Bianchi I spacetimes within 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet scalar field theory

We investigate the evolution of anisotropies in Bianchi I spacetimes within the framework of the 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet scalar field theory. The field equations are formulated using dimensionless variables, and the asymptotic dynamics are studied through a combination of analytical and numerical techniques. For the locally rotationally symmetric case, we analytically explore the stationary points of the field equations. The analysis reveals the existence of accelerating solutions in which the scalar field and the Gauss-Bonnet scalar effectively play the role of a cosmological constant. As a result, both anisotropic and isotropic expanding solutions are recovered, along with the Minkowski spacetime. No scaling solutions are supported by the gravitational model. For the general anisotropic Bianchi I geometry with three distinct scale factors, we find that a class of compactified Kasner-like solutions is obtained. In addition, a new family of solutions follows, describing a two-dimensional splitting of the background geometry. This behavior is similar to the previously observed pure Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory in higher-dimensional spacetimes.

Indications of a Late-Time Transition to a Strongly Interacting Dark Sector

We explore the transition from the $Λ$CDM to an interacting dark sector by introducing a model with a redshift threshold that controls the onset of the energy transfer between the dark energy and the dark matter. Below the transition redshift, the interaction between dark matter and dark energy becomes active, while at earlier times the cosmological evolution coincides with that of $Λ$CDM. This approach allows us to determine the epoch in the comic history where the interacting effects have an impact in the description of the dark sector. We constrain the free parameters of the model using late-time cosmological observations, namely Cosmic Chronometers, DESI DR2 Baryonic Acoustic Oscillations, and Supernova data from the Pantheon Plus, Union3.0, and DES-Dovekie catalogues. The analysis provides an indication of a strong interacting term that describes energy transfer from dark energy to dark matter, which is activated at low redshifts. The PantheonPlus sample provides a threshold of $z_{T}<0.624$, the Union3.0 sample yields $z_{T}=0.400_{-0.23}^{+0.021}$, and the DES-Dovekie sample gives $z_{T}=0.371_{-0.26}^{+0.028}$. The model fits the data in a similar way to the CPL parametrization, without the dark energy to cross the phantom divide line.

An extended analysis for a generalized Chaplygin gas model

In this work, we have extended the analysis on the generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG) model as the unification of dark energy and dark matter. Specifically, we have shown that the model of our consideration known as the new generalized Chaplygin gas (NGCG) model, admits a scalar field description, which means that there exist a minimally coupled scalar field for a given scalar field potential where the equation of state is that of the NGCG. With the use of the later property we can construct the slow-roll parameters and derive the corresponding values for the spectral indices for the tensor to scalar perturbation and for the density perturbations. We have also studied the growth rate of matter perturbations in the NGCG scenario. Finally, we have studied the viability of the generalized second law of thermodynamics by assuming that the dynamical apparent horizon in a NGCG universe is endowed with Hawking temperature and Bekenstein entropy.

Analytic solution and Noether symmetries for the hyperbolic inflationary model in the Jordan frame

The Noether symmetry analysis is applied for the study of a multifield cosmological model in a spatially flat FLRW background geometry. The gravitational Action Integral consists of two scalar fields, the Brans-Dicke field and a second scalar field minimally coupled to gravity. However, the two scalar fields interact in the kinetic terms. This multifield has been found to describe the equivalent of hyperbolic inflation in the Jordan frame. The application of Noether's theorems constrain the free parameters of the model that conservation laws exist. We find that the field equations form an integrable dynamical system and the analytic solution is derived.

Anisotropic spacetimes in $f(T,B)$ theory I: Bianchi I Universe

That is the first part of a series of studies on analyzing the higher-order teleparallel theory of gravity known as the $f(T, B)$-theory. This work attempts to understand how the anisotropic spacetimes are involved in the $f(T, B)$-theory. In this work, we review the previous analysis of $f(T, B)$-gravity, and we investigate the global dynamics in the case of a locally rotational Bianchi I background geometry. We focus in the case of $f\left( T,B\right) =T+F\left( B\right) $ theory and we determine the criteria where the $f\left( T,B\right) $-theory solves the homogeneity problem. Finally, the integrability properties for the field equations are investigated by applying the Painlevé analysis. The analytic solution is expressed by a right Painlevé expansion.

Anisotropic spacetimes in $f(T,B)$ theory II: Kantowski-Sachs Universe

In the context of the modified teleparallel $f(T, B)$-theory of gravity, we consider a homogeneous and anisotropic background geometry described by the Kantowski-Sachs line element. We derive the field equations and investigate the existence of exact solutions. Furthermore, the evolution of the trajectories for the field equations is studied by deriving the stationary points at the finite and infinite regimes. For the $f(T,B)=T+F\left( B\right) $ theory, we prove that for a specific limit of the function $F\left( B\right) $, the anisotropic Universe has the expanding and isotropic Universe as an attractor with zero spatial curvature. We remark that there are no future attractors where the asymptotic solution describes a Universe with nonzero spatial curvature.

Anisotropic spacetimes in $f(T,B)$ theory III: LRS Bianchi III Universe

We study the asymptotic dynamics of $f(T, B)$-theory in an anisotropic Bianchi III background geometry. We show that an attractor always exists for the field equations, which depends on a free parameter provided by the specific $f(T, B)$ functional form. The attractor is an accelerated spatially flat FLRW or non-accelerated LRS Bianchi III geometry. Consequently, the $f(T, B)$-theory provides a spatially flat and isotropic accelerated Universe.

Anisotropic spacetimes in $f(T,B)$ theory IV: Noether symmetry analysis

The Noether symmetry analysis is applied for the analysis of the field equations in an anisotropic background in $f(T,B)$-theory. We consider the $f\left( T,B\right) =T+F\left( B\right) $ which describes a small deviation from TEGR introduced by the boundary scalar $B$. For the Bianchi\ I, Bianchi III and Kantowski-Sachs geometries there exists a minisuperspace description and Noether's theorems are applied. We investigate the existence of invariant point transformations. We find that for the Bianchi I spacetime the gravitational field equations are Liouville integrable for the $F\left( B\right) =-\frac{B}λ\ln B$ theory. The analytic solution is derived and the application of Noether symmetries to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of quantum cosmology is discussed.

Cosmology Intertwined: A Review of the Particle Physics, Astrophysics, and Cosmology Associated with the Cosmological Tensions and Anomalies

In this paper we will list a few important goals that need to be addressed in the next decade, also taking into account the current discordances between the different cosmological probes, such as the disagreement in the value of the Hubble constant $H_0$, the $σ_8$--$S_8$ tension, and other less statistically significant anomalies. While these discordances can still be in part the result of systematic errors, their persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the necessity for new physics or generalisations beyond the standard model. In this paper, we focus on the $5.0\,σ$ tension between the {\it Planck} CMB estimate of the Hubble constant $H_0$ and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the $H_0$ evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we list a few interesting new physics models that could alleviate this tension and discuss how the next decade's experiments will be crucial. Moreover, we focus on the tension of the {\it Planck} CMB data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density $Ω_m$, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure ($σ_8,fσ_8$). We list a few interesting models proposed for alleviating this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model and not just one parameter at a time. Additionally, we present a wide range of other less discussed anomalies at a statistical significance level lower than the $H_0$--$S_8$ tensions which may also constitute hints towards new physics, and we discuss possible generic theoretical approaches that can collectively explain the non-standard nature of these signals.[Abridged]

Hyperbolic inflation in the Jordan frame

We consider a multi-scalar field model in the Jordan frame which can be seen as a two-scalar field model where the Brans-Dicke field interacts in the kinetic part with the second scalar field. This theory under a conformal transformation reduces to the hyperbolic inflation. We show that scaling solutions and the de Sitter universe are provided by theory. In the study of asymptotic dynamics, we determine an attractor where all the fluid sources contribute in the cosmological fluid. This attractor is always a spiral and it can be seen as the analogue of the hyperbolic inflation in the Jordan frame.

Hyperbolic inflationary model with nonzero curvature

We consider a cosmological model consisting of two scalar fields defined in the hyperbolic plane known as hyperbolic inflation. For the background space, we consider a homogeneous and isotropic spacetime with nonzero curvature. We study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions and we search for attractors in the expanding regime. We prove that two hyperbolic inflationary stages are stable solutions that can solve the flatness problem and describe acceleration for both open and closed models, and additionally we obtain a Milne-like attractor solution for the open model. We also investigate the contracting branch obtaining mirror solutions with the opposite dynamical behaviours.

Lie Symmetries, Painlevé analysis and global dynamics for the temporal equation of radiating stars

We study the temporal equation of radiating stars by using three powerful methods for the analysis of nonlinear differential equations. Specifically, we investigate the global dynamics for the given master ordinary differential equation to understand the evolution of solutions for various initial conditions as also to investigate the existence of asymptotic solutions. Moreover, with the application of Lie's theory, we can reduce the order of the master differential equation, while an exact similarity solution is determined. Finally, the master equation possesses the Painlevé property, which means that the analytic solution can be expressed in terms of a Laurent expansion.

Modified Brans-Dicke cosmology with Minimum Length Uncertainty

We consider a modification of the Brans-Dicke gravitational Action Integral inspired by the existence of a minimum length uncertainty for the scalar field. In particular, the kinetic part of the Brans-Dicke scalar field is modified such that the equation of motion for the scalar field be modified according to the quadratic Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). For the background geometry, we assume the homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker metric. We investigate the dynamics and the cosmological evolution for the dynamical variables of the theory and we compare the results with the unmodified Brans-Dicke theory. It follows that in consideration because of the additional degrees of freedom in the energy-momentum tensor the dynamical variables describe various aspects of the cosmological history. This is one of the first studies on the effects of GUP in a Machian gravitational theory.

New exact and analytic solutions in Weyl Integrable cosmology from Noether symmetry analysis

We consider a cosmological model in a Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space with an ideal gas defined in Weyl Integrable gravity. In the Einstein-Weyl theory a scalar field is introduced in a geometric way. Furthermore, the scalar field and the ideal gas interact in the gravitational Action Integral. Furthermore, we introduce a potential term for the scalar field potential and we show that the field equations admit a minisuperspace description. Noether's theorem is applied for the constraint of the potential function and the corresponding conservation laws are constructed. Finally, we solve the Hamilton-Jacobi equation for the cosmological model and we derive a family of new solutions in Weyl Integrable cosmology. Some closed-form expressions for the Hubble function are presented.

New inflationary exact solution from Lie symmetries

For the inflaton field we determine a new exact solution by using the Lie symmetry analysis. Specifically, we construct a second-order differential master equation for arbitrary scalar field potential by assuming that the spectral index for the density perturbations $n_{s}$ and the scalar to tensor ratio $r$ are related as $n_{s}-1=h\left( r\right) $. Function $h\left( r\right) $ is classified according to the admitted Lie symmetries for the master equation. The possible admitted Lie symmetries form the $A_{2}$, $A_{3,2}$, $A_{3,3}$ and $sl\left( 3,R\right) $ Lie algebras. The new inflationary solution is recovered by the Lie symmetries of the $A_{3,3}$ algebra. Scalar field potential is derived explicitly, while we compare the resulting spectral indices with the observations.

Painlevé analysis for the cosmological field equations in Weyl Integrable Spacetime

We apply singularity analysis to investigate the integrability properties of the gravitational field equations in Weyl Integrable Spacetime for a spatially flat Friedmann--Lemaître--Robertson--Walker background spacetime induced with an ideal gas. We find that the field equations possess the Painlevé property in the presence of the cosmological constant and the analytic solution is given by a left Laurent expansion.

Role of the remnant symmetries in gravitational theories based on absolute parallelism: a 2D standpoint

By using simplified 2D gravitational, non-local Lorentz invariant actions constructed upon the torsion tensor, we discuss the physical meaning of the remnant symmetries associated with the near-horizon (Milne) geometry experienced by a radial observer in Schwarzschild spacetime. We then fully characterize the remnant symmetries corresponding to this near-horizon 2D geometry by solving the motion equations adapted to 2D Milne space. This symmetries, which represent special or privileged \emph{diads}, acquire the form of uniformly accelerated (Rindler) observers whose constant acceleration is proportional to the black hole mass $M$.

Similarity transformations and linearization for a family of dispersionless integrable PDEs

We apply the theory of Lie point symmetries for the study of a family of partial differential equations which are integrable by the hyperbolic reductions method and are reduced to members of the Painlevé transcendents. The main results of this study is that from the application of the similarity transformations provided by the Lie point symmetries all the members of the family of the partial differential equations are reduced to second-order differential equations which are maximal symmetric and can be linearized.

Symmetries and conservation laws for the generalized $n$-dimensional Ermakov system

We revise recent results on the classification of the generalized three-dimensional Hamiltonian Ermakov system. We show that a statement published recently is incorrect, while the solution for the classification problem was incomplete. We present the correct classification for the three-dimensional system by using results which related the background space with the dynamics. Finally, we extend our results for the generalized $n$% -dimensional Hamiltonian Ermakov system.

Temporal evolution of a radiating star via Lie symmetries

In this work, we present for the first time the general solution of the temporal evolution equation arising from the matching of a conformally flat interior to the Vaidya solution. This problem was first articulated by Banerjee et al. (A. Banerjee, S. B. Dutta Choudhury, and Bidyut K. Bhui, Phys. Rev. D, 40 (670) 1989) in which they provided a particular solution to the temporal equation. This simple exact solution has been widely utilized in modeling dissipative collapse with the most notable result being a prediction of the avoidance of the horizon as the collapse proceeds. We study the dynamics of dissipative collapse arising from the general solution obtained via the method of symmetries and of the singularity analysis. We show that the end-state of collapse for our model is significantly different from the widely used linear solution.

Unified dark sectors in scalar-torsion theories of gravity

We present a unified description of the matter and dark energy epochs, using a class of scalar-torsion theories. We provide a Hamiltonian description, and by applying Noether's theorem and by requiring the field equations to admit linear-in-momentum conservation laws we obtain two specific classes of scalar-field potentials. We extract analytic solutions and we perform a detailed dynamical analysis. We show that the system possesses critical points that correspond to scaling solutions in which the effective, total equation-of-state parameter is close to zero and points in which it is equal to the cosmological constant value $-1$. Therefore, during evolution, the Universe remains for sufficiently long times at the epoch corresponding to dust-matter domination, while at later times it enters the accelerated epoch and it eventually results in the de Sitter phase. Finally, in contrast to other unified scenarios, such as Chaplygin gas-based models as well as Horndeski-based constructions, the present scenario is free from instabilities and pathologies at the perturbative level.

$f(T)$ Cosmology with Nonzero Curvature

We investigate exact and analytic solutions in $f\left( T\right) $ gravity within the context of a Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space with nonzero spatial curvature. For the power law theory $f\left( T\right) =T^{n}$ we find that the field equations admit an exact solution with a linear scalar factor for negative and positive spatial curvature. That Milne-like solution is asymptotic behaviour for the scale factor near the initial singularity for the model $f\left( T\right) =T+f_{0}T^{n}-2Λ$. The analytic solution for that specific theory is presented in terms of Painlevé Series for $n>1$. Moreover, from the\ value of the resonances of the Painlevé Series we conclude that the Milne-like solution is always unstable while for large values of the indepedent parameter, the field equations provide an expanding universe with a de Sitter expansion of a positive cosmological constant. Finally, the presence of the cosmological term $Λ$ in the studied $f\left( T\right) $ model plays no role in the general behavior of the cosmological solution and the universe immerge in a de Sitter expansion either when the cosmological constant term $Λ$ in the $f\left( T\right) $ model vanishes.

Dynamics of an Interacting Barrow Holographic Dark Energy Model and its Thermodynamic Implications

In this paper, using Barrow entropy, we propose an interacting model of Barrow holographic dark energy (BHDE). In particular, we study the evolution of a spatially flat FLRW universe composed of pressureless dark matter and BHDE that interact with each other through a well-motivated interaction term. Considering the Hubble horizon as the IR cut-off, we then study the evolutionary history of important cosmological parameters, particularly, the density parameter, the equation of state parameter, and the deceleration parameter in the BHDE model and find satisfactory behaviors in the model. We perform a detailed study on the dynamics of the field equations by studying the asymptotic behavior of the field equations, while we write the analytic expression for the scale factor with the use of Laurent series. Finally, we study the implications of gravitational thermodynamics in the interacting BHDE model with the dynamical apparent horizon as the cosmological boundary. In particular, we study the viability of the generalized second law by assuming that the apparent horizon is endowed with Hawking temperature and Barrow entropy.

We present exact solutions in Einstein-aether theory in a static spherically symmetric background space with a spacelike aether field, as a difference with the usual selection of timelike aether field. We assume a coupling between the scalar field and the aether field introduced in the aether coefficients. The exact spacetimes describe hairy black hole solutions for which the limits of the Schwarzschild, de-Sitter Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordström metrics are recovered.

Quantum potentiality in Inhomogeneous Cosmology

For the Szekeres system which describes inhomogeneous and anisotropic spacetimes we make use of a point-like Lagrangian, which describes the evolution of the physical variables of the Szekeres model, in order to perform a canonical quantization and to study the quantum potentiality of the Szekeres system in the content of de Broglie--Bohm theory. We revise previous results on the subject and we find that for a specific family of trajectories with initial conditions which satisfy a constraint equation, there exists additional conservation laws for the classical Szekeres system which are used to define differential operators and to solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. From the new conservation laws we construct a wave function which provides a nonzero quantum potential term that modifies the Szekeres system. The quantum potential corresponds to new terms in the dynamical system such that new asymptotic solutions with a nonzero energy momentum tensor of an anisotropic fluid exist. Therefore, the silent property of the Szekeres spacetimes is violated by quantum correction terms.

Variational symmetries and superintegrability in multifield cosmology

We consider a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker background space with an ideal gas and a multifield Lagrangian consisting of two minimally coupled scalar fields which evolve in a field space of constant curvature. For this cosmological model we classify the potential function for the scalar fields such that variational point symmetries exist. The corresponding conservation laws are calculated. Finally, analytic solutions are presented for specific functional forms of the scalar field potential in which the cosmological field equations are characterized as a Liouville integrable system by point symmetries. The free parameters of the cosmological model are constrained in order to describe analytic solutions for an inflationary epoch. Finally, stability properties of exact closed-form solutions are investigated. These solutions are scaling solutions with important physical properties for the cosmological model.

Analytic solutions in Einstein-aether scalar field cosmology

In the context of Einstein-aether scalar field cosmology we solve the field equations and determine exact and analytic solutions. In particular, we consider a model proposed by Kanno and Soda where the aether and the scalar fields interact through the aether coefficient parameters, which are promoted to be functions of the scalar field. For this model, we write the field equations by using the minisuperspace approach and we determine the scalar field potentials which leads to Liouville--integrable systems. We solve the field equations for five families of scalar field potentials and, whether it is feasible, we write down the analytic solutions by using closed-form functions.

Cosmological Evolution of Two-Scalar fields Cosmology in the Jordan frame

In the present article we study the cosmological evolution of a two-scalar field gravitational theory defined in the Jordan frame. Specifically, we assume one of the scalar fields to be minimally coupled to gravity, while the second field which is the Brans-Dicke scalar field is nonminimally coupled to gravity and also coupled to the other scalar field. In the Einstein frame this theory reduces to a two-scalar field theory where the two fields can interact only in the potential term, which means that the quintom theory is recovered. The cosmological evolution is studied by analyzing the equilibrium points of the field equations in the Jordan frame. We find that the theory can describe the cosmological evolution in large scales, while inflationary solutions are also provided.

We perform a detailed study on the integrability of the Hoř% ava-Lifshitz scalar field cosmology in a Friedmann--Lema\^ı% tre--Robertson--Walker background spacetime. The approach we follow to determine the integrability is that of the Singularity Analysis. More specifically, we test if the gravitational field equations possesses the Painlevé property. In particular, we consider nonlinear interactions of the scalar field with the aether field. For the model under consideration we can write the field equations by using the minisuperspace description. The point-like Lagrangian of the field equations depends on three unknown functions. Imprints of an extended Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization on the large scale of our universe

In the present work we perform a systematic analysis of a new dark energy parametrization and its various corrections at first and higher orders around the presence epoch $z=0$, where the first order correction of this dark energy parametrization recovers the known Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model. We have considered up to the third order corrections of this parametrization and investigate the models at the level of background and perturbations. The models have been constrained using the latest astronomical datasets from a series of potential astronomical data, such as the cosmic microwave background observations, baryon acoustic oscillations measurements, recent Pantheon sample of the supernova type Ia and the Hubble parameter measurements. From the analyses we found that all parametrization favor the quintessential character of the dark energy equation of state where the phantom crossing is marginally allowed (within 68\% CL). Finally, we perform the Bayesian analysis using \texttt{MCEvidence} to quantify the statistical deviations of the parametrizations compared to the standard $Λ$CDM cosmology. The Bayesian analysis reports that $Λ$CDM is favored over all the DE parametrizations.

Infinite dimensional symmetry groups of the Friedmann equations

We find the symmetry generators for the Friedman equations emanating from a perfect fluid source, in the presence of a cosmological constant term. The relevant dynamics is seen to be governed by two coupled, first order ordinary differential equations, the continuity and the quadratic constraint equation. Arbitrary functions appear in the components of the symmetry vector, indicating the infinity of the group. When the equation of state is considered as arbitrary but ab initio given, previously known results are recovered and/or generalized. When the pressure is considered among the dynamical variables, solutions for models with different equations of state are mapped to each other; thus enabling the presentation of solutions to models with complicated equations of state starting from simple known cases.

Inhomogeneous spacetimes in Einstein-æther Cosmology

We investigate the existence of inhomogeneous Szekeres spacetimes in Einstein-æther theory. We show that inhomogeneous solutions which can be seen as extension of the Szekeres solutions existing in Einstein-æther gravity only for a specific relation between the dimensionless coefficients which defines the coupling between the æther filed with gravity. The two Szekeres classes of solutions are derived. Also a class of inhomogeneous FLRW-like spacetimes is allowed by the theory for arbitrary values of the dimensionless coefficients of the æther field. The stability of the solutions obtained is performed from where we find that the field equations evolve more variously in Einstein-æther than in General Relativity, where isotropic spacetimes and Kantowski-Sachs spacetimes are found to be attractors.

Inhomogeneous spacetimes in Weyl integrable geometry with matter source

We investigate the existence of inhomogeneous exact solutions in Weyl Integrable theory with a matter source. In particular, we consider the existence of a dust fluid source while for the underlying geometry we assume a line element which belongs to the family of silent universes. We solve explicitly the field equations and we find the Szekeres spacetimes in Weyl Integrable theory. We show that only the isotropic family can describe inhomogeneous solutions where the LTB spacetimes are included. A detailed analysis of the dynamics of the field equations is given where the past and future attractors are determined. It is interesting that the Kasner spacetimes can be seen as past attractors for the gravitation models, while the unique future attractor describes the Milne universe similar with the behaviour of the gravitational model in the case of General Relativity.

Lie symmetries and singularity analysis for generalized shallow-water equations

We perform a complete study by using the theory of invariant point transformations and the singularity analysis for the generalized Camassa-Holm equation and the generalized Benjamin-Bono-Mahoney equation. From the Lie theory we find that the two equations are invariant under the same three-dimensional Lie algebra which is the same Lie algebra admitted by the Camassa-Holm equation. We determine the one-dimensional optimal system for the admitted Lie symmetries and we perform a complete classification of the similarity solutions for the two equations of our study. The reduced equations are studied by using the point symmetries or the singularity analysis. Finally, the singularity analysis is directly applied on the partial differential equations from where we infer that the generalized equations of our study pass the singularity test and are integrable.

For each case the one-dimensional optimal system is derived; a necessary analysis to find all the possible similarity transformations which simplify the equation. Lie Symmetry Analysis and Similarity Solutions for the Jimbo-Miwa Equation and Generalisations

We study the Jimbo-Miwa equation and two of its extended forms, as proposed by Wazwaz et al, using Lie's group approach. Interestingly, the travelling-wave solutions for all the three equations are similar. Moreover, we obtain certain new reductions which are completely different for each of the three equations. For example, for one of the extended forms of the Jimbo-Miwa equation, the subsequent reductions leads to a second-order equation with Hypergeometric solutions. In certain reductions, we obtain simpler first-order and linearisable second-order equations, which helps us to construct the analytic solution as a closed-form function. The variation in the nonzero Lie brackets for each of the different forms of the Jimbo-Miwa also presents a different perspective. Finally, singularity analysis is applied in order to determine the integrability of the reduced equations and of the different forms of the Jimbo-Miwa equation.

Metastable dark energy models in light of Planck 2018: Alleviating the $H_0$ tension

We investigate the recently introduced metastable dark energy (DE) models after the final Planck 2018 legacy release. The essence of the present work is to analyze their evolution at the level of perturbations. Our analyses show that both the metastable dark energy models considered in this article, are excellent candidates to alleviate the $H_0$ tension. In particular, for the present models, Planck 2018 alone can alleviate the $H_0$ tension within 68\% CL. Along with the final cosmic microwave background data from the Planck 2018 legacy release, we also include external cosmological datasets in order to asses the robustness of our findings.

Nonlinear interacting cosmological models after Planck 2018 legacy release and the $H_0$ tension

Interacting dark energy models are widely renowned for giving an explanation to the cosmic coincidence problem as well as several observational issues. According to the recent observational data, and so far we are concerned with the literature, the choice of the interaction function between dark matter and dark energy is always questionable since there is no such underlying theory that could derive it. Thus, in this work we have raised this issue by proposing two new nonlinear interaction functions and constrain them using cosmic microwave background (CMB) from Planck 2018, baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO), dark energy survey and a measurement of the Hubble constant $H_0$ from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) 2019. The dark energy equation of state is considered to be constant throughout the work and the geometry of the universe is assumed to be homogeneous and isotropic with zero spatial curvature. Our analyses report that a non-zero interaction is always allowed by the observational data and the dark energy equation of state is bent towards the phantom regime. In particular, when $H_0$ from HST is added to Planck 2018+BAO, we find an evidence for a non-zero coupling at more than $2σ$ confidence level. Our analyses also report that for both the models, $H_0$ is close to its local measurements and thus alleviating the $H_0$ tension. In particular, one of the interacting models perfectly solves the $H_0$ tension.

In addition, the reduction based on the scaling symmetry for the Euler-Bernoulli form leads to certain odes for which there exists zero symmetries. Therefore, we conduct the singularity analysis to ascertain the integrability. We study two reduced odes of order second and third. The reduced second-order ode is a perturbed form of Painlevé-Ince equation, which is integrable and the third-order ode falls into the category of equations studied by Chazy, Bureau and Cosgrove. Moreover, we derived the symmetries and its corresponding reductions and conservation laws for the forced form of the above mentioned beam forms. The Lie Algebra is mentioned explicitly for all the cases.

Similarity solutions and Conservation laws for the Bogoyavlensky-Konopelchenko Equation by Lie point symmetries

The 1 + 2 dimensional Bogoyavlensky-Konopelchenko Equation is investigated for its solution and conservation laws using the Lie point symmetry analysis. In the recent past, certain work has been done describing the Lie point symmetries for the equation and this work seems to be incomplete (Ray S (2017) Compt. Math. Appl. 74, 1157). We obtained certain new symmetries and corresponding conservation laws. The travelling-wave solution and some other similarity solutions are studied.

Stability of a modified Jordan-Brans-Dicke theory in the dilatonic frame

We investigate the Jordan-Brans-Dicke action in the cosmological scenario of FLRW spacetime with zero spatially curvature and with an extra scalar field minimally coupled to gravity as matter source. The field equations are studied in two ways. The method of group invariant transformations, i.e., symmetries of differential equations apply in order to constraint the free functions of the theory and determine conservation laws for the gravitational field equations. The second method that we apply for the study of the evolution of the field equations is the stability analysis of equilibrium points. Particularly, we find solutions with $w_{\text{tot}}=-1$, and we study their stability by means of the Center Manifold Theorem. We show this solution is an attractor in the dilatonic frame but it is an intermediate accelerated solution $a \simeq e^{A t^p}, p:=\frac{2}{2+l}, \quad \frac{32}{57+6 ω_0}<p<\frac{2}{3}, \;\text{as}\; t\rightarrow \infty$, and not de Sitter solution. The exponent $p$ is reduced, in a particular case, to the exponent already found for the Jordan's and Einstein's frames by A. Cid, G. Leon and Y. Leyva, JCAP 1602, no. 02, 027 (2016). We obtain some equilibrium points which represent stiff solutions. Additionally, we find solutions that can be a phantom solution, a solution with $w_{\text{tot}}=-1$ or a quintessence solution. Other equilibrium points mimic a standard dark matter source ($0<w_{\text{tot}}<1$), radiation ($w_{\text{tot}}=\frac{1}{3}$), among other interesting features. For the dynamical system analysis we develop an extension of the method of $F$-devisers. The new approach relies upon two arbitrary functions $h(λ, s)$ and $F(s)$. The main advantage of this procedure allows us to perform a phase-space analysis of the cosmological model without the need for specifying the potentials, revealing the full capabilities of the model.

Symmetry Analysis for a Fourth-order Noise-reduction Partial Differential Equation

We apply the theory of Lie symmetries in order to study a fourth-order $1+2$ evolutionary partial differential equation which has been proposed for the image processing noise reduction. In particular we determine the Lie point symmetries for the specific 1+2 partial differential equations and we apply the invariant functions to determine similarity solutions. For the static solutions we observe that the reduced fourth-order ordinary differential equations are reduced to second-order ordinary differential equations which are maximally symmetric. Finally, nonstatic closed-form solutions are also determined.

Conservation laws and Exact Solutions in Brans-Dicke Cosmology with a Scalar Field

Scalar-tensor theories have drawn the attention of cosmologist for the past few years because they can provide mechanism to explain the observable phenomena. Moreover, the results of scalar-tensor theories can be applied in higher-order theories of gravity. In this work, we consider a Brans-Dicke scalar field cosmological model that includes a second scalar field minimally coupled to gravity. For the second scalar field we consider the two cases that there exist and there is not any interaction with the Brans-Dicke scalar field. For the two models of our consideration we prove the existence of scaling and de Sitter solutions. Furthermore, we perform an Obsiannikov's classification for the field equations, where we find all the point and contact transformations which leave the gravitational Action Integral invariant. Conservation laws are determined and we show how these can be applied to infer about the integrability of the cosmological models and find new analytic solutions.

Constructing the CKVs of Bianchi III and V spacetimes

We determine the conformal algebra of Bianchi III and Bianchi V spacetimes or, equivalently, we determine all Bianchi III and Bianchi V spacetimes which admit a proper conformal Killing vector. The algorithm that we use has been developed in Class. Quantum. Grav. 15, 2909 (1998) and concerns the computation of the CKVs of decomposable spacetimes. The main point of this method is that a decomposable space admits a CKV if the reduced space admits a gradient homothetic vector the latter being possible only if the reduced space is flat or a space of constant curvature. We apply this method in a stepwise manner starting from the two dimensional spacetime which admits an infinite number of CKVs and we construct step by step the Bianchi III and V spacetimes by assuming that CKVs survive as we increase the dimension of the space. We find that there is only one Bianchi III and one Bianchi V spacetime which admit at maximum one proper CKV. In each case we determine the conformal Killing vector and the corresponding conformal factor. As an application in the spacetimes we found we study the kinematics of the comoving observers and the dynamics of the corresponding cosmological fluid. As a second application we determine in these spacetimes generators of the Lie symmetries of the wave equation.

Dynamics of Einstein-Aether Scalar field Cosmology

We study the cosmological evolution of the field equations in the context of Einstein-Aether cosmology by including a scalar field in a spatially flat Friedmann--Lema\^ıtre--Robertson--Walker spacetime. Our analysis is separated into two separate where a pressureless fluid source is included or absent. In particular, we determine the critical points of the field equations and we study the stability of the specific solutions. The limit of general relativity is fully recovered, while the dynamical system admits de Sitter solutions which can describe the past inflationary era and the future late-time attractor. Results for generic scalar field potentials are presented while some numerical behaviours are given for specific potential forms.

Dynamics of nonlinear interacting dark energy models

We investigate the cosmological dynamics of interacting dark energy models in which the interaction function is a nonlinear in terms of the energy densities. Considering explicitly the interaction between a pressureless dark matter and a scalar field, minimally coupled to Einstein gravity, we explore the dynamics of the spatially flat FLRW universe for the exponential potential of the scalar field.. We perform the stability analysis for the three nonlinear interaction models of our consideration through the analysis of critical points and we investigate the cosmological parameters and we discuss the physical behaviour at the critical points. From the analysis of the critical points we find a number of possibilities that include the stable late time accelerated solution, $w$CDM-like solution, radiation-like solution and moreover the unstable inflationary solution as well.

One-dimensional optimal system for 2D Rotating Ideal Gas

We derive the one-dimensional optimal system for a system of three partial differential equations which describe the two-dimensional rotating ideal gas with polytropic parameter $γ>2.$ The Lie symmetries and the one-dimensional optimal system are determined for the nonrotating and rotating systems. We compare the results and we found that when there is no Coriolis force the system admits eight Lie point symmetries, while the rotating system admits seven Lie point symmetries. Consequently the two systems are not algebraic equivalent as in the case of $γ=2~$ which was found by previous studies. For the one-dimensional optimal system we determine all the Lie invariants, while we demonstrate our results by reducing the system of partial differential equations into a system of first-order ordinary differential equations which can be solved by quadratures.

Lie symmetries are applied to classify the source of the magnetic field for the Pulsar equation near to the surface of the neutron star. We find that there are six possible different admitted Lie algebras. We apply the corresponding Lie invariants to reduce the Pulsar equation close to the surface to an ordinary differential equation. This equation is solved either with the use of Lie symmetries or the application of the ARS algorithm for singularity analysis to write the analytic solution as a Laurent expansion. These solutions are called inner solutions.

The equation depends on the functional form of $f\left( R\right) $. We select to work with four specific functions of $f\left( R\right) $, in which the field equations for the classical models are integrable and solvable through quadratures. For these models, we determine similarity solutions for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation by determine Lie-Bäcklund transformations. In addition we show how the classical limit is recovered by the similarity solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation.

Static Spherically Symmetric Einstein-aether models II: Integrability and the Modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff approach

We investigate the existence of analytic solutions for the field equations in the Einstein-æther theory for a static spherically symmetric spacetime and provide a detailed dynamical system analysis of the field equations. In particular, we investigate if the gravitational field equations in the Einstein-æther model in the static spherically symmetric spacetime possesses the Painlevè property, so that an analytic explicit integration can be performed. We find that analytic solutions can be presented in terms of Laurent expansion only when the matter source consists of a perfect fluid with linear equation of state (EoS) $μ=μ_{0}+\left( \texttt{h} -1\right) p,~\texttt{h} >1$. In order to study the field equations we apply the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) approach and other approaches. We find that the relativistic TOV equations are drastically modified in Einstein-æther theory, and we explore the physical implications of this modification. We study perfect fluid models with a scalar field with an exponential potential. We discuss all of the equilibrium points and discuss their physical properties.

Consequently, the field equations to admit quadratic conservation laws given by Noether's Theorem. We find three new integrable $f\left(R\right) $ models, for which with the application of the conservation laws we reduce the field equations to a system of two first-order ordinary differential equations. For each model we study the evolution of the cosmological fluid. Classical and Quantum Solutions in Brans-Dicke Cosmology with a Perfect Fluid

We consider the application of group invariant transformations in order to constrain a flat isotropic and homogeneous cosmological model, containing of a Brans-Dicke scalar field and a perfect fluid with a constant equation of state parameter $w$, where the latter is not interacting with the scalar field in the gravitational action integral. The requirement that the Wheeler-DeWitt equation be invariant under one-parameter point transformations provides us with two families of power-law potentials for the Brans-Dicke field, in which the powers are functions of the Brans-Dicke parameter $ω_{BD}$ and the parameter $w$. The existence of the Lie symmetry in the Wheeler-DeWitt equation is equivalent to the existence of a conserved quantity in field equations and with oscillatory terms in the wavefunction of the universe. This enables us to solve the field equations. For a specific value of the conserved quantity, we find a closed-form solution for the Hubble factor, which is equivalent to a cosmological model in general relativity containing two perfect fluids. This provides us with different models for specific values of the parameters $ω_{BD},$ and $w$. Finally, the results hold for the specific case where the Brans-Dicke parameter $ω_{BD}$ is zero, that is, for the O'Hanlon massive dilaton theory, and consequently for $f\left( R\right) $ gravity in the metric formalism.

Evolution and Dynamics of a Matter creation model

In a flat Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) geometry, we consider the expansion of the universe powered by the gravitationally induced `adiabatic' matter creation. To demonstrate how matter creation works well with the expanding universe, we have considered a general creation rate and analyzed this rate in the framework of dynamical analysis. The dynamical analysis hints the presence of a non-singular universe (without the big bang singularity) with two successive accelerated phases, one at the very early phase of the universe (i.e. inflation), and the other one describes the current accelerating universe, where this early, late accelerated phases are associated with an unstable fixed point (i.e. repeller) and a stable fixed (attractor) points, respectively. We have described this phenomena by analytic solutions of the Hubble function and the scale factor of the FLRW universe. Using Jacobi Last multiplier method, we have found a Lagrangian for this matter creation rate describing this scenario of the universe. To match with our early physics results, we introduce an equivalent dynamics driven by a single scalar field and discussed the associated observable parameters compared them with the latest PLANCK data sets. Finally, introducing the teleparallel modified gravity, we have established an equivalent gravitational theory in the framework of matter creation.

Exact solution of the Einstein-Skyrme model in a Kantowski-Sachs spacetime

We consider a Skyrme fluid with a constant radial profile in locally rotational Kantowski-Sachs spacetime. The Skyrme fluid is an anisotropic fluid with zero heat flux and with an equation of state parameter $w_{S}$ that $\left\vert w_{s}\right\vert \leq\frac{1}{3}$. From the Einstein field equations we define the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. For the last equation we perform a Lie symmetry classification and we determine the invariant solutions for the wavefunction of the model. Moreover from the Lie symmetries of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation we construct Noetherian conservation laws for the field equations which we use in order to write the solution in closed form. We show that all pf the cosmological parameters are expressed in terms of the scale factor of the two dimensional sphere of the Kantowski-Sachs spacetime. Finally from the application of Noether's theorem for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation we derive conservation laws for the wavefunction of the universe.

General Analytic Solutions of Scalar Field Cosmology with Arbitrary Potential

We present the solution space for the case of a minimally coupled scalar field with arbitrary potential in a FLRW metric. This is made possible due to the existence of a nonlocal integral of motion corresponding to the conformal Killing field of the two-dimensional minisuperspace metric. The case for both spatially flat and non flat are studied first in the presence of only the scalar field and subsequently with the addition of non interacting perfect fluids. It is verified that this addition does not change the general form of the solution, but only the particular expressions of the scalar field and the potential. The results are applied in the case of parametric dark energy models where we derive the scalar field equivalence solution for some proposed models in the literature.

Kantowski-Sachs Einstein-æther perfect fluid models

We investigate Kantowski-Sachs models in Einstein-æther theory with a perfect fluid source using the singularity analysis to prove the integrability of the field equations and dynamical system tools to study the evolution. We find an inflationary source at early times, and an inflationary sink at late times, for a wide region in the parameter space. The results by A. A. Coley, G. Leon, P. Sandin and J. Latta (JCAP 12, 010, 2015), are then re-obtained as particular cases. Additionally, we select other values for the non-GR parameters which are consistent with current constraints, getting a very rich phenomenology. In particular, we find solutions with infinite shear, zero curvature, and infinite matter energy density in comparison with the Hubble scalar. We also have stiff-like future attractors, anisotropic late-time attractors, or both, in some special cases. Such results are developed analytically, and then verified by numerics. Finally, the physical interpretation of the new critical points is discussed.

We solve the symmetry conditions in a geometric way and determine the general form of the symmetry vector and of the Noetherian conservation laws. We prove that the point symmetries are generated by the collineations of two (pseudo)metrics, which are defined in the spaces of independent and dependent variables. We demonstrate the general results in two special cases (a) a system of $m$ coupled Laplace equations and (b) the Klein-Gordon equation of a particle in the context of Generalized Uncertainty Principle. Noether symmetries and duality transformations in cosmology

We discuss the relation between Noether (point) symmetries and discrete symmetries for a class of minisuperspace cosmological models. We show that when a Noether symmetry exists for the gravitational Lagrangian then there exists a coordinate system in which a reversal symmetry exists. Moreover as far as concerns the scale-factor duality symmetry of the dilaton field, we show that it is related to the existence of a Noether symmetry for the field equations, and the reversal symmetry in the normal coordinates of the symmetry vector becomes scale-factor duality symmetry in the original coordinates. In particular the same point symmetry as also the same reversal symmetry exists for the Brans-Dicke- scalar field with linear potential while now the discrete symmetry in the original coordinates of the system depends on the Brans-Dicke parameter and it is a scale-factor duality when $ω_{BD}=1$. Furthermore, in the context of the O'Hanlon theory for $f\left( R\right) $-gravity, it is possible to show how a duality transformation in the minisuperspace can be used to relate different gravitational models.

Closed-form solutions of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in a scalar-vector field cosmological model by Lie symmetries

We apply as selection rule to determine the unknown functions of a cosmological model the existence of Lie point symmetries for the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of quantum gravity. Our cosmological setting consists of a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric having the scale factor $a(t)$, a scalar field with potential function $V(ϕ)$ minimally coupled to gravity and a vector field of its kinetic energy is coupled with the scalar field by a coupling function $f(ϕ)$. Then, the Lie symmetries of this dynamical system are investigated by utilizing the behavior of the corresponding minisuperspace under the infinitesimal generator of the desired symmetries. It is shown that by applying the Lie symmetry condition the form of the coupling function and also the scalar field potential function may be explicitly determined so that we are able to solve the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. Finally, we show how we can use the Lie symmetries in order to construct conservation laws and exact solutions for the field equations.

Dynamical analysis in scalar field cosmology

We give a general method to find exact cosmological solutions for scalar-field dark energy in the presence of perfect fluids. We use the existence of invariant transformations for the Wheeler De Witt (WdW) equation. We show that the existence of a point transformation under which the WdW equation is invariant is equivalent to the existence of conservation laws for the field equations, which indicates the existence of analytical solutions. We extend previous work by providing exact solutions for the Hubble parameter and the effective dark-energy equation of state parameter for cosmologies containing a combination of perfect fluid and a scalar field whose self-interaction potential is a power of hyperbolic functions. We find solutions explicitly when the perfect fluid is radiation or cold dark matter and determine the effects of non-zero spatial curvature. Using the Planck 2015 data, we determine the evolution of the effective equation of state of the dark energy. Finally, we study the global dynamics using dimensionless variables. We find that if the current cosmological model is Liouville integrable (admits conservation laws) then there is a unique stable point which describes the de-Sitter phase of the universe.

Scalar field cosmology modified by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

We consider quintessence scalar field cosmology in which the Lagrangian of the scalar field is modified by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle. Moreover, we consider a spatially flat Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker spacetime (FLRW), and we derive the gravitational field equations. We show that the modified equation of state parameter $w_{GUP}$ can cross the phantom divide line; that is $w_{GUP}<-1$. Furthermore, we derive the field equations in the dimensionless parameters, the dynamical system which arises is a singular perturbation system in which we study the existence of the fixed points in the slow manifold. Finally, we perform numerical simulations for some well known models and we show that for these models with the specific initial conditions, the parameter $w_{GUP}$ crosses the phantom barrier.

This geometric method is applied in order the two and three dimensional Newtonian dynamical systems to be classified in relation to the point symmetries; to generalize the Newtonian Kepler-Ermakov system in Riemannian spaces; to study the symmetries between classical and quantum systems and to investigate the geometric origin of the Type II hidden symmetries for the homogeneous heat equation and for the Laplace equation in Riemannian spaces. In the case the PDE is linear on the first derivatives we show that the Lie point symmetries are given by the conformal algebra of the metric modulo a constraint involving the linear part of the PDE. Important elements in this class are the Klein--Gordon equation and the Laplace equation. We apply the general results and determine the Lie point symmetries of these equations in various general classes of Riemannian spaces. Finally we study the type II\ hidden symmetries of the wave equation in a Riemannian space with a Lorenzian metric.

Dynamical symmetries and observational constraints in scalar field cosmology

We propose to use dynamical symmetries of the field equations, in order to classify the dark energy models in the context of scalar field (quintessence or phantom) FLRW cosmologies. Practically, symmetries provide a useful mathematical tool in physical problems since they can be used to simplify a given system of differential equations as well as to determine the integrability of the physical system. The requirement that the field equations admit dynamical symmetries results in two potentials one of which is the well known Unified Dark Matter (UDM) potential and another new potential. For each hyperbolic potential we obtain the corresponding analytic solution of the field equations. The proposed analysis suggests that the requirement of the contact symmetry appears to be very competitive to other independent tests used to probe the functional form of a given potential and thus the associated nature of dark energy. Finally, in order to test the viability of the above scalar field models we perform a joint likelihood analysis using some of the latest cosmological data.

Invariant solutions and Noether symmetries in Hybrid Gravity

Symmetries play a crucial role in physics and, in particular, the Noether symmetries are a useful tool both to select models motivated at a fundamental level, and to find exact solutions for specific Lagrangians. In this work, we consider the application of point symmetries in the recently proposed metric-Palatini Hybrid Gravity in order to select the $f({\cal R})$ functional form and to find analytical solutions for the field equations and for the related Wheeler-DeWitt (WDW) equation. We show that, in order to find out integrable $f({\cal R})$ models, conformal transformations in the Lagrangians are extremely useful. In this context, we explore two conformal transformations of the forms $dτ=N(a) dt$ and $dτ=N(ϕ) dt$. For the former conformal transformation, we found two cases of $f({\cal R})$ functions where the field equations admit Noether symmetries. In the second case, the Lagrangian reduces to a Brans-Dicke-like theory with a general coupling function. For each case, it is possible to transform the field equations by using normal coordinates to simplify the dynamical system and to obtain exact solutions. Furthermore, we perform quantization and derive the WDW equation for the minisuperspace model. The Lie point symmetries for the WDW equation are determined and used to find invariant solutions.

Conformally related metrics and Lagrangians and their physical interpretation in cosmology

Conformally related metrics and Lagrangians are considered in the context of scalar-tensor gravity cosmology. After the discussion of the problem, we pose a lemma in which we show that the field equations of two conformally related Lagrangians are also conformally related if and only if the corresponding Hamiltonian vanishes. Then we prove that to every non-minimally coupled scalar field, we may associate a unique minimally coupled scalar field in a conformally related space with an appropriate potential. The latter result implies that the field equations of a non-minimally coupled scalar field are the same at the conformal level with the field equations of the minimally coupled scalar field. This fact is relevant in order to select physical variables among conformally equivalent systems. Finally, we find that the above propositions can be extended to a general Riemannian space of n-dimensions.

The reduction of Laplace equation in certain Riemannian spaces and the resulting Type II hidden symmetries

We prove a general theorem which allows the determination of Lie symmetries of Laplace equation in a general Riemannian space using the conformal group of the space. Algebraic computing is not necessary. We apply the theorem in the study of the reduction of Laplace equation in certain classes of Riemannian spaces which admit a gradient Killing vector, a gradient Homothetic vector and a special Conformal Killing vector. In each reduction we identify the source of Type II hidden symmetries. We find that in general the Type II hidden symmetries of Laplace equation are directly related to the transition of the CKVs from the space where the original equation is defined to the space where the reduced equation resides. In particular we consider the reduction of Laplace equation (i.e. the wave equation) in Minkowski space and obtain the results of all previous studies in a straightforward manner. We consider the reduction of Laplace equation in spaces which admit Lie point symmetries generated from a non gradient HV and a proper CKV and we show that the reduction with these vectors does not produce Type II hidden symmetries. We apply the results to General Relativity and consider the reduction of Laplace equation in locally rotational symmetric space times (LRS) and in algebraically special vacuum solutions of Einstein's equations which admit a homothetic algebra acting simply transitively. In each case we determine the Type II hidden symmetries.

Type II hidden symmetries for the homogeneous heat equation in some general classes of Riemannian spaces

We study the reduction of the heat equation in Riemannian spaces which admit a gradient Killing vector, a gradient homothetic vector and in Petrov Type D,N,II and Type III space-times. In each reduction we identify the source of the Type II hidden symmetries. More specifically we find that a) If we reduce the heat equation by the symmetries generated by the gradient KV the reduced equation is a linear heat equation in the nondecomposable space. b) If we reduce the heat equation via the symmetries generated by the gradient HV the reduced equation is a Laplace equation for an appropriate metric. In this case the Type II hidden symmetries are generated from the proper CKVs. c) In the Petrov spacetimes the reduction of the heat equation by the symmetry generated from the nongradient HV gives PDEs which inherit the Lie symmetries hence no Type II hidden symmetries appear. We apply the general results to cases in which the initial metric is specified. We consider the case that the irreducible part of the decomposed space is a space of constant nonvanishing curvature and the case of the spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker space time used in Cosmology. In each case we give explicitly the Type II hidden symmetries provided they exist.

Generalizing the autonomous Kepler Ermakov system in a Riemannian space

We generalize the two dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical system to three dimensions using the sl(2,R) invariance of Noether symmetries and determine all three dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical systems which are Liouville integrable via Noether symmetries. Subsequently we generalize the autonomous Kepler Ermakov system in a Riemannian space which admits a gradient homothetic vector by the requirements (a) that it admits a first integral (the Riemannian Ermakov invariant) and (b) it has sl(2,R) invariance. We consider both the non-Hamiltonian and the Hamiltonian systems. In each case we compute the Riemannian Ermakov invariant and the equations defining the dynamical system. We apply the results in General Relativity and determine the autonomous Hamiltonian Riemannian Kepler Ermakov system in the spatially flat Friedman Robertson Walker spacetime. We consider a locally rotational symmetric (LRS) spacetime of class A and discuss two cosmological models. The first cosmological model consists of a scalar field with exponential potential and a perfect fluid with a stiff equation of state. The second cosmological model is the f(R) modified gravity model of Λ_{bc}CDM. It is shown that in both applications the gravitational field equations reduce to those of the generalized autonomous Riemannian Kepler Ermakov dynamical system which is Liouville integrable via Noether integrals.

Lie point symmetries of a general class of PDEs: The heat equation

We give two theorems which show that the Lie point and the Noether symmetries of a second-order ordinary differential equation of the form (D/(Ds))(((Dx^{i}(s))/(Ds)))=F(x^{i}(s),x^{j}(s)) are subalgebras of the special projective and the homothetic algebra of the space respectively. We examine the possible extension of this result to partial differential equations (PDE) of the form A^{ij}u_{ij}-F(x^{i},u,u_{i})=0 where u(x^{i}) and u_{ij} stands for the second partial derivative. We find that if the coefficients A^{ij} are independent of u(x^{i}) then the Lie point symmetries of the PDE form a subgroup of the conformal symmetries of the metric defined by the coefficients A^{ij}. We specialize the study to linear forms of F(x^{i},u,u_{i}) and write the Lie symmetry conditions for this case. We apply this result to two cases. The wave equation in an inhomogeneous medium for which we derive the Lie symmetry vectors and check our results with those in the literature. Subsequently we consider the heat equation with a flux in an n-dimensional Riemannian space and show that the Lie symmetry algebra is a subalgebra of the homothetic algebra of the space. We discuss this result in the case of de Sitter space time and in flat space.

Using Noether symmetries to specify f(R) gravity

A detailed study of the modified gravity, f(R) models is performed, using that the Noether point symmetries of these models are geometric symmetries of the mini superspace of the theory. It is shown that the requirement that the field equations admit Noether point symmetries selects definite models in a self-consistent way. As an application in Cosmology we consider the Friedman -Robertson-Walker spacetime and show that the only cosmological model which is integrable via Noether point symmetries is the $(R^{b}-2Λ) ^{c}$ model, which generalizes the Lambda Cosmology. Furthermore using the corresponding Noether integrals we compute the analytic form of the main cosmological functions.

Lie and Noether symmetries of geodesic equations and collineations

The Lie symmetries of the geodesic equations in a Riemannian space are computed in terms of the special projective group and its degenerates (affine vectors, homothetic vector and Killing vectors) of the metric. The Noether symmetries of the same equations are given in terms of the homothetic and the Killing vectors of the metric. It is shown that the geodesic equations in a Riemannian space admit three linear first integrals and two quadratic first integrals. We apply the results in the case of Einstein spaces, the Schwarzschild spacetime and the Friedman Robertson Walker spacetime. In each case the Lie and the Noether symmetries are computed explicitly together with the corresponding linear and quadratic first integrals.

Three fluid cosmological model using Lie and Noether symmetries

We employ a three fluid model in order to construct a cosmological model in the Friedmann Robertson Walker flat spacetime, which contains three types of matter dark energy, dark matter and a perfect fluid with a linear equation of state. Dark matter is described by dust and dark energy with a scalar field with potential V(ϕ). In order to fix the scalar field potential we demand Lie symmetry invariance of the field equations, which is a model-independent assumption. The requirement of an extra Lie symmetry selects the exponential scalar field potential. The further requirement that the analytic solution is invariant under the point transformation generated by the Lie symmetry eliminates dark matter and leads to a quintessence and a phantom cosmological model containing a perfect fluid and a scalar field. Next we assume that the Lagrangian of the system admits an extra Noether symmetry. This new assumption selects the scalar field potential to be exponential and forces the perfect fluid to be stiff. Furthermore the existence of the Noether integral allows for the integration of the dynamical equations. We find new analytic solutions to quintessence and phantom cosmologies which contain all three fluids. Using these solutions one is able to compute analytically all main cosmological functions, such as the scale factor, the scalar field, the Hubble expansion rate, the deceleration parameter etc.

Two dimensional dynamical systems which admit Lie and Noether symmetries

We prove two theorems which relate the Lie point symmetries and the Noether symmetries of a dynamical system moving in a Riemannian space with the special projective group and the homothetic group of the space respectively. The theorems are applied to classify the two dimensional Newtonian dynamical systems, which admit a Lie point/Noether symmetry. Two cases are considered, the non-conservative and the conservative forces. The use of the results is demonstrated for the Kepler - Ermakov system, which in general is non-conservative and for potentials similar to the Hènon Heiles potential. Finally it is shown that in a FRW background with no matter present, the only scalar cosmological model which is integrable is the one for which 3-space is flat and the potential function of the scalar field is exponential. It is important to note that in all applications the generators of the symmetry vectors are found by reading the appropriate entry in the relevant tables.
