Instantaneous shear modulus of Yukawa fluids across coupling regimes

The high frequency (instantaneous) shear modulus of three-dimensional Yukawa systems is evaluated in a wide parameter range, from the very weakly coupled gaseous state to the strongly coupled fluid at the crystallization point (Yukwa melt). This allows us to quantify how shear rigidity develops with increasing coupling and inter-particle correlations. The radial distribution functions (RDFs) needed to calculate the excess shear modulus have been obtained from extensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. MD results demonstrate that fluid RDFs appear quasi-universal on the curves parallel to the melting line of a Yukawa solid, in accordance with the isomorph theory of Roskilde-simple systems. This quasi-universality, allows to simplify considerably calculations of quantities involving integrals of the RDF (elastic moduli represent just one relevant example). The calculated reduced shear modulus grows linearly with the coupling parameter at weak coupling and approaches a quasi-constant asymptote at strong coupling. The asymptotic value at strong coupling is in reasonably good agreement with the existing theoretical approximation.

Two-body entropy of two-dimensional fluids

The two-body (pair) contribution to the entropy of two-dimensional Yukawa systems is calculated and analyzed. It is demonstrated that in the vicinity of the fluid-solid (freezing) phase transition the pair entropy exhibits an abrupt jump in a narrow temperature range and this can be used to identify the freezing point. Relations to the full excess entropy and some existing freezing indicators are briefly discussed.

On the long-waves dispersion in Yukawa systems

A useful simplification of the quasilocalizded charge approximations (QLCA) method to calculate the dispersion relations in strongly coupled Yukawa fluids is discussed. In this simplified version, a simplest possible model radial distribution function, properly related to the thermodynamic properties of the system, is used. The approach demonstrates good agreement with the dispersion relations obtained using the molecular dynamics simulations and the original QLCA in the long-wavelength regime.

Free Energy Distribution Function of a Random Ising ferromagnet

We study the free energy distribution function of weakly disordered Ising ferromagnet in terms of the D-dimensional random temperature Ginzburg-Landau Hamiltonian. It is shown that besides the usual Gaussian "body" this distribution function exhibits non-Gaussian tails both in the paramagnetic and in the ferromagnetic phases. Explicit asymptotic expressions for these tails are derived. It is demonstrated that the tails are strongly asymmetric: the left tail (for large negative values of the free energy) is much more slow than the right one (for large positive values of the free energy). It is argued that in the critical point the free energy of the random Ising ferromagnet in dimensions D<4 is described by a non-trivial universal distribution function being non self-averaging

Attempted Bethe ansatz solution for one-dimensional directed polymers in random media

We study the statistical properties of one-dimensional directed polymers in a short-range random potential by mapping the replicated problem to a many body quantum boson system with attractive interactions. We find the full set of eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the many-body system and perform the summation over the entire spectrum of excited states. The analytic continuation of the obtained exact expression for the replica partition function from integer to non-integer replica parameter N turns out to be ambiguous. Performing the analytic continuation simply by assuming that the parameter N can take arbitrary complex values, and going to the thermodynamic limit of the original directed polymer problem, we obtain the explicit universal expression for the probability distribution function of free energy fluctuations.
