-coupling, and therefore it is possible to extract Higgs boson self-coupling from the total cross section and invariant mass distribution when the measurement precision increases at the LHC.

Top quark pair production at small transverse momentum in hadronic collisions

We investigate the transverse momentum resummation for top quark pair production at hadron colliders using the soft-collinear effective theory and the heavy-quark effective theory. We derive the factorization formula for $t\bar{t}$ production at small pair transverse momentum, and show in detail the procedure for calculating the key ingredient of the factorization formula: the next-to-leading order soft functions. We compare our numerical results with experimental data and find that they are consistent within theoretical and experimental uncertainties. To verify the correctness of our resummation formula, we expand it to the next-to-leading order and the next-to-next-to-leading order, and compare those expressions with the exact fixed-order results numerically. Finally, using the results of transverse momentum resummation, we discuss the transverse-momentum-dependent forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron.

Top-Quark Decay at Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order in QCD

We present the complete calculation of the top-quark decay width at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD, including next-to-leading electroweak corrections as well as finite bottom quark mass and $W$ boson width effects. In particular, we also show the first results of the fully differential decay rates for top-quark semileptonic decay $t\to W^+(l^+ν)b$ at next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. Our method is based on the understanding of the invariant mass distribution of the final-state jet in the singular limit from effective field theory. Our result can be used to study arbitrary infrared-safe observables of top-quark decay with the highest perturbative accuracy.

Transverse-Momentum Resummation for Gauge Boson Pair Production at the Hadron Collider

We perform the transverse-momentum resummation for $W^{+}W^{-}$, $ZZ$, and $W^{\pm}Z$ pair productions at the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy using soft-collinear effective theory for $\sqrt{S}=8 \text{TeV}$ and $\sqrt{S}=14 \text{TeV}$ at the LHC, respectively. Especially, this is the first calculation of $W^{\pm}Z$ transverse-momentum resummation. We also include the non-perturbative effects and discussions on the PDF uncertainties. Comparing with the next-to-leading logarithmic results, the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic resummation can reduce the dependence of the transverse-momentum distribution on the factorization scales significantly. Finally, we find that our numerical results are consistent with data measured by CMS collaboration for the $ZZ$ production, which have been only reported by the LHC experiments for the unfolded transverse-momentum distribution of the gauge boson pair production so far, within theoretical and experimental uncertainties.

Transverse-momentum resummation for top-quark pairs at hadron colliders

We develop a framework for a systematic resummation of the transverse momentum distribution of top-quark pairs produced at hadron colliders based on effective field theory. Compared to Drell-Yan and Higgs production, a novel soft function matrix is required to account for the soft gluon emissions from the final states. We calculate this soft function at the next-to-leading order, and perform the resummation at the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We compare our results with parton shower programs and with the experimental data at the Tevatron and the LHC. We also discuss the implications for the top quark charge asymmetry.

Constraints on flavor-changing neutral-current $Htq$ couplings from the signal of $tH$ associated production with QCD next-to-leading order accuracy at the LHC

We study a generic Higgs boson and a top quark associated production via model-independent flavor-changing neutral-current couplings at the LHC, including complete QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections to the production and decay of the top quark and the Higgs boson. We find that QCD NLO corrections can increase the total production cross sections by about 48.9% and 57.9% for the $Htu$ and $Htc$ coupling induced processes at the LHC, respectively. After kinematic cuts are imposed on the decay products of the top quark and the Higgs boson, the QCD NLO corrections are reduced to 11% for the $Htu$ coupling induced process and almost vanish for the $Htc$ coupling induced process. Moreover, QCD NLO corrections reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the renormalization and factorization scales. We also discuss signals of the $tH$ associated production with the decay mode $t \rightarrow bl^{+}E \slash_{T}, H \rightarrow b\bar{b}$ and $t\bar{t}$ production with the decay mode $\bar{t} \rightarrow H\bar{q}, t\rightarrow bl^{+}E \slash_{T}$. Our results show that, in some parameter regions, the LHC may observe the above signals at the $5σ$ level. Otherwise, the upper limits on the FCNC $Htq$ couplings can be set.

Improved resummation prediction on Higgs boson production at hadron colliders

We improve the resummation calculations in the ResBos program for the Higgs boson production via gluon-gluon fusion by including the NNLO Wilson coefficient functions and G-functions. The improvement leads to increasing the total cross section predictions of the new ResBos program, dubbed as ResBos2, for Higgs boson production by about 8% and 6% at the Tevatron and the LHC, respectively, as compared to the old ResBos program. Furthermore, the improved predictions are compared with those from the programs HNNLO and HqT2. We find that they agree well for the total cross sections but differ slightly for the transverse momentum $Q_T$ distributions. With ResBos2, we present the distributions of the two variables $a_T$ and $ϕ^{*}$, which can have better experimental resolutions than $Q_T$, for the process of Higgs boson decaying into a photon pair. Theoretical uncertainties of the ResBos2 predictions are also discussed.

Precise QCD predictions on top quark pair production mediated by massive color octet vector boson at hadron colliders

We present a theoretical framework for systematically calculating next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD effects to various experimental observables in models with massive COVB in a model independent way at hadron colliders. Specifically, we show the numerical results for the NLO QCD corrections to total cross sections, invariant mass distribution and AFB of top quark pairs production mediated by a massive COVB in both the fixed scale (top quark mass) scheme and the dynamical scale (top pair invariant mass) scheme. Our results show that the NLO QCD calculations in the dynamical scale scheme is more reasonable than the fixed scheme and the naive estimate of the NLO effects by simple rescaling of the LO results with the SM NLO K-factor is not appropriate.

Search for the signal of monotop production at the early LHC

We investigate the potential of the early LHC to discover the signal of monotops, which can be decay products of some resonances in models such as R-parity violating SUSY or SU(5), etc. We show how to constrain the parameter space of the models by the present data of $Z$ boson hadronic decay branching ratio, $K^0-\bar{K^0}$ mixing and dijet productions at the LHC. Then, we study the various cuts imposed on the events, reconstructed from the hadronic final states, to suppress backgrounds and increase the significance in detail. And we find that in the hadronic mode the information from the missing transverse energy and reconstructed resonance mass distributions can be used to specify the masses of the resonance and the missing particle. Finally, we study the sensitivities to the parameters at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV and an integrated luminosity of $1 {\rm fb}^{-1}$ in detail. Our results show that the early LHC may detect this signal at 5$σ$ level for some regions of the parameter space allowed by the current data.

Signature of same-sign top pair production mediated by a nonuniversal $Z^\prime$ with QCD next-to-leading accuracy at the LHC

We present a detailed study of the same-sign top pair production mediated by a non-universal $Z^\prime$ including production and decay at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the QCD next-to-leading order (NLO) level, using the narrow width approximation and helicity amplitudes method. We find that the QCD NLO corrections can loose the constraint on the model parameters and reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the factorization scale significantly. We also study the signature and backgrounds of the process at the NLO level. In order to suppress the backgrounds, we further investigate the difference between the production rates of the positively and negatively charged dilepton at the LHC, and find that the same-sign dilepton signal of the new physics could be discovered more easily.

Effective Dark Matter Model: Relic density, CDMS II, Fermi LAT and LHC

The Cryogenic Dark Matter Search recently announced the observation of two signal events with a 77% confidence level. Although statistically inconclusive, it is nevertheless suggestive. In this work we present a model-independent analysis on the implication of a positive signal in dark matter scattering off nuclei. Assuming the interaction between (scalar, fermion or vector) dark matter and the standard model induced by unknown new physics at the scale $Λ$, we examine various dimension-6 tree-level induced operators and constrain them using the current experimental data, e.g. the WMAP data of the relic abundance, CDMS II direct detection of the spin-independent scattering, and indirect detection data (Fermi LAT cosmic gamma-ray), etc. Finally, the LHC reach is also explored.

Factorization and resummation of s-channel single top quark production

In this paper we study the factorization and resummation of s-channel single top quark production in the Standard Model at both the Tevatron and the LHC. We show that the production cross section in the threshold limit can be factorized into a convolution of hard function, soft function and jet function via soft-collinear-effective-theory (SCET), and resummation can be performed using renormalization group equation in the momentum space resummation formalism. We find that in general, the resummation effects enhance the Next-to-Leading-Order (NLO) cross sections by about $3%-5%$ at both the Tevatron and the LHC, and significantly reduce the factorization scale dependence of the total cross section at the Tevatron, while at the LHC we find that the factorization scale dependence has not been improved, compared with the NLO results.

Higgs Boson Production via Gluon Fusion in the Standard Model with four Generations

Higgs bosons can be produced copiously at the LHC via gluon fusion induced by top and bottom quark loops, and can be enhanced strongly if extra heavy quarks exist. We present results for Higgs +zero-, one- and two-jet production at the LHC, in both the Standard Model and the 4th generation model, by evaluating the corresponding heavy quark triangle, box and pentagon Feynman diagrams. We compare the results by using the effective Higgs-gluon interactions in the limit of heavy quarks with the cross sections including the full mass dependences. NLO effects with full mass dependence are included in the inclusive Higgs boson production rate. Our results improve the theoretical basis for fourth generation effects on the Higgs boson search at the LHC.

Model independent analysis of top quark forward-backward asymmetry at the Tevatron up to $\mathcal{O}(\as^2/Λ^2)$

We present the complete calculations of the forward-backward asymmetry ($A_{\rm FB}$) and the total cross section of top quark pair production induced by dimension-six four quark operators at the Tevatron up to $\mathcal{O}(\as^2/Λ^2)$. Our results show that next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections can change $A_{\rm FB}$ and the total cross section by about 10%. Moreover, NLO QCD corrections reduce the dependence of $A_{\rm FB}$ and total cross section on the renormalization and factorization scales significantly. We also evaluate the total cross section and the charge asymmetry ($A_{\rm C}$) induced by these operators at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) up to $\mathcal{O}(\as^2/Λ^2)$, for the parameter space allowed by the Tevatron data. We find that the value of $A_{\rm C}$ induced by these operators is much larger than SM prediction, and LHC has potential to discover these NP effects when the measurement precision increases.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to $tZ$ associated production via the flavor-changing neutral-current couplings at hadron colliders

We present the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to $tZ$ associated production induced by the model-independent $tqg$ and $tqZ$ flavor-changing neutral-current couplings at hadron colliders, respectively. Our results show that, for the $tuZ$ coupling the NLO QCD corrections can enhance the total cross sections by about 60% and 42%, and for the $tcZ$ coupling by about 51% and 43% at the Tevatron and LHC, respectively. The NLO corrections, for the $tug$ couplings, can enhance the total cross sections by about 27%, and by about 42% for the $tcg$ coupling at the LHC. We also consider the mixing effects between the $tqg$ and $tqZ$ couplings for this process, which can either be large or small depending on the values of the anomalous couplings. Besides, the NLO corrections reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the renormalization or factorization scale significantly, which lead to increased confidence on the theoretical predictions. And we also evaluate the NLO corrections to several important kinematic distributions.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the top quark associated with $γ$ production via model-independent flavor-changing neutral-current couplings at hadron colliders

We present the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the top quark associated with $γ$ production induced by model-independent $tqγ$ and $tqg$ flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) couplings at hadron colliders, respectively. We also consider the mixing effects between the $tqγ$ and $tqg$ FCNC couplings for this process. Our results show that, for the $tqγ$ couplings, the NLO QCD corrections can enhance the total cross sections by about 50% and 40% at the Tevatron and LHC, respectively. Including the contributions from the $tqγ$, $tqg$ FCNC couplings and their mixing effects, the NLO QCD corrections can enhance the total cross sections by about 50% for the $tuγ$ and $tug$ FCNC couplings, and by about the 80% for the $tcγ$ and $tcg$ FCNC couplings at the LHC, respectively. Moreover, the NLO corrections reduce the dependence of the total cross section on the renormalization and factorization scale significantly. We also evaluate the NLO corrections for several important kinematic distributions.

Next-to-leading order QCD effect of $W'$ on top quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry

We present the calculations of the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the total cross section, invariant mass distribution and the forward-backward asymmetry ($\rm A_{FB}$) of top quark pair production mediated by $W'$ boson. Our results show that in the best fit point in the parameter space allowed by data at the Tevatron, the NLO corrections change the new physics contributions to the total cross section slightly, but increase the $\rm A_{FB}$ in the large invariant mass region by about 9%. Moreover, we evaluate the total cross section and charge asymmetry ($\rm{A}_{\rm{C}}$) of top pair production at the LHC, and find that both total cross section and $A_{\rm C}$ can be used to distinguish NP from SM with the integrated luminosity increasing.

Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for $A^{0}γ$ associated production at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We calculate the complete next-to-leading-order (NLO) QCD corrections (including SUSY QCD corrections) to the inclusive total cross sections of the associated production processes $pp\rightarrow A^{0}γ+X$ in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Our results show that the enhancement of the total cross sections from the NLO QCD corrections can reach $15%\sim20%$ for 200 GeV$<m_{A}<500$ GeV and $\tanβ=50$. The scale dependence of the total cross section is improved by the NLO corrections, which is less than 5%. We also show the Monte Carlo simulation results for the $τ^{+}τ^{-}+γ$ signature including the complete NLO QCD effects, and find an observable signature above the standard model (SM) background for a normal luminosity of 100 fb$^{-1}$ at the LHC.

Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for the signal of Dark Matter and photon associated production at the LHC

We study the potential of LHC to discovery the signal of Dark Matter with photon associated production induced by a dimension six effective operator, including NLO QCD corrections. We investigate the main backgrounds from SM, i.e. $Z$ boson and a photon associated production with invisible dacay of $Z$ boson, and $Z$ boson and a jet production with the jet misidentified as a photon. We find that the $p_T^γ$ distributions of the backgrounds decrease faster than that of the signal with increasing of the transverse momentum of the photon. The $η^γ$ distributions of the backgrounds are almost flat in the full range of $η^γ$. In contrast, the signal lies mainly in the central region of $η^γ$. These characteristics may help to select the events in experiments. We show that in the parameter space allowed by the relic abundance constraint, which we have calculated at the NLO QCD level, the LHC with $\sqrt{S}=7{\rm TeV}$ may discovery this signal at the $5σ$ level after collecting an integrated luminosity of $1 {\rm fb}^{-1}$. On the other hand, if this signal is not observed at the LHC, we can set a lower limit on the new physics scale at the $3σ$ level.

Next-to-leading QCD effect to the quark compositeness search at the LHC

Recently, the CMS and ATLAS Collaborations at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) have set exclusion limits on the quark compositeness scale by comparing their data to the leading order and the scaled next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculations, respectively. In this Letter, we present the exact NLO QCD corrections to the dijet production induced by the quark contact interactions. We show that as compared to the exact calculation, the scaled NLO QCD prediction adopted by the ATLAS Collaboration has overestimated the new physics effect on some direct observables by more than 30% and renders a higher limit on the quark compositeness scale. The destructive contribution from the exact NLO correction will also lower the compositeness scale limit set by the CMS Collaboration.

One-loop Helicity Amplitudes for Top Quark Pair Production in Randall-Sundrum Model

In this paper, we show how to calculate analytically the one-loop helicity amplitudes for the process $q\bar{q} rightarrow t\bar{t}$ induced by KK gluon, using the spinor-helicity formalism. A minimal set of Feynman rules which are uniquely fixed by gauge invariance and the color representation of the KK gluon are derived and used in the calculation. Our results can be applied to a variety of models containing a massive color octet vector boson.

Search for anomalous top quark production at the early LHC

We present a detailed study of the anomalous top quark production with subsequent decay at the LHC induced by model-independent flavor-changing neutral-current couplings, incorporating the complete next-to-leading order QCD effects. Our results show that, taking into account the current limits from the Tevatron, the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV may discover the anomalous coupling at 5$σ$ level for a very low integrated luminosity of 61 pb$^{-1}$. The discovery potentials for the anomalous couplings at the LHC are examined in detail. We also discuss the possibility of using the charge ratio to distinguish the $tug$ and $tcg$ couplings.

Top Quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry and Same-Sign Top Quark Pairs

The top quark forward-backward asymmetry measured at the Tevatron collider shows a large deviation from standard model expectations. Among possible interpretations, a non-universal $Z^\prime$ model is of particular interest as it naturally predicts a top quark in the forward region of large rapidity. To reproduce the size of the asymmetry, the couplings of the $Z^\prime$ to standard model quarks must be large, inevitably leading to copious production of same-sign top quark pairs at the energies of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We explore the discovery potential for $tt$ and $ttj$ production in early LHC experiments at 7-8 TeV and conclude that if {\it no} $tt$ signal is observed with 1 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, then a non-universal $Z^\prime$ alone cannot explain the Tevatron forward-backward asymmetry.

Factorization and resummation of t-channel single top quark production

We investigate the factorization and resummation of t-channel single top (antitop) quark production in the SM at both the Tevatron and the LHC in SCET. We find that the resummation effects decrease the NLO cross sections by about 3% at the Tevatron and about 2% at the LHC. And the resummation effects significantly reduce the factorization scale dependence of the total cross section. The transfer momentum cut dependence and other matching scale dependencies are also discussed. We also show that when our numerical results for s- and t-channel single top production at the Tevatron are combined, it is closer to the experimental result than the one reported in previous literatures.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to a heavy resonance production and decay into top quark pair at the LHC

We present a complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculation to a heavy resonance production and decay into a top quark pair at the LHC, where the resonance could be either a Randall-Sundrum (RS) Kaluza-Klein (KK) graviton $G$ or an extra gauge boson $Z'$. The complete NLO QCD corrections can enhance the total cross sections by about $80\%- 100\%$ and $20\%- 40\%$ for the $G$ and the $Z'$, respectively, depending on the resonance mass. We also explore in detail the NLO corrections to the polar angle distributions of the top quark, and our results show that the shapes of the NLO distributions can be different from the leading order (LO) ones for the KK graviton. Moreover, we study the NLO corrections to the spin correlations of the top quark pair production via the above process, and find that the corrections are small.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the top quark decay via the Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current operators with mixing effects

In this paper detailed calculations of the complete $\mathcal{O}(α_s)$ corrections to top quark decay widths $Γ(t\to q+V)$ are presented ($V=g,γ,Z$). Besides describing in detail the calculations in our previous paper (arXiv:0810.3889), we also include the mixing effects of the Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current (FCNC) operators for $t\to q+γ$ and $t\to q+Z$, which were not considered in our previous paper. The results for $t\to q+g$ are the same as in our previous paper. But the mixing effects can either be large or small, and increase or decrease the branching ratios for $t\to q+γ$ and $t\to q+Z$, depending on the values of the anomalous couplings ($κ^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}/Λ$, $f^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}$ and $h^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}$).

Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for graviton and photon associated production in the Large Extra Dimensions model at the LHC

We present the calculations of the complete next-to-leading order(NLO) QCD corrections to the inclusive total cross sections for the Kaluza-Klein(KK) graviton and photon associated production process $pp \to γG_{KK} + X$ in the large extra dimensions(LED) model at the LHC. We show that the NLO QCD corrections in general enhance the total cross sections and reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the factorization and renormalization scales. When jet veto is considered, the NLO corrections reduce the total cross sections. We also calculate some important differential cross sections for this process at NLO: the missing transverse momentum distribution, the transverse momentum distribution and the pseudorapidity distribution of photon.

A Dark Matter Model with Non-Abelian Gauge Symmetry

We propose a dark matter model in which the dark sector is gauged under a new SU(2) group. The dark sector consists of SU(2) dark gauge fields, two triplet dark Higgs fields, and two dark fermion doublets (dark matter candidates in this model). The dark sector interacts with the SM sector through kinetic and mass mixing operators. The model explains both PAMELA and Fermi LAT data very well and also satisfies constraints from both the DM relic density and Standard Model precision observables. The phenomenology of the model at the LHC is also explored.

Threshold Resummation Effects in Neutral Higgs Boson Production by Bottom Quark Fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider

We investigate the QCD effects in the production of neutral Higgs bosons via bottom quark fusion in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We include the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections (including supersymmetric QCD) and the threshold resummation effects. We use the soft-collinear effective theory to resum the large logarithms near threshold from soft gluon emission. Our results show that the resummation effects can enhance the total cross sections by about 5% compared with the NLO results.

Effects of R-parity violation in unpolarized top quark decay into polarized W-boson

We calculate one-loop R-parity violating corrections to the top quark decay into a bottom quark and a polarized W-gauge boson. The corrections are presented according to the total corrections, the longitudinal corrections and the transverse corrections, respectively. We compared our results with the ${\cal O}(α_s)$ QCD corrections, the ${\cal O}(α)$ electroweak (EW) and finite width corrections, and also the supersymmetric (SUSY) corrections with R-parity conservation, respectively.

Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for associated production of top squarks and charginos at the CERN LHC

We present the calculations of the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) inclusive total cross sections for the associated production processes $pp\to \tilde{t}_i\tildeχ_k^-+X$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Our calculations show that the total cross sections for the $\tilde{t}_1\tildeχ_1^-$ production for the lighter top squark masses in the region 100 GeV $< m_{\tilde{t}_1}<$ 160 GeV can reach 1 pb in the favorable parameter space allowed by the current precise experiments, and in other cases the total cross sections generally vary from 10 fb to several hundred fb except both $m_{\tilde{t}_1}>$ 500 GeV and the $\tilde{t}_2\tildeχ_2^-$ production channel. Moreover, we find that the NLO QCD corrections in general enhance the leading order total cross sections significantly, and vastly reduce the dependence of the total cross sections on the renormalization/factorization scale, which leads to increased confidence in predictions based on these results.

Supersymmetric Electroweak Corrections to Sbottom Decay into Lighter Stop and Charged Higgs Boson

The Yukawa corrections of order ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^2/m_W^2)$, ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^3/m_W^3)$ and ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^4/m_W^4)$ to the width of sbottom decay into lighter stop plus charged Higgs boson are calculated in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. These corrections depend on the masses of charged Higgs boson and lighter stop, and the parameters $\tanβ$ and $μ$. For favorable parameter values, the corrections decrease or increase the decay widths significantly. Especially for high values of $\tanβ$(=30) the corrections exceed at least 10% for both $\tilde b_1$ and $\tilde b_2$ decay. But for low values of $\tanβ$(=4,10) the corrections are small and the magnitudes are less than 10%. The numerical calculations also show that using the running bottom quark mass which includes the QCD effects and resums all high order $\tanβ$-enhanced effects can improve much the convergence of the perturbation expansion.

Charmless hadronic decays $B \to PP, PV, VV$ and new physics effects in the general two-Higgs doublet models

Based on the low-energy effective Hamiltonian with the generalized factorization, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching ratios of the two-body charmless hadronic decays of $B_u$ and $B_d$ mesons induced by the new gluonic and electroweak charged-Higgs penguin diagrams in the general two-Higgs doublet models (models I, II and III). Within the considered parameter space, we find that: (a) the new physics effects from new gluonic penguin diagrams strongly dominate over those from the new $γ$- and $Z^0$- penguin diagrams; (b) in models I and II, new physics contributions to most studied B meson decay channels are rather small in size: from -15% to 20%; (c) in model III, however, the new physics enhancements to the penguin-dominated decay modes can be significant, $\sim (30 -200)%$, and therefore are measurable in forthcoming high precision B experiments; (d) the new physics enhancements to ratios ${\cal B}(B \to K \etap)$ are significant in model III, $\sim (35 -70)%$, and hence provide a simple and plausible new physics interpretation for the observed unexpectedly large $B \to K \etap $ decay rates; (e) the theoretical predictions for ${\cal B}(B \to K^+ π)$ and ${\cal B}(B \to K^0 π^+)$ in model III are still consistent with the data within $2σ$ errors; (f) the significant new physics enhancements to the branching ratios of $B \to K^0 π^0, K^* η, K^{*+} π^-, K^+ ϕ, K^{*0} ω, K^{*+} ϕ$ and $K^{*0} ϕ$ decays are helpful to improve the agreement between the data and the theoretical predictions; (g) the theoretical predictions of ${\cal B}(B \to PP, PV, VV)$ in the 2HDM's are generally consistent with experimental measurements and upper limits ($90% C.L.$)

Electroweak Corrections to the Deacy $H^+\to W^+h$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model

We calculate the $O(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^{2}/m_{W}^{2})$ and $O(α_{ew} m_{t(b)}^4/m_W^4)$ supersymmetric electroweak corrections to the process $H^+\to W^+h$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Model. These corrections arise from the virtual effects of the third family quaurks (top and bottom) and squarks (top-squark and bottom-squark). We find that for $m_{H^+}>200$GeV at low $\tanβ(\leq 3)$, the corrections can increase the tree-level decay widths and the branching radios more than 20% and 40%, respectively.

Gluon penguin enhancements to inclusive charmless decays of b quark in the 2HDM with flavor changing couplings

We calculate the enhancements to the inclusive charmless decays of b quark, $b \to s g, s q\bar{q}, sgg$, from gluon penguin diagrams induced by the charged and neutral Higgs bosons $(H^{\pm}, h^0, H^0$, and A^0) in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model with flavor-changing couplings. Within the considered parameter space, the new contributions from charged Higgs boson are dominant. After including the new contributions, the branching ratio $BR(b \to sg)$ (q^2 =0) can be increased form $\sim 0.2%$ in the standard model to 4.4% and 2.6% in the two-Higgs-doublet model for $m_{H^+}=100$ and 200 GeV, respectively. The new contribution to the decay mode $b \to s q \bar{q}$ with q=(u,d,s) is, however, numerically small and peaked at the lower q^2 region. The new contribution to $b \to s gg$ can also be neglected.

O(α_s) QCD Corrections to Spin Correlations in $e^- e^+ \to t \bar t$ process at the NLC

Using a Generic spin basis, we present a general formalism of one-loop radiative corrections to the spin correlations in the top quark pair production at the Next Linear Collider, and calculate the O(α_s) QCD corrections under the soft gluon approximation. We find that: (a) in Off-diagonal basis, the $O(α_s)$ QCD corrections to $e_L^- e^+$ ($e_R^- e^+$) scattering process increase the differential cross sections of the dominant spin component $t_{\uparrow}\bar{t}_{\downarrow}$ ($t_{\downarrow}\bar{t}_{\uparrow}$) by $\sim 30%$ and $\sim (0.1%-3%)$ depending on the scattering angle for $\sqrt{s}=400 GeV$ and 1 TeV, respectively; (b) in {Off-diagonal basis} (Helicity basis), the dominant spin component makes up 99.8% ($\sim 53%$) of the total cross section at both tree and one-loop level for $\sqrt{s}=400 GeV$, and the Off-diagonal basis therefore remains to be the optimal spin basis after the inclusion of $O(α_s)$ QCD corrections.

Leading Electroweak Corrections to the Neutral Higgs Boson Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We calculate the leading electroweak corrections to the light neutral Higgs boson production via $q\bar q'\to WH$ at the Fermilab Tevatron in both the standard model and the minimal supersymmetric model, which arise from the top-quark and Higgs boson loop diagrams. We found that the leading electroweak corrections can exceed the QCD corrections for favorable values of the parameters in the MSSM, but such corrections are only about $-1% \sim -2%$ in the SM, which are much smaller than the QCD corrections. For the mass region of $90 < m_{h_0} < 120$ GeV, the leading electroweak corrections can reach -10% for large $\tanβ$, and these corrections may be observable at a high luminosity Tevatron; at the least, new constraints on the $\tanβ$ can be established.

Supersymmetric Electroweak Parity Nonconservation in Top Quark Pair Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We evaluate the supersymmetric (SUSY) electroweak corrections to the effect of parity nonconservation in $q {\bar q} \to t {\bar t}$ production at the Fermilab Tevatron predicted by the Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM). We find that the parity nonconserving asymmetry from the SUSY electroweak and SUSY Yukawa loop corrections predicted by the minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) model and the MSSM models with scenarios motivated by current data is about one percent. It will be challenging to observe such a small asymmetry at the Tevatron with 10 fb^{-1} of luminosity. It could however be observable if both the top- and bottom-squarks are light and $\tan β$ is smaller than 1, though theses parameters are not favored by mSUGRA.

Supersymmetric QCD Corrections to Single Top Quark Production at the Fermilab Tevatron

We evaluate the supersymmetric QCD corrections to single top quark production via $q \bar q'\to t \bar b$ at the Fermilab Tevatron in the minimal supersymmetric model. We find that within the allowed range of squark and gluino masses the supersymmetric QCD corrections can enhance the cross section by a few percent. The combined effects of SUSY QCD, SUSY EW, and the Yukawa couplings can exceed 10% for the smallest allowed $\tanβ~ (\simeq 0.25)$ but are only a few percent for $\tanβ>1$.

Strong supersymmetric quantum effects on top quark production at the Fermilab Tevatron

The supersymmetric QCD corrections to top quark pair production by $q\bar q$ annihilation in $p\bar p$ collisions are calculated in the minimal supersymmetric model. We consider effects of the mixing of the scalar top quarks on the corrections to the total $t\bar t$ production cross section at the Fermilab Tevatron. We found that such correction is less sensitive to squark mass and gluino mass than in no-mixing case, and in both cases the corrections can exceed 10\% even if we consider the recent CDF limit on squark and gluino masses.

Top-squark mixing effects in the supersymmetric electroweak corrections to top quark production at the Tevatron

Taking into account the mixing effects between left- and right-handed top-squarks, we calculate the genuine supersymmetric eletroweak correction to top quark production at the Tevatron in the minimal supersymmetric model. The analytic expressions of the corrections to both the parton level cross section and the total hadronic cross section are presented. Some numerical examples are also given to show the size of the corrections.
