Finite involutory quandles of two-bridge links with an axis

To better understand the fundamental quandle of a knot or link, it can be useful to look at finite quotients of the quandle. One such quotient is the $n$-quandle (or, when $n=2$, the {\em involutory} quandle). Hoste and Shanahan \cite{HS2} gave a complete list of the links which have finite $n$-quandles; it remained to give explicit descriptions of these quandles. This has been done for several cases in \cite{CHMS} and \cite{HS1}; in the current work we continue this project and explicitly describe the Cayley graphs for the finite involutory quandles of two-bridge links with an axis.

Graphs admitting only constant splines

We study {\em generalized graph splines,} introduced by Gilbert, Viel, and the last author. For a large class of rings, we characterize the graphs that only admit constant splines. To do this, we prove that if a graph has a particular type of cutset (e.g., a bridge), then the space of splines naturally decomposes as a certain direct sum of submodules. As an application, we use these results to describe splines on a triangulation studied by Zhou and Lai, but over a different ring than they used.

Counting Links and Knots in Complete Graphs

We investigate the minimal number of links and knots in complete partite graphs. We provide exact values or bounds on the minimal number of links for all complete partite graphs with all but 4 vertices in one partition, or with 9 vertices in total. In particular, we find that the minimal number of links for $K_{4,4,1}$ is 74. We also provide exact values or bounds on the minimal number of knots for all complete partite graphs with 8 vertices.

Intrinsic Linking and Knotting in Virtual Spatial Graphs

We introduce a notion of intrinsic linking and knotting for virtual spatial graphs. Our theory gives two filtrations of the set of all graphs, allowing us to measure, in a sense, how intrinsically linked or knotted a graph is; we show that these filtrations are descending and non-terminating. We also provide several examples of intrinsically virtually linked and knotted graphs. As a byproduct, we introduce the {\it virtual unknotting number} of a knot, and show that any knot with non-trivial Jones polynomial has virtual unknotting number at least 2.
