Arithmetic positivity on toric varieties

We continue with our study of the arithmetic geometry of toric varieties. In this text, we study the positivity properties of metrized R-divisors in the toric setting. For a toric metrized R-divisor, we give formulae for its arithmetic volume and its chi-arithmetic volume, and we characterize when it is arithmetically ample, nef, big or pseudo-effective, in terms of combinatorial data. As an application, we prove a Dirichlet's unit theorem on toric varieties, we give a characterization for the existence of a Zariski decomposition of a toric metrized R-divisor, and we prove a toric arithmetic Fujita approximation theorem.

Arithmetic intersection theory over adelic curves

We establish an arithmetic intersection theory in the framework of Arakelov geometry over adelic curves. To each projective scheme over an adelic curve, we associate a multi-homogenous form on the group of adelic Cartier divisors, which can be written as an integral of local intersection numbers along the adelic curve. The integrability of the local intersection number is justified by using the theory of resultants.

Toward Fermat's conjecture over arithmetic function fields

Let K be an arithmetic function field, that is, a field of finite type over the rational number field. In this note, as an application of the height theory due to Chen-Moriwaki, we would like to show that the solutions of Fermat's curve X^N + y^N = 1 of degree N over K consist of only either 0 or roots of unity for almost positive integers N. More precisely, the density of such N is 1.

Algebraic dynamical systems and Dirichlet's unit theorem on arithmetic varieties

In this paper, we study obstructions to the Dirichlet property by two approaches: density of non-positive points and functionals on adelic R-divisors. Applied to the algebraic dynamical systems, these results provide examples of nef adelic arithmetic R-Cartier divisor which does not have the Dirichlet property. We hope the obstructions obtained in the article will give ways toward criteria of the Dirichlet property.

Big arithmetic divisors on the projective spaces over Z

This paper is an enhancement of the previous note "Explicit computations of Zariski decompositions on P_Z^1". In this paper, we observe several properties of a certain kind of an arithmetic divisor D on the n-dimensional projective space over Z and give the exact form of the Zariski decomposition of D on the projective line over Z. Further, we show that, if n>=2 and D is big and non-nef, then, for any birational morphism f: X --> P^n_Z of projective, generically smooth and normal arithmetic varieties, we can not expect a suitable Zariski decomposition of f^*(D). We also give a concrete construction of Fujita's approximation of D.

Estimation of arithmetic linear series

Lazarsfeld and Mustata propose general and systematic usage of Okounkov's idea in order to study asymptotic behavior of linear series on an algebraic variety. It is a very simple way, but it yields a lot of consequences, like Fujita's approximation theorem. Yuan generalized this way to the arithmetic situation, and he established the arithmetic Fujita's approximation theorem, which was also proved by Chen independently. In this paper, we introduce arithmetic linear series and give a general way to estimate them based on Yuan's idea. As an application, we consider an arithmetic analogue of the algebraic restricted volumes.

A sharp slope inequality for general stable fibrations of curves

Let M_g be the moduli space of stable curves of genus g >= 2. Let D_i be the irreducible component of the boundary of M_g such that general points of D_i correspond to stable curves with one node of type i. Let M_g^0 be the set of stable curves that have at most one node of type i>0. Let d_i be the class of D_i in Pic(M_g)_Q and h the Hodge class on M_g. In this paper, we will prove a sharp slope inequality for general stable fibrations. Namely, if $C$ is a complete curve on M_g^0, then ( (8g+4)h - g d_0 - \sum_{i=1}^{[g/2]} 4i(g-i) d_i . C ) >= 0. As an application, we can prove effective Bogomolov's conjecture for general stable fibrations.
