The holonomic triangle: from a symmetry between $e$ and $π$ to additive Gamma functions

Two linear recurrences exhibit mirror symmetry connecting the constants $e$ and $π$. When parametrized, their asymptotic connection constants extend to meromorphic functions satisfying additive functional equations with rational coefficients. We call such functions additive Gamma functions (AGFs), recognizing Euler's $Γ(z)$ as the order-1 prototype. Our theory reveals a structural dichotomy: one AGF is expressible as Gamma ratios (regular case), another involves incomplete Gamma (irregular case). AGFs complete a holonomic triangle between P-recursive sequences, additive functional equations, and differential equations, unifying discrete and continuous perspectives under the condition that Gamma factors in asymptotics have integer slopes.

Beyond odious and evil

In a recent post on the Seqfan list the third author proposed a conjecture concerning the summatory function of odious numbers (i.e., of numbers whose sum of binary digits is odd), and its analog for evil numbers (i.e., of numbers whose sum of binary digits is even). We prove these conjectures here. We will also study the sequences of "generalized" odious and evil numbers, and their iterations, giving in particular a characterization of the sequences of usual odious and evil numbers in terms of functional equations satisfied by their compositions.

10 conjectures in additive number theory

Following an idea of Rowland we give a conjectural way to generate increasing sequences of primes using algorithms involving the gcd. These algorithms seem not so useless for searching primes since it appears we found sometime primes much more greater than the number of required iterations. In an other hand we propose new formulations of famous conjectures from the additive theory of numbers (the weak twin prime conjecture, the Polignac conjecture, the Goldbach conjecture or the very general Schinzel's hypothesis H). For the moment these are experimental results obtained using pari-gp.

Numerical Analogues of Aronson's Sequence

Aronson's sequence 1, 4, 11, 16, ... is defined by the English sentence ``t is the first, fourth, eleventh, sixteenth, ... letter of this sentence.'' This paper introduces some numerical analogues, such as: a(n) is taken to be the smallest positive integer greater than a(n-1) which is consistent with the condition ``n is a member of the sequence if and only if a(n) is odd.'' This sequence can also be characterized by its ``square'', the sequence a^(2)(n) = a(a(n)), which equals 2n+3 for n >= 1. There are many generalizations of this sequence, some of which are new, while others throw new light on previously known sequences.
