Biduality and Reflexivity in Positive Characteristic

The biduality and reflexivity theorems are known to hold for projective varieties defined over fields of characteristic zero, and to fail in positive characteristic. In this article, we construct a notion of reflexivity and biduality in positive characteristic by generalizing the ordinary tangent space to the notion of $h$-tangent spaces. The ordinary reflexivity theory can be recovered as the special case $h=0$, of our theory. Several varieties that are not ordinary reflexive or bidual become reflexive in our extended theory.

Galois action on homology of generalized Fermat Curves

The fundamental group of Fermat and generalized Fermat curves is computed. These curves are Galois ramified covers of the projective line with abelian Galois groups $H$. We provide a unified study of the action of both cover Galois group $H$ and the absolute Galois group $\mathrm{Gal}(\bar{\Q}/\Q)$ on the pro-$\ell$ homology of the curves in study. Also the relation to the pro-$\ell$ Burau representation is investigated.

Galois structure of the holomorphic differentials of curves

Let $X$ be a smooth projective geometrically irreducible curve over a perfect field $k$ of positive characteristic $p$. Suppose $G$ is a finite group acting faithfully on $X$ such that $G$ has non-trivial cyclic Sylow $p$-subgroups. We show that the decomposition of the space of holomorphic differentials of $X$ into a direct sum of indecomposable $k[G]$-modules is uniquely determined by the lower ramification groups and the fundamental characters of closed points of $X$ that are ramified in the cover $X\to X/G$. We apply our method to determine the $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{F}_\ell)$-module structure of the space of holomorphic differentials of the reduction of the modular curve $\mathcal{X}(\ell)$ modulo $p$ when $p$ and $\ell$ are distinct odd primes and the action of $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{F}_\ell)$ on this reduction is not tamely ramified. This provides some non-trivial congruences modulo appropriate maximal ideals containing $p$ between modular forms arising from isotypic components with respect to the action of $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{F}_\ell)$ on $\mathcal{X}(\ell)$.

Automorphisms of the Generalized Fermat curves

Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p \geq 0$. A generalized Fermat curve of type $(k,n)$, where $k,n \geq 2$ are integers (for $p \neq 0$ we also assume that $k$ is relatively prime to $p$), is a non-singular irreducible projective algebraic curve $F_{k,n}$ defined over $K$ admitting a group of automorphisms $H \cong {\mathbb Z}_{k}^{n}$ so that $F_{k,n}/H$ is the projective line with exactly $(n+1)$ cone points, each one of order $k$. Such a group $H$ is called a generalized Fermat group of type $(k,n)$. If $(n-1)(k-1)>2$, then $F_{k,n}$ has genus $g_{n,k}>1$ and it is known to be non-hyperelliptic. In this paper, we prove that every generalized Fermat curve of type $(k,n)$ has a unique generalized Fermat group of type $(k,n)$ if $(k-1)(n-1)>2$ (for $p>0$ we also assume that $k-1$ is not a power of $p$). Generalized Fermat curves of type $(k,n)$ can be described as a suitable fiber product of $(n-1)$ classical Fermat curves of degree $k$. We prove that, for $(k-1)(n-1)>2$ (for $p>0$ we also assume that $k-1$ is not a power of $p$), each automorphism of such a fiber product curve can be extended to an automorphism of the ambient projective space. In the case that $p>0$ and $k-1$ is a power of $p$, we use tools from the theory of complete projective intersections in order to prove that, for $k$ and $n+1$ relatively prime, every automorphism of the fiber product curve can also be extended to an automorphism of the ambient projective space. In this article we also prove that the set of fixed points of the non-trivial elements of the generalized Fermat group coincide with the hyper-osculating points of the fiber product model under the assumption that the characteristic $p$ is either zero or $p>k^{n-1}$.

The Yokonuma-Temperley-Lieb Algebra

In this paper we introduce the Yokonuma-Temperley-Lieb algebra as a quotient of the Yokonuma-Hecke algebra over a two-sided ideal generated by an expression analogous to the one of the classical Temperley-Lieb algebra. The main theorem provides necessary and sufficient conditions for the Markov trace defined on the Yokonuma-Hecke algebra to pass through to the quotient algebra, leading to a sequence of knot invariants which coincide with the Jones polynomial.

Quadratic differentials and equivariant deformation theory of curves

Given a finite p-group G acting on a smooth projective curve X over an algebraically closed field k of characteristic p, the dimension of the tangent space of the associated equivariant deformation functor is equal to the dimension of the space of coinvariants of G acting on the space V of global holomorphic quadratic differentials on X. We apply known results about the Galois module structure of Riemann-Roch spaces to compute this dimension when G is cyclic or when the action of G on X is weakly ramified. Moreover we determine certain subrepresentations of V, called p-rank representations.

Ramanujan Invariants for discriminants congruent to $\mathbf{5\;mod \;24

In this paper we compute the minimal polynomials of Ramanujan values $27t_n^{-12}$ for discriminants D\equiv5mod24. Our method is based on Shimura Reciprocity Law as which was made computationally explicit by A.Gee and P. Stevenhagen. However, since these Ramanujan values are not class invariants, we present a modification of the above method which can be applied on modular functions that do not necessarily yield class invariants.

Automorphisms of Curves and Weierstrass semigroups

The relation of the Weierstrass semigroup with several invariants of a curve is studied. For Galois covers of curves with group $G$ we introduce a new filtration of the group decomposition subgroup of $G$. The relation to the ramification filtration is investigated in the case of cyclic covers. We relate our results to invariants defined by Boseck and we study the one point ramification case. We also give applications to Hasse-Witt invariant and symmetric semigroups.
