Energy and Centrality dependence of $dN_{\rm ch}/dη$ and $dE_{\rm T}/dη$ in Heavy-Ion Collisions from $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ =7.7 GeV to 5.02 TeV

The centrality dependence of pseudorapidity density of charged particles and transverse energy is studied for a wide range of collision energies for heavy-ion collisions at midrapidity from 7.7 GeV to 5.02 TeV. A two-component model approach has been adopted to quantify the soft and hard components of particle production, coming from nucleon participants and binary nucleon-nucleon collisions, respectively. Within experimental uncertainties, the hard component contributing to the particle production has been found not to show any clear collision energy dependence from RHIC to LHC. The effect of centrality and collision energy in particle production seem to factor out with some degree of dependency on the collision species. The collision of Uranium-like deformed nuclei opens up new challenges in understanding the energy-centrality factorization, which is evident from the centrality dependence of transverse energy density, when compared to collision of symmetric nuclei.

Specific Heat of Matter Formed in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions

We report the excitation energy dependence of specific heat (\cv) of hadronic matter at freeze-out in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider energies by analyzing the published data on event-by-event mean transverse momentum (\meanpt) distributions. The \meanpt~distributions in finite \pt~ranges are converted to distributions of effective temperatures, and dynamical fluctuations in temperature are extracted by subtracting widths of the corresponding mixed event distributions. The heat capacity per particle at the kinetic freeze-out surface is presented as a function of collision energy, which shows a sharp rise in \cv~below \sNN~=~62.4~GeV. We employ the Hadron Resonance Gas (HRG) model to estimate \cv~at the chemical and kinetic freeze-out surfaces. The experimental results are compared to the HRG and other theoretical model calculations. HRG results show good agreement with data. Model predictions for \cv~at the Large Hadron Collider energy are presented.

Charged Particle and Photon Multiplicity, and Transverse Energy Production in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions

We review the charged particle and photon multiplicity, and transverse energy production in heavy-ion collisions starting from few GeV to TeV energies. The experimental results of pseudorapidity distribution of charged particles and photons at different collision energies and centralities are discussed. We also discuss the hypothesis of limiting fragmentation and expansion dynamics using the Landau hydrodynamics and the underlying physics. Meanwhile, we present the estimation of initial energy density multiplied with formation time as a function of different collision energies and centralities. In the end, the transverse energy per charged particle in connection with the chemical freeze-out criteria is discussed. We invoke various models and phenomenological arguments to interpret and characterize the fireball created in heavy-ion collisions. This review overall provides a scope to understand the heavy-ion collision data and a possible formation of a deconfined phase of partons via the global observables like charged particles, photons and the transverse energy measurement.

Maps of the Little Bangs Through Energy Density and Temperature Fluctuations

In this letter we propose for the first time to map the heavy-ion collisions at ultra-relativistic energies, similar to the maps of the cosmic microwave background radiation, using fluctuations of energy density and temperature in small phase space bins. We study the evolution of fluctuations at each stage of the collision using an event-by-event hydrodynamic framework. We demonstrate the feasibility of making fluctuation maps from experimental data and its usefulness in extracting considerable information regarding the early stages of the collision and its evolution.

Weibull model of Multiplicity Distribution in hadron-hadron collisions

We introduce the Weibull distribution as a simple parametrization of charged particle multiplicities in hadron-hadron collisions at all available energies, ranging from ISR energies to the most recent LHC energies. In statistics, the Weibull distribution has wide applicability in natural processes involving fragmentation processes. This gives a natural connection to the available state-of-the-art models for multi-particle production in hadron hadron collisions involving QCD parton fragmentation and hadronization.

Constituent Quark Scaling of Strangeness Enhancement in Heavy-Ion Collisions

In the frame work of a nuclear overlap model, we estimate the number of nucleon and quark participants in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions. We observe the number of nucleon ($N_{N-part}$)-normalized enhancement of multi-strange particles which show a monotonic increase with centrality, turns out to be a centrality independent scaling behavior when normalized to number of constituent quarks participating in the collision ($N_{q-part}$). In addition, we observe that the $N_{q-part}$-normalized enhancement, when further normalized to the strangeness content, shows a strangeness independent scaling behavior. This holds good at top RHIC energy. However, the corresponding SPS data show a weak $N_{q-part}$-scaling with strangeness scaling being violated at top SPS energy. This scaling at RHIC indicates that the partonic degrees of freedom playing an important role in the production of multi-strange particles. Top SPS energy, in view of the above observations, shows a co-existence of hadronic and partonic phases. We give a comparison of data with HIJING, AMPT and UrQMD models to understand the particle production dynamics at different energies.

Probing the QGP Phase Boundary with Thermal Properties of $ϕ$ Mesons

A novel attempt has been made to probe the QCD phase boundary by using the experimental data for transverse momenta of ϕ mesons produced in nuclear collisions at AGS, SPS and RHIC energies. The data are confronted with simple thermodynamic expectations and lattice QCD results. The experimental data indicate a first-order phase transition, with a mixed phase stretching the energy density between \sim1 and 3.2 GeV/fm3 corresponding to SPS energies.

The QCD Equation of State with Thermal Properties of $ϕ$ mesons

In this work a first attempt is made to extract the Equation of State (EoS) using experimental results of the $ϕ$ meson produced in nuclear collisions at AGS, SPS and RHIC energies. The data are confronted to simple thermodynamic expectations and lattice results. The experimental data indicate a first order phase transition, with a mixed phase stretching energy density between $\sim$ 1 and 3.2 GeV/$fm^3$.
