Affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties at infinite level

We initiate the study of affine Deligne-Lusztig varieties with arbitrarily deep level structure for general reductive groups over local fields. We prove that for GLn and its inner forms, Lusztig's semi-infinite Deligne-Lusztig construction is isomorphic to an affine Deligne-Lusztig variety at infinite level. We prove that their homology groups give geometric realizations of the local Langlands and Jacquet--Langlands correspondences in the setting that the Weil parameter is induced from a character of an unramified field extension. In particular, we resolve Lusztig's 1979 conjecture in this setting for minimal admissible characters.

The Drinfeld stratification for ${\rm GL}_n$

We define a stratification of Deligne--Lusztig varieties and their parahoric analogues which we call the Drinfeld stratification. In the setting of inner forms of GLn, we study the cohomology of these strata and give a complete description of the unique closed stratum. We state precise conjectures on the representation-theoretic behavior of the stratification. We expect this stratification to play a central role in the investigation of geometric constructions of representations of $p$-adic groups.

Period identities of CM forms on quaternion algebras

Waldspurger's formula gives an identity between the norm of a torus period and an L-function of the twist of an automorphic representation on GL(2). For any two Hecke characters of a fixed quadratic extension, one can consider the two torus periods coming from integrating one character against the automorphic induction of the other. Because the corresponding L-functions agree, (the norms of) these periods---which occur on different quaternion algebras---are closely related. In this paper, we give a direct proof of an explicit identity between the torus periods themselves.

Deligne--Lusztig constructions for division algebras and the local Langlands correspondence, II

In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups, analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we establish a new instance of Lusztig's program. Precisely, let $X$ be the $p$-adic Deligne-Lusztig ind-scheme associated to a division algebra $D$ of invariant k/n over a non-Archimedean local field $K$. We study its homology groups by establishing a Deligne-Lusztig theory for families of finite unipotent groups that arise as subquotients of $D^\times$. The homology of $X$ induces a natural correspondence between quasi-characters of the (multiplicative group of the) unramified degree-$n$ extension of $K$ and representations of $D^{\times}$. For a broad class of characters $θ,$ we show that the representation $H_\bullet(X)[θ]$ is irreducible and concentrated in a single degree. Moreover, we show that this correspondence matches the bijection given by local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands. As a corollary, we obtain a geometric realization of Jacquet-Langlands transfers between representations of division algebras.

Deligne-Lusztig Constructions for Division Algebras and the Local Langlands Correspondence

Let $K$ be a local non-Archimedean field of positive characteristic and let $L$ be the degree-$n$ unramified extension of $K$. Via the local Langlands and Jacquet-Langlands correspondences, to each sufficiently generic multiplicative character of $L$, one can associate an irreducible representation of the multiplicative group of the central division algebra $D$ of invariant $1/n$ over $K$. In 1979, Lusztig proposed a cohomological construction of supercuspidal representations of reductive $p$-adic groups analogous to Deligne-Lusztig theory for finite reductive groups. In this paper we prove that when $n=2$, the $p$-adic Deligne-Lusztig (ind-)scheme $X$ induces a correspondence between smooth one-dimensional representations of $L^\times$ and representations of $D^\times$ that matches the correspondence given by the LLC and JLC.
