Ab initio charge form factors and radii of light isoscalar nuclei: Role of the two-body charge density

We make \textit{ab initio} predictions of charge form factors (FFs) and radii for the isoscalar nuclei $^6$Li and $^8$Be using the Jacobi-coordinate No-Core Shell Model. The calculations employ chiral semilocal momentum-space regularized two- and three-nucleon interactions, together with consistently regularized one- and two-nucleon electromagnetic charge operators. With the short-range charge density fixed to the $^4$He charge radius, the predicted FFs and the $^6$Li radius show good agreement with available experimental data. We find that two-nucleon charge density contributions are essential for describing the FFs, particularly at intermediate and large momentum transfers. Although their influence on the charge radii is limited, these contributions remain crucial for attaining accurate predictions. The present results highlight the importance of two-nucleon charge operators in addressing the long-standing underestimation of nuclear charge radii in \textit{ab initio} calculations based on modern chiral interactions.

Constraints on the Lambda-neutron interaction from charge-symmetry breaking of A=4 hypernuclei

We include the leading charge symmetry breaking contributions into the hyperon-nucleon interactions derived within chiral effective field theory up to next-to-leading order. Two low energy constants are determined using the experimentally known differences of Lambda separation energies of 4-Lambda-He and 4-Lambda-H. This allows one to predict the Lambda-neutron scattering lengths for the first time based on data. Various sources of uncertainty are discussed.

$A=4-7$ $Ξ$ hypernuclei based on interactions from chiral effective field theory

We investigate the existence of bound $Ξ$ \break states in systems with $A=4-7$ baryons using the Jacobi NCSM approach in combination with chiral NN and $Ξ$N interactions. We find three shallow bound states for the NNN$Ξ$ system (with $(J^π,T)=(1^+,0)$, $(0^+,1)$ and $(1^+,1)$) with quite similar binding energies. The $^5_Ξ\mathrm{H}(\frac{1}{2}^+,\frac{1}{2})$ and $^7_Ξ\mathrm{H}(\frac{1}{2}^+,\frac{3}{2})$ hypernuclei are also clearly bound with respect to the thresholds $^4\mathrm{He} + Ξ$ and $^6\mathrm{He} +Ξ$, respectively. The binding of all these $Ξ$ systems is predominantly due to the attraction of the chiral $Ξ$N potential in the $^{33}S_1$ channel. A perturbative estimation suggests that the decay widths of all the observed states could be rather small.

Implications of an increased $Λ$-separation energy of the hypertriton

Stimulated by recent indications that the binding energy of the hypertriton could be significantly larger than so far assumed, requirements of a more strongly bound $^3_Λ{\rm H}$ state for the hyperon-nucleon interaction and consequences for the binding energies of $A=4,5$ and $7$ hypernuclei are investigated. As basis a $YN$ potential derived at next-to-leading order in chiral effective field theory is employed, Faddeev and Yakubovsky equations are solved to obtain the corresponding $3$- and $4$-body binding energies, respectively, and the Jacobi no-core shell model is used for $^5_Λ$He and $^7_Λ$Li. It is found that the spin-singlet $Λp$ interaction would have to be much more attractive which can be, however, accommodated within the bounds set by the available $Λp$ scattering data. The binding energies of the $^4_Λ{\rm He}$ hypernucleus are predicted to be closer to the empirical values than for $YN$ interactions that produce a more weakly bound $^3_Λ{\rm H}$. The quality of the description of the separation energy and excitation spectrum for $^7_Λ$Li remains essentially unchanged.

Predictions for charmed nuclei based on $Y_c N$ forces inferred from lattice QCD simulations

Charmed nuclei are investigated utilizing $Λ_c N$ and $Σ_c N$ interactions that have been extrapolated from lattice QCD simulations at unphysical masses of $m_π= 410$--$570$ MeV to the physical point using chiral effective field theory as guideline. Calculations of the energies of $Λ_c$ single-particle bound states for various charmed nuclei from $^{\ 5}_{Λ_c}$Li to $^{209}_{Λ_c}$Bi are performed using a perturbative many-body approach. This approach allows one to determine the finite nuclei $Λ_c$ self-energy from which the energies of the different bound states can be obtained. Though the $Λ_c N$ interaction inferred from the lattice results is only moderately attractive, it supports the existence of charmed nuclei. Already the lightest nucleus considered is found to be bound. The spin-orbit splitting of the p- and d-wave states turns out to be small, as in the case of single $Λ$ hypernuclei. Additional calculations based on the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations suggest that also $A=4$ systems involving a $Λ_c$ baryon are likely to be bound, but exclude a bound $^{\, 3}_{Λ_c}$He state.

Isospin breaking in pion-deuteron scattering and the pion-nucleon scattering lengths

In recent years, high-accuracy data for pionic hydrogen and deuterium have become the primary source of information on the pion-nucleon scattering lengths. Matching the experimental precision requires, in particular, the study of isospin-breaking corrections both in pion-nucleon and pion-deuteron scattering. We review the mechanisms that lead to the cancellation of potentially enhanced virtual-photon corrections in the pion-deuteron system, and discuss the subtleties regarding the definition of the pion-nucleon scattering lengths in the presence of electromagnetic interactions by comparing to nucleon-nucleon scattering. Based on the pi^{+/-} p channels we find for the virtual-photon-subtracted scattering lengths in the isospin basis a^{1/2}=(170.5 +/- 2.0) x 10^{-3} mpi^{-1} and a^{3/2}=(-86.5 +/- 1.8) x 10^{-3} mpi^{-1}.
