The $L^\infty$-isodelaunay decomposition of strata of abelian differentials

We study the decomposition of a stratum $\mathcal H(κ)$ of abelian differentials into regions of differentials that share a common $L^\infty$-Delaunay triangulation. In particular, we classify the infinitely many adjacencies between these isodelaunay regions, a phenomenon whose observation is attributed to Filip in work of Frankel. This classification allows us to construct a finite simplicial complex with the same homotopy type as $\mathcal H(κ)$, and we outline a method for its computation. We also require a stronger equivariant version of the traditional Nerve Lemma than currently exists in the literature, which we prove.

Strongly Obtuse Rational Lattice Triangles

We classify rational triangles which unfold to Veech surfaces when the largest angle is at least $\frac{3π}{4}$. When the largest angle is greater than $\frac{2π}{3}$, we show that the unfolding is not Veech except possibly if it belongs to one of six infinite families. Our methods include a criterion of Mirzakhani and Wright that built on work of Möller and McMullen, and in most cases show that the orbit closure of the unfolding cannot have rank 1.

A unified approach to Fiedler-like pencils via strong block minimal bases pencils

The standard way of solving the polynomial eigenvalue problem associated with a matrix polynomial is to embed the matrix polynomial into a matrix pencil, transforming the problem into an equivalent generalized eigenvalue problem. Such pencils are known as linearizations. Many of the families of linearizations for matrix polynomials available in the literature are extensions of the so-called family of Fiedler pencils. These families are known as generalized Fiedler pencils, Fiedler pencils with repetition and generalized Fiedler pencils with repetition, or Fiedler-like pencils for simplicity. The goal of this work is to unify the Fiedler-like pencils approach with the more recent one based on strong block minimal bases pencils introduced in \cite{canonical}. To this end, we introduce a family of pencils that we have named extended block Kronecker pencils, whose members are, under some generic nonsingularity conditions, strong block minimal bases pencils, and show that, with the exception of the non proper generalized Fiedler pencils, all Fiedler-like pencils belong to this family modulo permutations. As a consequence of this result, we obtain a much simpler theory for Fiedler-like pencils than the one available so far. Moreover, we expect this unification to allow for further developments in the theory of Fiedler-like pencils such as global or local backward error analyses and eigenvalue conditioning analyses of polynomial eigenvalue problems solved via Fiedler-like linearizations.

Lower bound cluster algebras: presentations, Cohen-Macaulayness, and normality

We give an explicit presentation for each lower bound cluster algebra. Using this presentation, we show that each lower bound algebra Grobner degenerates to the Stanley-Reisner scheme of a vertex-decomposable ball or sphere, and is thus Cohen-Macaulay. Finally, we use Stanley-Reisner combinatorics and a result of Knutson-Lam-Speyer to show that all lower bound algebras are normal.
