Branching ratios, radiative lifetimes and transition dipole moments for YbOH

Medium resolution ($Δν$ ~ 3 GHz) laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) excitation spectra of a rotationally cold sample of YbOH in the 17300-17950 cm$^{-1}$ range have been recorded using two-dimensional (excitation and dispersed fluorescence) spectroscopy. High resolution ($Δλ$ ~ 0.65 nm) dispersed laser induced fluorescence (DLIF) spectra and radiative decay curves of numerous bands detected in the medium resolution LIF excitation spectra were recorded. The vibronic energy levels of the $\tilde{X} \, ^2Σ^+$ state were predicted using a discrete variable representation approach and compared with observations. The radiative decay curves were analyzed to produce fluorescence lifetimes. DLIF spectra resulting from high resolution ($Δν$ < 10 MHz) LIF excitation of individual low-rotational lines in the $\tilde{A} \, ^2Π_{1/2}(0,0,0) - \tilde{X} \, ^2Σ^+(0,0,0)$, $\tilde{A} \, ^2Π_{1/2}(1,0,0) - \tilde{X} \, ^2Σ^+(0,0,0)$, $[17.73]Ω=0.5(0,0,0) - \tilde{X} \, ^2Σ^+(0,0,0)$ bands were also recorded. The DLIF spectra were analyzed to determine branching ratios which were combined with radiative lifetimes to obtain transition dipole moments. The implications for laser cooling and trapping of YbOH are discussed.

Observation and laser spectroscopy of ytterbium monomethoxide, YbOCH$_3$

We describe a laser spectroscopic study of ytterbium monomethoxide, YbOCH$_3$, a species of interest to searches for time-reversal symmetry violation using laser-cooled molecules. We report measurements of vibrational structure in the $\tilde{X}$ and $\tilde{A}$ states, vibrational branching ratios for several components of the $\tilde{A}$ state, and radiative lifetimes of low-lying electronic states. $\textit{Ab initio}$ calculations are used to aid the assignment of vibronic emission bands and provide insight into the electronic and vibrational structure. Our results demonstrate that rapid optical cycling is feasible for YbOCH$_3$, opening a path to orders-of-magnitude increased sensitivity in future measurements of P- and/or T-violating physics.

The near-infrared spectrum of ethynyl radical

Transient diode laser absorption spectroscopy has been used to measure three strong vibronic bands in the near infrared spectrum of the C$_2$H, ethynyl, radical not previously observed in the gas phase. The radical was produced by ultraviolet excimer laser photolysis of either acetylene or (1,1,1)-trifluoropropyne in a slowly flowing sample of the precursor diluted in inert gas, and the spectral resolution was Doppler-limited. The character of the upper states was determined from the rotational and fine structure in the observed spectra and assigned by measurement of ground state rotational combination differences. The upper states include a $^2Σ^+$ state at 6696 cm$^{-1}$, a second $^2Σ^+$ state at 7088 cm$^{-1}$, and a $^2Π$ state at 7110 cm$^{-1}$. By comparison with published calculations (R. Tarroni and S. Carter, \textit{J. Chem. Phys} \textbf{119}, 12878 (2003) and \textit{Mol. Phys}. \textbf{102}, 2167 (2004)), the vibronic character of these levels was also assigned. The observed states contain both $X^2Σ^+$ and $A^2Π$ electronic character. Several local rotational level perturbations were observed in the excited states. Kinetic measurements of the time-evolution of the ground state populations following collisional relaxation and reactive loss of the radicals formed in a hot, non-thermal, population distribution were made using some of the strong rotational lines observed. The case of C$ _{2} $H may be a good place to investigate the behavior at intermediate pressures of inert colliders, where the competition between relaxation and reaction can be tuned and observed to compare with master equation models, rather than deliberately suppressed to measure thermal rate constants.

The Multi-path Utility Maximization and Multi-path TCP Design

The network utility maximization problem (NUM) for multi-path is a problem which is non-strictly convex and non-separable. Using Jensen's inequality, we approximate the NUM to a strictly convex and separable problem which can be solved efficiently by the dual decomposition method. After a series of approximations, the result of the approximation problem converges to the globally optimal solution of the original problem. Moreover, because of the separable and dual-based natures of the proposed algorithm, we utilize the reverse engineering frameworks of the current TCPs to develop a series of multi-path TCPs which are totally compatible with current TCPs. The multi-path users using our protocols can run simultaneously with the single-path users using the current TCPs. The simulations of our Multi-path Reno on ns-2 show the compatibility and the fairness among multi-path and single-path users.
