Gluon Sivers function and transverse single spin asymmetries in $e + p^\uparrow \rightarrow γ+ X$

We present estimates of transverse single-spin asymmetry in prompt photon production in the scattering of low virtuality photons off a polarized proton target and discuss the possibility of using this as a probe to get information about the gluon Sivers function (GSF). Using a generalized parton model (GPM) framework, we estimate the asymmetries at electron-ion collider energy ($\sqrt{s}$ =140 GeV) taking into account both direct and resolved photon processes and find that the dominant contribution, up to $10\%$, comes from quark Sivers function (QSF) while the contribution from GSF is found to be up to $2\%$. However, upon taking into account the effects of the process-dependent initial and final state interactions through the color-gauge invariant generalized parton model approach we find that the situation is significantly changed, with near zero contributions from the QSFs and up to a $1\%$ level contribution from the \textit{f}-type GSF. Our results indicate that this process may be useful for distinguishing between GPM and color-gauge invariant generalized parton models and can be used as a good probe of \textit{f}-type GSF.

Equivalence of Light-Front and Covariant Quantum Electrodynamics at One Loop Level and the form of the Gauge Boson Propagator

We consider the three fundamental one loop Feynman diagrams of QED viz. vertex correction, fermion self-energy and vacuum polarization in the light-front gauge and discuss the equivalence of their standard covariant expressions with the light-front expressions obtained using light-cone time-ordered Hamiltonian perturbation theory. Although this issue has been considered by us and others previously, our emphasis in this article is on addressing the ambiguity regarding the correct form of the gauge boson propagator to be used in the light-front gauge. We generalize our earlier results and show, using an alternative method called the Asymptotic Method, how integrating over the light-front energy consistently in the covariant expression of each of the three one loop corrections leads to the propagating as well as the instantaneous diagrams of the light-front theory. In doing so, we re-establish the necessity of using the correct form of gauge boson propagator.

Stuckelberg SUSY QED and Infrared Problem

We review gauge invariant $\mathcal N =1$ supersymmetric massive $U(1)$ gauge theory coupled to matter and Stuckelberg superfields. We focus on the leading order self energy and vertex correction to the matter field in the massless limit of both the $U(1)$ vector superfield and the Stuckelberg superfield. We explicitly verify that the theory is infrared divergence free in the massless limit. Hence the Stuckelberg mechanism appears to be the efficient route to handle infrared divergences seen in supersymmetric quantum electrodynamics.Since these additional particles have very small masses they can serve as dark matter candidates through `Ultralight particles' mechanism.

Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry in $p+p^\uparrow \to D +X $

We present expected values of the Single Spin Asymmetry (SSA) in $D$-meson production in the process $p+p^\uparrow \rightarrow D^0 + X $ at RHIC energy $(\sqrt{s}=200\text{ GeV})$ using a generalized parton model approach. We use fits to the gluon Sivers function obtained recently by D'Alesio {\it et al.,} by fitting to the asymmetry data for the process $p+p^\uparrow \rightarrow π^0+ X$ measured by the PHENIX collaboration at RHIC. These fits give peak asymmetry predictions which lie in a broad range, $0.5\%\lesssim A_N\lesssim10\%$ for the kinematic regions considered. This is to be compared with the upper bound of 18\% expected for the maximal gluon Sivers function. We extend our analysis to two other centre of mass energies of proposed experiments - AFTER@LHC $(\sqrt{s}=115\text{ GeV})$ and a future RHIC run $(\sqrt{s}=500\text{ GeV})$. We further investigate (at $\sqrt{s}=200$ GeV) the effect of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution of the unpolarized parton distribution functions (pdf's) and of the gluon Sivers function on the asymmetry predictions. We perform this study using an evolution setup given by Anselmino {\it et al}. We find that the effect of evolution is an overall reduction of the asymmetry predictions. For example, for the saturated gluon Sivers function, upon taking into account TMD evolution, peak asymmetry predictions reduce by a factor 3 or more. This decrease is similar to that noticed earlier for Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA) in the electroproduction of $J/ψ$.

Application of Coherent State Approach for the cancellation of Infrared divergences to all orders in LFQED

We sketch an all order proof of cancellation of infrared (IR) divergences in Light Front Quantum Electrodynamics (LFQED) using a coherent state formalism. In this talk, it has been shown that the true IR divergences in fermion self energy are eliminated to all orders in a light-front time-ordered perturbative calculation if one uses coherent state basis instead of the usual Fock basis to calculate the Hamiltonian matrix elements.

Cancellation of Infrared divergences to all orders in LFQED

Coherent state approach has been proposed as an alternate way to deal with the true infrared divergences in light front field theory. We show that infrared divergences in fermion mass renormalization are eliminated to all orders in light front time ordered perturbation theory if one uses coherent state basis instead of the usual Fock basis to calculate the Hamiltonian matrix elements.

Single Spin Asymmetry in Charmonium Production

We present estimates of Single Spin Asymmetry (SSA) in the electroproduction of $J/ψ$ taking into account the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) evolution of the gluon Sivers function and using Color Evaporation Model of charmonium production. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using recent parameters for the quark Sivers functions which are fitted using an evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed up to next-to-leading logarithms (NLL) accuracy. We find that these SSAs are much smaller as compared to our first estimates obtained using DGLAP evolution but are comparable to our estimates obtained using TMD evolution where we had used approximate analytical solution of the TMD evolution equation for the purpose.

SSA in electroproduction of $J/ψ$ and QCD-evolved TMD's

We estimate Sivers asymmetry in low virtuality photoproduction of $J/ψ$ using color evaporation model and taking into account $Q^2$- evolution of transverse momentum dependent PDF's and Sivers function. There is a substantial reduction in asymmetry as compared to our previous analysis wherein the $Q^2$-dependance came only from DGLAP evolution of collinear part of TMDs. The estimates of asymmetry are comparable to our earlier estimates in which we had used analytical solution of only an approximated form of the evolution equations. We have also estimated asymmetry using the latest parametrization by Echevarria {\it et al.} which are based on an evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed to NLL accuracy.

Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry in $e+p^\uparrow \to e+J/ψ+X $ and $Q^2$ -evolution of Sivers Function-II

We present estimates of Single Spin Asymmetry(SSA) in the electroproduction of J/ψ taking into account the transverse momentum dependent(TMD) evolution of the Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using color evaporation model of J/ψ. We have calculated the asymmetry using recent parameters extracted by Echevarria et al. using the CSS approach to TMD evolution. These recent TMD evolution fits are based on the evolution kernel in which the perturbative part is resummed up to NLL accuracy. We have also estimated the asymmetry by using parameters which had been obtained by a fit by Anselmino et al., using both an exact numerical and an approximate analytical solution of the TMD evolution equations. We find that the variation among the different estimates obtained using TMD evolution is much smaller than between these on one hand and the estimates obtained using DGLAP evolution on the other. Even though the use of TMD evolution causes an overall reduction in asymmetries compared to the ones obtained without it, they remain sizable. Overall, upon use of TMD evolution, predictions for asymmetries stabilize.

Fermion Self Energy Correction in Light-Front QED using Coherent State Basis

We discuss IR divergences in lepton mass renormalization in Light-Front Quantum Electrodynamics (LFQED) in Feynman gauge. We consider LFQED with Pauli-Villars fields and using old-fashioned time ordered perturbation theory (TOPT), we show that our earlier result regarding cancellation of true IR divergences upto $O(e^4)$ in coherent state basis holds in Feynman gauge also.

Self Energy Correction in Light Front QED And Coherent State Basis

We discuss the calculation of fermion self energy correction in Light Front QED using a coherent state basis. We show that if one uses coherent state basis instead of fock basis to calculate the transition matrix elements, the true infrared divergences in electron mass renormalization $δm^2$ get canceled up to $O(e^4)$ in Light Front gauge. We have also verified this cancellation in Feynman gauge up to $O(e^2)$.

Transverse Single Spin Asymmetries and Charmonium Production

We estimate transverse spin single spin asymmetry(TSSA) in the process $e+p^\uparrow \to J/ψ+X$ using color evaporation model of charmonium production. We take into account transverse momentum dependent(TMD) evolution of Sivers function and parton distribution function and show that the there is a reduction in the asymmetry as compared to our earlier estimates wherein the $Q^2$ - evolution was implemented only through DGLAP evolution of unpolarized gluon densities.

Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry in $e+p^\uparrow \to e+J/ψ+X $ and Transverse Momentum Dependent Evolution of the Sivers Function

We extend our analysis of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in electroproduction of $J/ψ$ to include the effect of the scale evolution of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions and gluon Sivers function. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS, and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production, using an analytically obtained approximate solution of TMD evolution equations discussed in the literature. We find that there is a reduction in the asymmetry compared with our predictions for the earlier case considered by us, wherein the $Q^2$ dependence came only from DGLAP evolution of the unpolarized gluon densities and a different parametrization of the TMD Sivers function was used.

Gluon Sivers Function and Single Spin Asymmetry in $e+p^\uparrow \rightarrow e+J/ψ+ X$

We propose measurement of transverse single spin asymmetry (SSA) in charmonium production as a probe of gluon Sivers function. We estimate SSA in low virtuality electroproduction of $J/ψ$ using color evaporation model of charmonium production and existing models of the gluon Sivers function and find sizable asymmetry at JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies.

Sivers Effect and Transverse Single Spin Asymmetry in $e+p^\uparrow \to e+J/ψ+X$

We discuss the possibility of using electroproduction of $J/ψ$ as a probe of gluon Sivers function by measuring single spin asymmetry (SSA) in experiments with transversely polarized protons and electron beams. We estimate SSA for JLab, HERMES, COMPASS and eRHIC energies using the color evaporation model of charmonium production and find asymmetry up to 25% for certain choices of model parameters which have been used earlier for estimating SSA in the SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes.

Equivalence of Covariant and Light Front QED: Generating Instantaneous Diagrams

One loop expressions for fermion self energy, vacuum polarization and vertex correction in light front time ordered perturbation theory (LFTPOT) can be obtained from respective covariant expressions by performing k^- integration. In earlier work, we have shown that the third term in the doubly transverse gauge propagator is necessary to generate the diagrams involving instantaneous photon exchange both in case of fermion self-energy as well as vertex correction. In this work,we show that instantaneous photon exchange diagrams in fermion self-energy as well as th IR singular terms in the propagating diagrams can be generated by taking the asymptotic limit of the covariant expression,if one uses the commonly used two term photon propagator. We also show that this method reproduces the IR singular terms in propagating diagrams of vacuum polarization.
