A stable method for 4D CT-based CFD simulation in the right ventricle of a TGA patient

The paper discusses a stabilization of a finite element method for the equations of fluid motion in a time-dependent domain. After experimental convergence analysis, the method is applied to simulate a blood flow in the right ventricle of a post-surgery patient with the transposition of the great arteries disorder. The flow domain is reconstructed from a sequence of 4D CT images. The corresponding segmentation and triangulation algorithms are also addressed in brief.

A greedy algorithm for the minimization of a ratio of same-index element sums from two positive arrays

Consider two ordered positive real number arrays of equal size. The problem is to find such set of indices of given size that the ratio of the sums of the array elements with those indices is minimized. In this work, in order to mitigate the exponential complexity of the brute force search, we present a greedy algorithm applied to the search of such an index set. The main result of the paper is the theorem that states that the algorithm eliminates from candidates all index sets that do not contain any elements from the greedily selected set. We additionally prove exactness for a particular case of a ratio of the sums of only two elements.

The method of solving a scalar initial value problem with a required tolerance

A new numerical method for solving a scalar ordinary differential equation with a given initial condition is introduced. The method is using a numerical integration procedure for an equivalent integral equation and is called in this paper an integrating method. Bound to specific constraints, the method returns an approximate solution assuredly within a given tolerance provided by a user. This makes it different from a large variety of single- and multi-step methods for solving initial value problems that provide results up to some undefined error in the form O(h^k), where h is a step size and k is concerned with the method's accuracy. Advantages and disadvantages of the method are presented. Some improvements in order to avoid the latter are also made. Numerical experiments support these theoretical results.
