On Quantized Lienard Oscillator and Momentum Dependent Mass

We examine the analytical structure of the nonlinear Lienard oscillator and show that it is a bi-Hamiltonian system depending upon the choice of the coupling parameters. While one has been recently studied in the context of a quantized momentum- dependent mass system, the other Hamiltonian also reflects a similar feature in the mass function and also depicts an isotonic character. We solve for such a Hamiltonian and give the complete solution in terms of a confluent hypergeometric function.

Rational extensions of the trigonometric Darboux-Pöschl-Teller potential based on para-Jacobi polynomials

The possibility for the Jacobi equation to admit in some cases general solutions that are polynomials has been recently highlighted by Calogero and Yi, who termed them para-Jacobi polynomials. Such polynomials are used here to build seed functions of a Darboux-Bäcklund transformation for the trigonometric Darboux-Pöschl-Teller potential. As a result, one-step regular rational extensions of the latter depending both on an integer index $n$ and on a continuously varying parameter $λ$ are constructed. For each $n$ value, the eigenstates of these extended potentials are associated with a novel family of $λ$-dependent polynomials, which are orthogonal on $\left] -1,1\right[ $.

A generalized non-Hermitian Pais-Uhlenbeck quantum Hamiltonian, its Hermitian equivalence and position-dependent mass correspondence

We explore the Jacobi Last Multiplier as a means for deriving the Lagrangian of a fourth-order differential equation. In particular we consider the classical problem of the Pais-Uhlenbeck oscillator and write down the accompanying Hamiltonian. We then compare such an expression with an alternative derivation of the Hamiltonian that makes use of the Ostrogradski's method and show that a mapping from the one to the other is achievable by variable transformations. Assuming canonical quantization procedure to be valid we go for the operator version of the Hamiltonian that represents a pair of uncoupled oscillators. This motivates us to propose a generalized Pais-Uhlenbeck Hamiltonian in terms of the usual harmonic oscillator creation and annihilation operators by including terms quadratic and linear in them. Such a Hamiltonian turns out to be essentially non-Hermitian but has an equivalent Hermitian representation which is reducible to a typically position-dependent reduced mass form.

CPT-conserved effective mass Hamiltonians through first and higher order charge operator C in a supersymmetric framework

This paper examines the features of a generalized position-dependent mass Hamiltonian in a supersymmetric framework in which the constraints of pseudo-Hermiticity and CPT are naturally embedded. Different representations of the charge operator are considered that lead to new mass-deformed superpotentials which are inherently PT-symmetric. The qualitative spectral behavior of the Hamiltonian is studied and several interesting consequences are noted.

Comment on `Supersymmetry, PT-symmetry and spectral bifurcation'

We demonstrate that the recent paper by Abhinav and Panigrahi entitled `Supersymmetry, PT-symmetry and spectral bifurcation' [Ann.\ Phys.\ 325 (2010) 1198], which considers two different types of superpotentials for the PT-symmetric complexified Scarf II potential, fails to take into account the invariance under the exchange of its coupling parameters. As a result, they miss the important point that for unbroken PT-symmetry this potential indeed has two series of real energy eigenvalues, to which one can associate two different superpotentials. This fact was first pointed out by the present authors during the study of complex potentials having a complex $sl(2)$ potential algebra.

An update on PT-symmetric complexified Scarf II potential, spectral singularities and some remarks on the rationally-extended supersymmetric partners

The $\cal PT$-symmetric complexified Scarf II potential $V(x)= - V_1 \sech^{2}x + {\rm i} V_2 \sech x \tanh x$, $V_1>0$ , $V_{2}\neq 0$ is revisited to study the interplay among its coupling parameters. The existence of an isolated real and positive energy level that has been recently identified as a spectral singularity or zero-width resonance is here demonstrated through the behaviour of the corresponding wavefunctions and some property of the associated pseudo-norms is pointed out. We also construct four different rationally-extended supersymmetric partners to $V(x)$, which are $\cal PT$-symmetric or complex non-$\cal PT$-symmetric according to the coupling parameters range. A detailed study of one of these partners reveals that SUSY preserves the $V(x)$ spectral singularity existence.

Supersymmetry Across Nanoscale Heterojunction

We argue that supersymmetric transformation could be applied across the heterojunction formed by joining of two mixed semiconductors. A general framework is described by specifying the structure of ladder operators at the junction for making quantitative estimation of physical quantities. For a particular heterojunction device, we show that an exponential grading inside a nanoscale doped layer is amenable to exact analytical treatment for a class of potentials distorted by the junctions through the solutions of transformed Morse-Type potentials.

Isospectrality of conventional and new extended potentials, second-order supersymmetry and role of PT symmetry

We develop a systematic approach to construct novel completely solvable rational potentials. Second-order supersymmetric quantum mechanics dictates the latter to be isospectral to some well-studied quantum systems. $\cal PT$ symmetry may facilitate reconciling our approach to the requirement that the rationally-extended potentials be singularity free. Some examples are shown.

PT-symmetric supersymmetry in a solvable short-range model

The simplest purely imaginary and piecewise constant $\cal PT$-symmetric potential located inside a larger box is studied. Unless its strength exceeds a certain critical value, all the spectrum of its bound states remains real and discrete. We interpret such a model as an initial element of the generalized non-Hermitian Witten's hierarchy of solvable Hamiltonians and construct its first supersymmetric (SUSY) partner in closed form.

Complexified PSUSY and SSUSY interpretations of some PT-symmetric Hamiltonians possessing two series of real energy eigenvalues

We analyze a set of three PT-symmetric complex potentials, namely harmonic oscillator, generalized Poschl-Teller and Scarf II, all of which reveal a double series of energy levels along with the corresponding superpotential. Inspired by the fact that two superpotentials reside naturally in order-two parasupersymmetry (PSUSY) and second-derivative supersymmetry (SSUSY) schemes, we complexify their frameworks to successfully account for the three potentials.

Orientational and Translational Hopping in Supercooled Liquids and Glasses : Correlated Dynamics in a Free Energy Landscape

Orientational relaxation (OR) in a viscous, glassy liquid is investigated by carrying out extensive NPT molecular dynamics simulations of isolated ellipsoids in a glass forming binary mixture. Near the glass transition, the OR occurs mainly via hopping involving either a ring- or a tunnel like motion, with the participation of several neighboring atoms. In the glassy state, hopping is found to be accompanied by larger fluctuations in the total energy and the volume of the system. Both orientational and translational hopping are found to be {\it gated}, restricted primarily by the entropic bottlenecks, with orientation becoming increasingly slower than translation as the pressure is increased. OR is heterogeneous, with a wide distribution of decay times.

Truncated Harmonic Osillator and Parasupersymmetric Quantum Mechanics

We discuss in detail the parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics of arbitrary order where the parasupersymmetry is between the normal bosons and those corresponding to the truncated harmonic oscillator. We show that even though the parasusy algebra is different from that of the usual parasusy quantum mechanics, still the consequences of the two are identical. We further show that the parasupersymmetric quantum mechanics of arbitrary order p can also be rewritten in terms of p supercharges (i.e. all of which obey $Q_i^{2} = 0$). However, the Hamiltonian cannot be expressed in a simple form in terms of the p supercharges except in a special case. A model of conformal parasupersymmetry is also discussed and it is shown that in this case, the p supercharges, the p conformal supercharges along with Hamiltonian H, conformal generator K and dilatation generator D form a closed algebra.
