Generalized symmetries, conservation laws and Hamiltonian structures of an isothermal no-slip drift flux model

We study the hydrodynamic-type system of differential equations modeling isothermal no-slip drift flux. Using the facts that the system is partially coupled and its subsystem reduces to the (1+1)-dimensional Klein--Gordon equation, we exhaustively describe generalized symmetries, cosymmetries and local conservation laws of this system. A generating set of local conservation laws under the action of generalized symmetries is proved to consist of two zeroth-order conservation laws. The subspace of translation-invariant conservation laws is singled out from the entire space of local conservation laws. We also find broad families of local recursion operators and a nonlocal recursion operator, and construct an infinite family of Hamiltonian structures involving an arbitrary function of a single argument. For each of the constructed Hamiltonian operators, we obtain the associated algebra of Hamiltonian symmetries.

Extended symmetry analysis of isothermal no-slip drift flux model

We perform extended group analysis for a system of differential equations modeling an isothermal no-slip drift flux. The maximal Lie invariance algebra of this system is proved to be infinite-dimensional. We also find the complete point symmetry group of this system, including discrete symmetries, using the megaideal-based version of the algebraic method. Optimal lists of one- and two-dimensional subalgebras of the maximal Lie invariance algebra in question are constructed and employed for obtaining reductions of the system under study. Since this system contains a subsystem of two equations that involves only two of three dependent variables, we also perform group analysis of this subsystem. The latter can be linearized by a composition of a fiber-preserving point transformation with a two-dimensional hodograph transformation to the Klein-Gordon equation. We also employ both the linearization and the generalized hodograph method for constructing the general solution of the entire system under study. We find inter alia genuinely generalized symmetries for this system and present the connection between them and the Lie symmetries of the subsystem we mentioned earlier. Hydrodynamic conservation laws and their generalizations are also constructed.

Integrable quantum Stäckel systems

The Stäckel separability of a Hamiltonian system is well known to ensure existence of a complete set of Poisson commuting integrals of motion quadratic in the momenta. In the present paper we consider a class of Stäckel separable systems where the entries of the Stäckel matrix are monomials in the separation variables. We show that the only systems in this class for which the integrals of motion arising from the Stäckel construction keep commuting after quantization are, up to natural equivalence transformations, the so-called Benenti systems. Moreover, it turns out that the latter are the only quantum separable systems (that is, they admit separation of variables in the Schrödinger equation) in the class under study.

Ordering of two small parameters in the shallow water wave problem

The classical problem of irrotational long waves on the surface of a shallow layer of an ideal fluid moving under the influence of gravity as well as surface tension is considered. A systematic procedure for deriving an equation for surface elevation for a prescribed relation between the orders of the two expansion parameters, the amplitude parameter $α$ and the long wavelength (or shallowness) parameter $β$, is developed. Unlike the heuristic approaches found in the literature, when modifications are made in the equation for surface elevation itself, the procedure starts from the consistently truncated asymptotic expansions for unidirectional waves, a counterpart of the Boussinesq system of equations for the surface elevation and the bottom velocity, from which the leading order and higher order equations for the surface elevation can be obtained by iterations. The relations between the orders of the two small parameters are taken in the form $β=O(α^n)$ and $α=O(β^m)$ with $n$ and $m$ specified to some important particular cases. The analysis shows, in particular, that some evolution equations, proposed before as model equations in other physical contexts (like the Gardner equation, the modified KdV equation, and the so-called 5th-order KdV equation), can emerge as the leading order equations in the asymptotic expansion for the unidirectional water waves, on equal footing with the KdV equation. The results related to the higher orders of approximation provide a set of consistent higher order model equations for unidirectional water waves which replace the KdV equation with higher-order corrections in the case of non-standard ordering when the parameters $α$ and $β$ are not of the same order of magnitude. Stability and dynamical features of solitary wave solutions for a hydrodynamic-type system taking into account non-local effects

We consider a hydrodynamic-type system of balance equations which is closed by the dynamic equation of state taking into account the effects of spatial nonlocality. Symmetry and local conservation laws of this system are studied. A system of ODEs being obtained via the group theory reduction of the initial system of PDEs is investigated. The reduced system is shown to possess a family of the homoclinic solutions. Depending on the values of the parameters, the homoclinic solutions describe the solitary waves of compression or rarefication. The solutions corresponding to the wave of compression are shown to be unstable. More likely, the waves of rarefication are stable. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the solitary waves of rarefication moving toward each other maintain their shape after the interaction.

Conservation laws and normal forms of evolution equations

We study local conservation laws for evolution equations in two independent variables. In particular, we present normal forms for the equations admitting one or two low-order conservation laws. Examples include Harry Dym equation, Korteweg-de-Vries-type equations, and Schwarzian KdV equation. It is also shown that for linear evolution equations all their conservation laws are (modulo trivial conserved vectors) at most quadratic in the dependent variable and its derivatives.

Central extensions of cotangent universal hierarchy: (2+1)-dimensional bi-Hamiltonian systems

We introduce the cotangent universal hierarchy that extends the so-called universal hierarchy (as for the latter, see e.g. arXiv:nlin/0202008, arXiv:nlin/0312043 and arXiv:nlin/0310036). Then we construct a (2+1)-dimensional double central extension of the cotangent universal hierarchy and show that this extension is bi-Hamiltonian. This yields, as a byproduct, the central extension of the original universal hierarchy.
