Shifted quantum groups via critical stable envelopes

Given a symmetric quiver with potential, we develop a geometric construction of shifted Yangians acting on the critical cohomologies of antidominantly framed quiver varieties with extended potentials, using the $R$-matrices constructed from critical stable envelopes. We relate such Reshetikhin type Yangians to Drinfeld type Yangians arising from critical cohomological Hall algebras. Several detailed examples, including the trivial, Jordan, and tripled Jordan quivers are explicitly computed. For symmetric quiver varieties with potentials, by using the smallness property of their affinization maps, we derive explicit formulas for quantum multiplication by divisors in terms of Casimir elements of the associated Lie (super)algebras, extending results from Nakajima quiver varieties to the critical setting. A similar formula in the antidominantly framed case is also obtained, which includes Hilbert schemes of points on $\mathbb C^3$ as examples.

Symmetric quiver varieties and critical stable envelopes

Symmetric quiver varieties with potentials are natural generalizations of Nakajima quiver varieties, and their equivariant critical cohomologies provide more flexible settings for geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we study their geometric properties and show that they behave like universally deformed Nakajima quiver varieties. Based on this, we provide a new proof of the existence of critical stable envelopes on them. Following an idea of Nakajima, we give a sheaf theoretic interpretation of critical stable envelopes by the hyperbolic restriction in the affinization of symmetric quiver varieties. The associativity of hyperbolic restrictions implies the triangle lemma of critical stable envelopes.

Stable envelopes for critical loci

This is the first in a sequence of papers devoted to stable envelopes in critical cohomology and critical $K$-theory for symmetric GIT quotients with potentials and related geometries, and their applications to geometric representation theory and enumerative geometry. In this paper, we construct critical stable envelopes and establish their general properties, including compatibility with dimensional reductions, specializations, Hall products, and other geometric constructions. In particular, for tripled quivers with canonical cubic potentials, the critical stable envelopes reproduce those on Nakajima quiver varieties. These set up foundations for applications in subsequent papers.

Quantum difference equation for Nakajima varieties

For an arbitrary Nakajima quiver variety $X$, we construct an analog of the quantum dynamical Weyl group acting in its equivariant K-theory. The correct generalization of the Weyl group here is the fundamental groupoid of a certain periodic locally finite hyperplane arrangement in $Pic(X)\otimes {\mathbb{C}}$. We identify the lattice part of this groupoid with the operators of quantum difference equation for $X$. The cases of quivers of finite and affine type are illustrated by explicit examples.

GW/PT descendent correspondence via vertex operators

We propose an explicit formula for the GW/PT descendent correspondence in the stationary case for nonsingular projective 3-folds. The formula, written in terms of vertex operators, is found by studying the 1-leg geometry. We prove the proposal for all nonsingular projective toric 3-folds. An application to the Virasoro constraints for the stationary descendent theory of stable pairs will appear in a sequel.

Lectures on K-theoretic computations in enumerative geometry

These are notes from my lectures on quantum K-theory of Nakajima quiver varieties and K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory of threefolds given at Columbia and Park City Mathematics Institute. They contain an introduction to the subject and a number of new results. In particular, we prove the main conjecture of arXiv:hep-th/0412021 and the conjecture of arXiv:1404.2323 in the simplest case of reduced smooth curves. We also prove the the absence of quantum corrections to the capped vertex with descendents for sufficiently large framing (and polarization), which is a property we call large framing vanishing. The shift operators for minuscule shift are shown to be given by qKZ operators, which is a K-theoretic analog of the result of arXiv:1211.1287.

Membranes and Sheaves

Our goal in this paper is to discuss a conjectural correspondence between enumerative geometry of curves in Calabi-Yau 5-folds $Z$ and 1-dimensional sheaves on 3-folds $X$ that are embedded in $Z$ as fixed points of certain $\mathbb{C}^\times$-actions. In both cases, the enumerative information is taken in equivariant $K$-theory, where the equivariance is with respect to all automorphisms of the problem. In Donaldson-Thomas theories, one sums up over all Euler characteristics with a weight $(-q)^χ$, where $q$ is a parameter, informally referred to as the boxcounting parameter. The main feature of the correspondence is that the 3-dimensional boxcounting parameter $q$ becomes in $5$ dimensions the equivariant parameter for the $\mathbb{C}^\times$-action that defines $X$ inside $Z$. The 5-dimensional theory effectively sums up the $q$-expansion in the Donaldson-Thomas theory. In particular, it gives a natural explanation of the rationality (in $q$) of the DT partition functions. Other expected as well as unexpected symmetries of the DT counts follow naturally from the 5-dimensional perspective. These involve choosing different $\mathbb{C}^\times$-actions on the same $Z$, and thus relating the same 5-dimensional theory to different DT problems. The important special case $Z=X \times \mathbb{C}^2$ is considered in detail in Sections 7 and 8. If $X$ is a toric Calabi-Yau threefold, we compute the theory in terms of a certain index vertex. We show the refined vertex found combinatorially by Iqbal, Kozcaz, and Vafa is a special case of the index vertex.

Five dimensional gauge theories and vertex operators

We study supersymmetric gauge theories in five dimensions, using their relation to the K-theory of the moduli spaces of torsion free sheaves. In the spirit of the BPS/CFT correspondence the partition function and the expectation values of the chiral, BPS protected observables are given by the matrix elements and more generally by the correlation functions in some q-deformed conformal field theory in two dimensions. We show that the coupling of the gauge theory to the bi-fundamental matter hypermultiplet inserts a particular vertex operator in this theory. In this way we get a generalization of the main result of \cite{CO} to $K$-theory. The theory of interpolating Macdonald polynomials is an important tool in our construction.

Quantum cohomology of the Springer resolution

Let G denote a complex, semisimple, simply-connected group. We identify the equivariant quantum differential equation for the cotangent bundle to the flag variety of G with the affine Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection of Cherednik and Matsuo. This recovers Kim's description of quantum cohomology of the flag variety itself as a limiting case. A parallel result is proven for resolutions of the Slodowy slices. Extension to arbitrary symplectic resolutions is discussed.

Quantum Calabi-Yau and Classical Crystals

We propose a new duality involving topological strings in the limit of large string coupling constant. The dual is described in terms of a classical statistical mechanical model of crystal melting, where the temperature is inverse of the string coupling constant. The crystal is a discretization of the toric base of the Calabi-Yau with lattice length $g_s$. As a strong evidence for this duality we recover the topological vertex in terms of the statistical mechanical probability distribution for crystal melting. We also propose a more general duality involving the dimer problem on periodic lattices and topological A-model string on arbitrary local toric threefolds. The $(p,q)$ 5-brane web, dual to Calabi-Yau, gets identified with the transition regions of rigid dimer configurations.

(Shifted) Macdonald Polynomials: q-Integral Representation and Combinatorial Formula

We extend some results about shifted Schur functions to the general context of shifted Macdonald polynomials. We obtain two explicit formulas for these polynomials: a $q$-integral representation and a combinatorial formula. Our main tool is a $q$-integral representation for ordinary Macdonald polynomials. We also discuss duality for shifted Macdonald polynomials and Jack degeneration of these polynomials.
