Topological near-field heat flow in a honeycomb lattice

We study the near-field thermal radiation of topologically protected edge modes in a honeycomb lattice of plasmonic InSb nanoparticles. We show that the heat transport by near-field interaction is in the topological non-trivial phase dominated by the heat flux channel provided by the edge modes rather than the bulk modes. This heat flux channel allows for an enhanced heat transport along the edges of the honeycomb lattice. In particular for materials with relatively small dissipation we find a 30 to 50 times larger heat flux along the lattice edges than in the bulk.

Radiative heat flux through a topological Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain of plasmonic nanoparticles

We investigate the radiative heat transport along a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger chain of InSb nanoparticles. We show that in the topological non-trivial phase, the edge modes dominate the radiative heat transport despite their strong localization at the edges of the finite chain due to a long-range coupling of the first and last particle. We further discuss the scaling laws of the heat transfer with respect to the chain length for the longitudinal and transversal band- and edge modes and conclude that both type of modes obey the same scaling law.

Thermal rectification and spin-spin coupling of non-reciprocal localized and surface modes

We study the rectification of near-field radiative heat transfer between two InSb nano-particles due to the presence of non-reciprocal surface modes in a nearby InSb sample when an external magnetic field is applied and its dependence on the magnetic field strength. We reveal the spin-spin coupling mechanism of the localized particle resonances and the surface mode resonances which is substantiated by the directional heat flux in the given setup. We discuss further the interplay of the frequency shift, the propagation length, and local density of states on the strength and directionality of the rectification as well as the non-reciprocal heating effect of the nanoparticles.
