Resonance widths for the molecular predissociation

We consider a semiclassical 2×22\times 2 matrix Schrödinger operator of the form P=−h2ΔI2+diag(V1(x),V2(x))+hR(x,hDx)P=-h^2Δ{\bf I}_2 + {\rm diag}(V_1(x), V_2(x)) +hR(x,hD_x), where V1,V2V_1, V_2 are real-analytic, V2V_2 admits a non degenerate minimum at 0, V1V_1 is non trapping at energy V2(0)=0V_2(0)=0, and R(x,hDx)=(rj,k(x,hDx))1≤j,k≤2R(x,hD_x)=(r_{j,k}(x,hD_x))_{1\leq j,k\leq 2} is a symmetric off-diagonal 2×22\times 2 matrix of first-order pseudodifferential operators with analytic symbols. We also assume that V1(0)>0V_1(0) >0. Then, denoting by e1e_1 the first eigenvalue of $-Δ+ \la V_2"(0)x,x\ra /2$, and under some ellipticity condition on r1,2r_{1,2} and additional generic geometric assumptions, we show that the unique resonance ρ1ρ_1 of PP such that ρ1=V2(0)+(e1+r2,2(0,0))h+O(h2)ρ_1 = V_2(0) + (e_1+r_{2,2}(0,0))h + {\mathcal O}(h^2) (as h→0+h\rightarrow 0_+) satisfies, ℑρ1=−hn0+(1−nΓ)/2f(h,ln⁡1h)e−2S/h, \Im ρ_1 = -h^{n_0+(1-n_Γ)/2}f(h,\ln\frac1{h})e^{-2S/h}, where f(h,ln⁡1h)∼∑0≤m≤ℓfℓ,mhℓ(ln⁡1h)mf(h,\ln\frac1{h}) \sim \sum_{0\leq m\leq\ell} f_{\ell,m}h^\ell(\ln\frac1{h})^m is a symbol with f0,0>0f_{0,0}>0, S>0S>0 is the so-called Agmon distance associated with the degenerate metric max⁡(0,min⁡(V1,V2))dx2\max(0, \min(V_1,V_2))dx^2, between 0 and {V1≤0}\{V_1\leq 0\}, and n0≥1n_0\geq 1, nΓ≥0n_Γ\geq 0 are integers that depend on the geometry.

Resonance widths in a case of multidimensional phase space tunneling

We consider a semiclassical 2×22\times 2 matrix Schrödinger operator of the form P=−h2ΔI2+diag(xn−μ,τV2(x))+hR(x,hDx)P=-h^2Δ{\bf I}_2 + {\rm diag}(x_n-μ, τV_2(x)) +hR(x,hD_x), where μμ and ττ are two small positive constants, V2V_2 is real-analytic and admits a non degenerate minimum at 0, and R=(rj,k(x,hDx))1≤j,k≤2R=(r_{j,k}(x,hD_x))_{1\leq j,k\leq 2} is a symmetric off-diagonal 2×22\times 2 matrix of first-order differential operators with analytic coefficients. Then, denoting by e1e_1 the first eigenvalue of $-Δ+ \la τV_2"(0)x,x\ra /2$, and under some ellipticity condition on r1,2=r2,1∗r_{1,2}=r_{2,1}^*, we show that, for any μμ sufficiently small, and for 0<τ≤τ(μ)0<τ\leqτ(μ) with some τ(μ)>0τ(μ)>0, the unique resonance ρρ of PP such that ρ=τV2(0)+(e1+r2,2(0,0))h+O(h2)ρ= τV_2(0) + (e_1+r_{2,2}(0,0))h + {\mathcal O}(h^2) (as h→0+h\rightarrow 0_+) satisfies, ℑρ=−h32f(h,ln⁡1h)e−2S/h, \Im ρ= -h^{\frac32}f(h,\ln\frac1{h})e^{-2S/h}, where f(h,ln⁡1h)∼∑0≤m≤ℓfℓ,mhℓ(ln⁡1h)mf(h,\ln\frac1{h}) \sim \sum_{0\leq m\leq\ell} f_{\ell,m}h^\ell(\ln\frac1{h})^m is a symbol with f0,0>0f_{0,0}>0, and SS is the imaginary part of the complex action along some convenient closed path containing (0,0)(0,0) and consisting of a union of complex nul-bicharacteristics of p1:=ξ2−xn−μp_1:=ξ^2 - x_n-μ and p2:=ξ2+τV2(x)p_2:=ξ^2 +τV_2(x) (broken instanton). This broken instanton is described in terms of the outgoing and incoming complex Lagrangian manifolds associated with p2p_2 at the point (0,0)(0,0), and their intersections with the characteristic set p1−1(0)p_1^{-1}(0) of p1p_1.
