Kinetic model description of dissipation and recovery in collagen fibrils under cyclic loading

Collagen fibrils, when subjected to cyclic loading, are known to exhibit hysteretic behaviour with energy dissipation that is partially recovered on relaxation. In this paper, we develop a kinetic model for a collagen fibril incorporating presence of hidden loops and stochastic fragmentation as well as reformation of sacrificial bonds. We show that the model reproduces well the characteristic features of reported experimental data on cyclic response of collagen fibrils, such as moving hysteresis loops, time evolution of residual strains and energy dissipation, recovery on relaxation, etc. We show that the approach to the steady state is controlled by a characteristic cycle number for both residual strain as well as energy dissipation, and is in good agreement with reported existing experimental data.

Minus HELLO: HELLO Devoid Protocols for Energy Preservation in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

In mobile ad-hoc networks, nodes have to transmit HELLO or Route Maintenance messages at regular intervals, and all nodes residing within its radio range, reply with an acknowledgment message informing their node identifier, current location, and radio-range. Regular transmitting these messages consume a significant amount of battery power in nodes, especially when the set of down-link neighbors does not change over time and the radio-range of the sender node is large. The present article focuses on this aspect and tries to eliminate the number of HELLO messages in existing state-of-art protocols. Also, it shortens radio-ranges of nodes whenever possible. Simulation results show that the average lifetime of nodes greatly increases in proposed Minus HELLO devoid routing protocols along with a great increase in network throughput. Also, the required number of route re-discovery reduces.

Reputation-Based Attack-Resistant Cooperation Stimulation (RACS) For Mobile Ad hoc Networks

In mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), nodes usually belong to different authorities and pursue different goals. In order to maximize their own performance, nodes in such networks tend to be selfish and are not willing to forward packets for benefit of others. Meanwhile, some nodes may behave maliciously and try to disrupt the network through wasting other nodes resources in a very large scale. In this article, we present a reputation-based attack resistant cooperation stimulation (RACS) system which ensures that damage caused by malicious nodes can be bounded and cooperation among the selfish nodes can be enforced. Mathematical analyses of the system as well as the simulation results have confirmed effectiveness of our proposed system. RACS is completely self-organizing and distributed. It does not require any tamper-proof hardware or central management policy.
