Insignificance of the anomalous magnetic moment of the quarks in presence of chiral imbalance

We incorporate the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) of quarks in the framework of PNJL model to study hot and dense magnetised matter with chiral imbalance. For this purpose, the eigen energy solution of the Dirac equation is obtained in presence of constant background magnetic field and chiral chemical potential (CCP) along with the minimal anomalous magnetic moment interaction of the fermion. Although there is a marginal enhancement in the IMC behaviour of the quark condensate due to the combined effects of AMM and CCP, we find that the overall behaviour of the Polyakov loop and the chiral charge density is dominated by the chiral chemical potential. It is further shown that the AMM effects in presence of CCP remains insignificant even after consideration of thermo-magnetically modified moments.

Dynamics of QCD Matter -- current status

In this article, there are 18 sections discussing various current topics in the field of relativistic heavy-ion collisions and related phenomena, which will serve as a snapshot of the current state of the art. Section 1 reviews experimental results of some recent light-flavored particle production data from ALICE collaboration. Other sections are mostly theoretical in nature. Very strong but transient magnetic field created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions could have important observational consequences. This has generated a lot of theoretical activity in the last decade. Sections 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11 deal with the effects of the magnetic field on the properties of the QCD matter. There are several unanswered questions about the QCD phase diagram. Sections 3, 11 and 18 discuss various aspects of the QCD phase diagram and phase transitions. Recent years have witnessed interesting developments in foundational aspects of hydrodynamics and their application to heavy-ion collisions. Sections 12, 15, 16 and 17 of this article probe some aspects of this exciting field. Transport coefficients together with their temperature- and density-dependence, are essential inputs in hydrodynamical calculations. Sections 5, 8 and 14 deal with calculation/estimation of various transport coefficients (shear and bulk viscosity, thermal conductivity, relaxation times, etc.) of quark matter and hadronic matter. Sections 4, 6 and 13 deals with interesting new developments in the field. Section 4 discusses color dipole gluon distribution function at small transverse momentum in the form of a series of Bells polynomials. Section 6 discusses the properties of Higgs boson in the quark gluon plasma using Higgs-quark interaction. Section 13 discusses modification of coalescence model to incorporate viscous corrections and application of this model.

Thermo-magnetic spectral properties of neutral mesons in vector and axial-vector channels using NJL model

In this work the neutral meson properties have been investigated in the presence of thermo-magnetic background using two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Mass, spectral function and dispersion relations are obtained in the scalar ($σ$) and pseudo-scalar ($π^0$) channels as well as in the vector ($ρ^0$) and axial vector ($a^0_1$) channels. The general Lorentz structures for the vector and axial-vector meson polarization functions have been considered in detail. The ultra-violet divergences appearing in this work have been regularized using a mixed regularization technique where the gamma functions arising in dimensional regularization are replaced with incomplete gamma functions as usually done in the proper time regularization procedure. The meson spectral functions obtained in the presence of a magnetic field possess nontrivial oscillatory structure. Similar to the scalar and pseudo-scalar channel, the spectral functions for each of the modes of $ρ^0$ are observed to overlap with the corresponding modes of its chiral partner $a_1^0$ mesons in the chiral symmetry restored phase. We observe discontinuities in the masses of all the mesonic excitations for a non-zero external magnetic field.

Wavebreaking amplitudes in warm, inhomogeneous plasmas revisited

The effect of electron temperature on the space-time evolution of nonlinear plasma oscillations in an inhomogeneous plasma is studied using a one-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) code. In contrast to the conventional wisdom, it is found that for an inhomogeneous plasma, there exists a critical value of electron temperature beyond which wave breaking does not occur. This novel result, which is of relevance to present day laser plasma experiments, has been explained on the basis of interplay between electron thermal pressure and background inhomogeneity.

Phase Mixing of Relativistically Intense Longitudinal Wave Packets in a Cold Plasma

The spatio-temporal evolution and breaking of relativistically intense wave packets in a cold homogeneous unmagnetized plasma has been studied analytically and numerically. A general expression for phase mixing time scale as a function of amplitude of the wave packet and width of the spectrum has been derived. Results have been compared with the existing formulae in literature. It is shown that phase mixing time scale crucially depends on the relative magnitude of the amplitude and dimensionless spectral width of the wave packet. Finally we have verified our results with respect to both the amplitude of the wave packet and width of the spectral using numerical simulations based on Dawson Sheet Model.

Relativistic electron beam driven longitudinal wake-wave breaking in a cold plasma

Space-time evolution of relativistic electron beam driven wake-field in a cold, homogeneous plasma, is studied using 1D-fluid simulation techniques. It is observed that the wake wave gradu- ally evolves and eventually breaks, exhibiting sharp spikes in the density profile and sawtooth like features in the electric field profile [1]. It is shown here that the excited wakefield is a longitudi- nal Akhiezer-Polovin mode [2] and its steepening (breaking) can be understood in terms of phase mixing of this mode, which arises because of relativistic mass variation effects. Further the phase mixing time (breaking time) is studied as a function of beam density and beam velocity and is found to follow the well known scaling presented in ref.[3].

Spectral properties of $ρ$ meson in a magnetic field

We calculate the rho meson mass in a weak magnetic field using effective $ρππ$ interaction. It is seen that both $ρ^0$ and $ρ^\pm$ masses decrease with the magnetic field in vacuum. $ρ$ meson dispersion relation has been calculated and shown to be different for $ρ^0$ and $ρ^\pm$. We also calculate the $ρππ$ decay width and spectral functions of $ρ^0$ and $ρ^\pm$. The width is seen to decrease with $eB$ and the spectral functions become narrower.

Analytical Estimate of Phase Mixing Time of Longitudinal Akhiezer - Polovin Wave

Phase mixing and eventual breaking of longitudinal Akhiezer - Polovin wave subjected to a small amplitude longitudinal perturbation is studied analytically. It is well known that longitudinal Akhiezer - Polovin wave breaks via the process of phase mixing at an amplitude well below its breaking amplitude, when subjected to arbitrarily small longitudinal perturbation[Phys. Rev. Lett.108, 125005 (2012)]. Here we analytically show that the phase mixing time (breaking time) has a linear dependence with phase velocity of the wave, inverse square dependence with the maximum fluid velocity and it is inversely proportional to the amplitude of perturbation. This analytical dependence of phase mixing time on the above three parameters is further verified using numerical simulations based on Dawson Sheet Model.
