A whittled complex for the Khovanov homology of torus links

We give an algorithm for reducing the number of generators of the Khovanov chain complex of the torus braid $ft^k_n = (σ_1σ_2\cdots σ_{n-1})^k$ on $n$ strands by applying Bar-Natan Gaussian elimination along a distinguished set of Gaussian elimination isomorphisms. We call the resulting complex $\mathcal{FT}^k_n$ a \emph{whittled complex} for the Khovanov homology of torus braids. Using this algorithm, we provide a bound for the number of generators at a fixed homological degree in our whittled complex.

The virtual singular twin monoid and group: presentations and representations

In this article, we introduce the algebraic definitions and presentations of the virtual singular twin monoid and virtual singular twin group, denoted by $VSTM_n$ and $VST_n$, respectively, for a positive integer $n$. These structures extend the twin group $T_n$ in close analogy to how the virtual singular braid monoid and virtual singular braid group extend the classical braid group. We then construct and study representations of the group $VST_n$, for $n \geq 3$, focusing in particular on extending the representations $η_1$ and $η_2$ of $T_n$, introduced by M. Nasser, to $VST_n$ via the $2$-local extension method. To analyze the resulting representations, $η_1'$ and $η_2'$, and their properties, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for irreducibility and show that both $η_1'$ and $η_2'$ are unfaithful. Additionally, we classify all complex homogeneous $2$-local representations of $VST_n$ for every integer $n\geq 3$, providing a foundation for further investigation into representations of $VST_n$.

On Khovanov Homology and Related Invariants

This paper begins with a survey of some applications of Khovanov homology to low-dimensional topology, with an eye toward extending these results to $\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ homologies. We extend Levine and Zemke's ribbon concordance obstruction from Khovanov homology to $\mathfrak{sl}(n)$ homology for $n \geq 2$, including the universal $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$ and $\mathfrak{sl}(3)$ homology theories. Inspired by Alishahi and Dowlin's bounds for the unknotting number coming from Khovanov homology and relying on spectral sequence arguments, we produce bounds on the alternation number of a knot. Lee and Bar-Natan spectral sequences also provide lower bounds on Turaev genus.

The L-move and Markov theorems for trivalent braids

The L-move for classical braids extends naturally to trivalent braids. We follow the L-move approach to the Markov Theorem, to prove a one-move Markov-type theorem for trivalent braids. We also reformulate this L-Move Markov theorem and prove a more algebraic Markov-type theorem for trivalent braids. Along the way, we provide a proof of the Alexander's theorem analogue for spatial trivalent graphs and trivalent braids.

Movie moves for singular link cobordisms in 4-dimensional space

Two singular links are cobordant if one can be obtained from the other by singular link isotopy together with a combination of births or deaths of simple unknotted curves, and saddle point transformations. A movie description of a singular link cobordism in 4-space is a sequence of singular link diagrams obtained from a projection of the cobordism into 3-space by taking 2-dimensional cross sections perpendicular to a fixed direction. We present a set of movie moves that are sufficient to connect any two movies of isotopic singular link cobordisms.

A cohomology theory for colored tangles

We employ the sl(2) foam cohomology to define a cohomology theory for oriented framed tangles whose components are labelled by irreducible representations of U_q(sl(2)). We show that the corresponding colored invariants of tangles can be assembled into invariants of bigger tangles. For the case of knots and links, the corresponding theory is a categorification of the colored Jones polynomial, and provides a tool for efficient computations of the resulting colored invariant of knots and links. Our theory is defined over the Gaussian integers Z[i] (and more generally over Z[i][a,h], where a,h are formal parameters), and enhances the existing categorifications of the colored Jones polynomial.

On a state model for the SO(2n) Kauffman polynomial

F. Jaeger presented the two-variable Kauffman polynomial of an unoriented link L as a weighted sum of HOMFLY-PT polynomials of oriented links associated with L. Murakami, Ohtsuki and Yamada (MOY) used planar graphs and a recursive evaluation of these graphs to construct a state model for the sl(n)-link invariant (a one-variable specialization of the HOMFLY-PT polynomial). We apply the MOY framework to Jaeger's work, and construct a state summation model for the SO(2n) Kauffman polynomial.

On the quantum filtration of the universal sl(2) foam cohomology

We investigate the filtered theory corresponding to the universal sl(2) foam cohomology $H_{a,h}$ for links, where a and h are complex numbers. We show that there is a spectral sequence converging to $H_{a,h}$ which is invariant under the Reidemeister moves, and whose E1 term is isomorphic to Khovanov homology. This spectral sequence can be used to obtain from the foam perspective an analogue of the Rasmussen invariant and a lower bound for the slice genus of a knot.

Twin TQFTs and Frobenius algebras

We introduce the category of singular 2-dimensional cobordisms and show that it admits a completely algebraic description as the free symmetric monoidal category on a twin Frobenius algebra, by providing a description of this category in terms of generators and relations. A twin Frobenius algebra (C, W, z, z^*) consists of a commutative Frobenius algebra C, a symmetric Frobenius algebra W, and an algebra homomorphism z: C - > W with dual z^*: W -> C, satisfying some extra conditions. We also introduce a generalized 2-dimensional Topological Quantum Field Theory defined on singular 2-dimensional cobordisms and show that it is equivalent to a twin Frobenius algebra in a symmetric monoidal category.
