Nordhaus--Gaddum type inequalities for Laplacian and signless Laplacian eigenvalues

Let $G$ be a graph with $n$ vertices. We denote the largest signless Laplacian eigenvalue of $G$ by $q_1(G)$ and Laplacian eigenvalues of $G$ by $μ_1(G)\ge\cdots\geμ_{n-1}(G)\geμ_n(G)=0$. It is a conjecture on Laplacian spread of graphs that $μ_1(G)-μ_{n-1}(G)\le n-1$ or equivalently $μ_1(G)+μ_1(\Gb)\le2n-1$. We prove the conjecture for bipartite graphs. Also we show that for any bipartite graph $G$, $μ_1(G)μ_1(\Gb)\le n(n-1)$. Aouchiche and Hansen [A survey of Nordhaus--Gaddum type relations, Discrete Appl. Math. 161 (2013), 466--546] conjectured that %for any graph $G$ with $n$ vertices, $q_1(G)+q_1(\Gb)\le3n-4$ and $q_1(G)q_1(\Gb)\le2n(n-2)$. We prove the former and disprove the latter by constructing a family of graphs $H_n$ where $q_1(H_n)q_1(\ov{H_n})$ is about $2.15n^2+O(n)$.

On Order and Rank of Graphs

The rank of a graph is defined to be the rank of its adjacency matrix. A graph is called reduced if it has no isolated vertices and no two vertices with the same set of neighbors. Akbari, Cameron, and Khosrovshahi conjectured that the number of vertices of every reduced graph of rank r is at most $m(r)=2^{(r+2)/2}-2$ if r is even and $m(r) = 5\cdot2^{(r-3)/2}-2$ if r is odd. In this article, we prove that if the conjecture is not true, then there would be a counterexample of rank at most $46$. We also show that every reduced graph of rank r has at most $8m(r)+14$ vertices.

On a family of diamond-free strongly regular graphs

The existence of a partial quadrangle ${\mathsf{PQ}}(s, t, μ)$ is equivalent to the existence of a diamond-free strongly regular graph ${\mathsf{SRG}}(1+s(t+1)+s^2t(t+1)/μ, s(t+1), s-1, μ)$. Recently, it is shown that there exists a ${\mathsf{PQ}}(2, (n^3+3n^2-2)/2, n^2+n)$ if and only if $n\in\{1, 2, 4\}$. Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a ${\mathsf{PQ}}(3,(n+3)(n^2-1)/3, n^2+n)$ such that for every two non-collinear points $p_1$ and $p_2$, there is a point $q$ non-collinear with $p_1$, $p_2$, and all points collinear with both $p_1$ and $p_2$. In this article, we establish that $\mathcal{S}$ exists only for $n\in\{-2, 2, 3\}$ and probably $n=10$.
