Numerical verification of Littlewood's bounds for $\vert L(1,χ)\vert$

Let $L(s,χ)$ be the Dirichlet $L$-function associated to a non trivial primitive Dirichlet character $χ$ defined $\bmod\ q$, where $q$ is an odd prime. In this paper we introduce a fast method to compute $\vert L(1,χ) \vert$ using the values of Euler's $Γ$ function. We also introduce an alternative way of computing $\log Γ(x)$ and $ψ(x)= Γ^\prime/Γ(x)$,$x\in(0,1)$. Using such algorithms we numerically verify the classical Littlewood bounds and the recent Lamzouri-Li-Soundararajan estimates on $\vert L(1,χ) \vert$, where $χ$ runs over the non trivial primitive Dirichlet characters $\bmod\ q$, for every odd prime $q$ up to $10^7$. The programs used and the results here described are collected at the following address \url{http://www.math.unipd.it/~languasc/Littlewood_ineq.html}.

A Diophantine problem with a prime and three squares of primes

We prove that if $λ_1$, $λ_2$, $λ_3$ and $λ_4$ are non-zero real numbers, not all of the same sign, $λ_1 / λ_2$ is irrational, and $\varpi$ is any real number then, for any $\eps > 0$ the inequality $ \bigl|λ_1 p_1 + λ_2 p_2^2 + λ_3 p_3^2 + λ_4 p_4^2 + \varpi \bigr| \le \bigl(\max_j p_j \bigr)^{-1 / 18 + \eps} $ has infinitely many solution in prime variables $p_1$, ..., $p_4$

On a ternary Diophantine problem with mixed powers of primes

Let $1 < k < 33 / 29$. We prove that if $λ_1$, $λ_2$ and $λ_3$ are non-zero real numbers, not all of the same sign and that $λ_1 / λ_2$ is irrational and $\varpi$ is any real number, then for any $\eps > 0$ the inequality $ \bigl|λ_1 p_1 + λ_2 p_2^2 + λ_3 p_3^k + \varpi \bigr| \le \bigl(\max_j p_j \bigr)^{-(33 - 29 k) / (72 k) + \eps} $ has infinitely many solutions in prime variables $p_1$, ..., $p_k$.

On a Diophantine problem with one prime, two squares of primes and $s$ powers of two

We refine a result of W.P. Li and Wang on the values of the form $ λ_1p_1 + λ_2p_2^{2} + λ_3p_3^{2} + μ_1 2^{m_1} +...+ μ_s 2^{m_s}, $ where $p_1,p_2,p_3$ are prime numbers, $m_1,..., m_s$ are positive integers, $λ_1,λ_2,λ_{3}$ are nonzero real numbers, not all of the same sign,$λ_2 / λ_3$ is irrational and $λ_i/μ_i \in \Q$, for $i\in\{1,2,3\}$.
