Investigating of Spherical Composite Accelerating Cavity for High Gradient Linacs

Maximum amplitudes of accelerating fields are restricted by electron breakdown and Joule heating losses in conducting walls in traditional accelerating structures. In this paper, we presented a resonant composite accelerating cavity, which utilizes a periodic structure with a dielectric sphere located at a spherical conducting cavity center. The presence of the dielectric sphere in the central part of the resonance cavity shifts the magnetic fields maximum from regions close to the metallic wall to the dielectric surface, which strongly lowers the skin effect losses in the wall. By using the existing ultra-low loss Sapphire dielectrics, we made theoretical analyze and numerical calculations by MATLAB, and further make simulated calculation by CST for comparison. The results show that all field components at the metallic wall are either zero or very small, and therefore one can expect the cavity to be less prone to electrical breakdowns than the traditional cavity. Furthermore, the quality factor Q can be three orders of magnitude higher than that obtained in existing cylindrical cavities.

Research on a new active power filter topology based on chopper circuit

The active power filter (APF) is attracting more and more attention for its outstanding performance in current and voltage ripple compensation. As modern high-energy accelerators are demanding much more stringent current ripple guideline, the APF is introduced to the magnet power supply (MPS) in accelerator system. However, the conventional APF has a lot of shortages and drawbacks due to its traditional topology, such as complex structure, nonadjustable working voltage, requirement of power supply, and so on. This paper proposes a new topology of APF, which is working as two types of chopper circuits. This APF need not extra electricity, but to use the power of the MPS current ripple to realize ripple depressing. At the end of this paper, the experiment result proves its feasibility and effect.

Application of Wavelet-based Active Power Filter in Accelerator Magnet Power Supply

As modern accelerators demand excellent stability to magnet power supply (PS), it is necessary to decrease harmonic currents passing magnets. Aim at depressing rappel current from PS in Beijing electron-positron collider II, a wavelet-based active power filter (APF) is proposed in this paper. APF is an effective device to improve the quality of currents. As a countermeasure to these harmonic currents, the APF circuit generates a harmonic current, countervailing harmonic current from PS. An active power filter based on wavelet transform is proposed in this paper. Discrete wavelet transform is used to analyze the harmonic components in supply current, and active power filter circuit works according to the analysis results. At end of this paper, the simulation and experiment results are given to prove the effect of the mentioned Active power filter.
