The International Linear Collider: Report to Snowmass 2021

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This document brings the story of the ILC up to date, emphasizing its strong physics motivation, its readiness for construction, and the opportunity it presents to the US and the global particle physics community.

Nambu Dynamics and Hydrodynamics of Granular Material

On the basis of the intimate relation between Nambu dynamics and the hydrodynamics, the hydrodynamics on a non-commutative space (obtained by the quantization of space), proposed by Nambu in his last work, is formulated as ``hydrodynamics of granular material''. In Part 1, the quantization of space is done by Moyal product, and the hydrodynamic simulation is performed for the so obtained two dimensional fluid, which flows inside a canal with an obstacle. The obtained results differ between two cases in which the size of a fluid particle is zero and finite. The difference seems to come from the behavior of vortices generated by an obstacle. In Part 2 of quantization, considering vortex as a string, two models are examined; one is the ``hybrid model'' in which vortices interact with each other by exchanging Kalb-Ramond fields (a generalization of stream functions), and the other is the more general ``string field theory'' in which Kalb-Ramond field is one of the excitation mode of string oscillations. In the string field theory, Altarelli-Parisi type evolution equation is introduced. It is expected to describe the response of distribution function of vortex inside a turbulence, when the energy scale is changed. The behaviour of viscosity differs in the string theory, being compared with the particle theory, so that Landau theory of fluid to introduce viscosity may be modified. In conclusion, the hydrodynamics and the string theory are almost identical theories. It should be noted, however, that the string theory to reproduce a given hydrodynamics is not a usual string theory.

A Formalism Useful to Study Beyond Squeezing in Non-linear Quantum Optics

A general formalism is given in quantum optics within a ring cavity, in which a non-linear material is stored. The method is Feynman graphical one, expressing the transition amplitude or S-matrix in terms of propagators and vertices. The propagator includes the additional damping effect via the non-linear material as well as the reflection and penetration effects by mirrors. Possible application of this formalism is discussed, in estimating the averaged number of produced photons, Husimi function, and the observables to examine beyond the squeezing mechanism of photons.

A simulation of hydrodynamics on non-commutative space

A simulation of the hydrodynamics on the two dimensional non-commutative space is performed, in which the space coordinates $(x, y)$ are non-commutative, satisfying the commutation relation $[x, y]=i θ$. The Navier-Stokes equation has an extra force term which reflects the non-commutativity of the space, being proportional to $θ^2$. This parameter $θ$ is related to the minimum size of fluid particles which is implied by the uncertainty principle, $Δx Δy \ge θ/2$. To see the effect of this parameter on the flow, following situation is considered. An obstacle placed in the middle of the stream, separates the flow into small slit and large slit, but the flow is joined afterwards in the down stream. For the Reynolds number 700, the behavior of the flows with and without $θ$ is observed to differ, and the difference is seen to be correlated to the difference of the activity of vortices in the down stream. The oscillation of the flow rate at the small slit diminishes after the certain time in the usual flow when the "two attached eddies" appear. In the non-commutative flow this two attached eddies appear from the beginning and the behavior of the flows does not fluctuate largely. The irregularity in the flow existing in the beginning disappears after the certain time.

Construction of a Model of Monopolium and its Search via Multi-Photon Channels at LHC

A model of monopolium is constructed based on an electromagnetic dual formulation of Zwanziger and lattice gauge theory. To cope with the strong coupling nature of the magnetic charge, for which the monopole is confined, $ U(1) $ lattice gauge theory is applied. The monopole is assumed to have a finite-sized inner structure based on a 't Hooft-Polyakov like solution in which the magnetic charge is uniformly distributed on the surface of a sphere. The monopole and antimonopole potential becomes linear plus Coulomb outside the sphere and is constant inside. Numerical estimation gives two kinds of solutions: One which has a small binding energy, and hence the para-($ J=0 $) and ortho-($ J=1 $) monopoliums have degenerate masses. For the parameter choices considered, they both have $ \mathcal{O}(1-10) $ TeV masses and are very short-lived. The other solution has a small monopole mass and large binding energy, with an illustrative example of parameter choices giving a 750 GeV para-monopolium and 1.4 TeV ortho-monopolium. The production rate of the former is one order of magnitude smaller than the announced enhancement, but they may be the target of future LHC searches and the 100 TeV colliders.

Application of Kawaguchi Lagrangian formulation to string theory

String-scalar duality proposed by Y. Hosotani and membrane-scalar duality by A. Sugamoto are reexamined in the context of Kawaguchi Lagrangian formulation. The characteristic feature of this formulation is the indifferent nature of fields and parameters. Therefore even the exchange of roles between fields and parameters is possible. In this manner, dualities above can be proved easily. Between Kawaguchi metrics of the dually related theories, a simple relation is found. As an example of the exchange between fermionic fields and parameters, a replacement of the role of Grassmann parameters of the 2-dimensional superspace by the 9th component of Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond (NSR) fermions is studied in superstring model. Compactification is also discussed in this model.

Hydrodynamics on non-commutative space --A step toward hydrodynamics of granular materials--

Hydrodynamics on non-commutative space is studied based on a formulation of hydrodynamics by Y. Nambu in terms of Poisson and Nambu brackets. Replacing these brackets by Moyal brackets with a parameter $θ$, a new hydrodynamics on non-commutative space is derived. It may be a step toward to find the hydrodynamics of granular materials whose minimum volume is given by $θ$. To clarify this minimum volume, path integral quantization and uncertainty relation of Nambu dynamics are examined.

Is it possible to unify three kinds of Dark Matters into a Kaluza-Klein Neutrino?

A unified theory of including all kinds of dark matters into a single species (field) is discussed. In particular, it is considered that the Warm Dark matter (WDM), the existence of which may be required by the detailed $N$-body simulations of galaxies using the $Λ$CDM model, is the right-handed neutrino, the Hot Dark Matter (HDM) is the left-handed neutrino, and the Cold Dark Matter (CDM) is the first Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode of neutrino. The study on how to detect the first KK neutrino mode as CDM by LHC, SuperK, and IceCube is also explained. Not only these detectors but also the recent experiments, such as DAMA/LIBRA, PAMELA, XENON100, and XMASS as well as the various satellite detectors including Planck should be examined.

Factorization of number into prime numbers viewed as decay of particle into elementary particles conserving energy

Number theory is considered, by proposing quantum mechanical models and string-like models at zero and finite temperatures, where the factorization of number into prime numbers is viewed as the decay of particle into elementary particles conserving energy. In these models, energy of a particle labeled by an integer $n$ is assumed or derived to being proportional to $\ln n$. The one-loop vacuum amplitudes, the free energies and the partition functions at finite temperature of the string-like models are estimated and compared with the zeta functions. The $SL(2, {\bf Z})$ modular symmetry, being manifest in the free energies is broken down to the additive symmetry of integers, ${\bf Z}_{+}$, after interactions are turned on. In the dynamical model existing behind the zeta function, prepared are the fields labeled by prime numbers. On the other hand the fields in our models are labeled, not by prime numbers but by integers. Nevertheless, we can understand whether a number is prime or not prime by the decay rate, namely by the corresponding particle can decay or can not decay through interactions conserving energy. Among the models proposed, the supersymmetric string-like model has the merit of that the zero point energies are cancelled and the energy levels may be stable against radiative corrections.

Pentaquark Baryons in String Theory

The recently observed pentaquark baryons $Θ^{+}$ and $Ξ^{--}$ are studied in the dual gravity theory of QCD. By developing a general formulation useful for studying the branched string web in a curved space, simple mass formulae of the pentaquark baryons are derived in the Maldacena prototype model for supersymmetric QCD and a more realistic model for ordinary QCD. Even though the approximations adopted here in deriving these formulae are extremely naive, the predicted values of the masses do not differ significantly from their experimental values. We thus conclude that this approach is promising for the purpose of obtaining a description of the observed masses of pentaquarks and of their extremely narrow decay widths. With the aim of constructing more reliable mass formulae, a preliminary sketch is given of how spin, the hyperfine interaction and parity are considered in the string picture.

Exciton in Matrix Formulation of Quantum Hall Effect

The quantum Hall effect is studied by introducing two different matrix variables for electrons and holes, having Chern-Simons type interactions. By generalizing the constraint condition proposed by Susskind to realize the Pauli's exclusion principle in this two component matrix model, the classical exciton solution having excitation of both quasi-electron and quasi-hole is obtained. The constraint condition is also solved quantum mechanically in the infinite-sized matrix case, giving the examples of the physical states. Using these quantum states, the corrections of the exciton energy, coming from the noncommutativity of space (Pauli principle) and from the quantum effects of the background state, are estimated in the lowest order perturbation expansion. As a result, the dispersion relation of exciton is obtained.

Inclusive dileptonic rare B decays with an extra generation of vector-like quarks

We investigate the leading effects of extending the Standard Model of electroweak interactions by an extra iso-singlet up- and down- type quark pair on various distributions and total branching ratio of the inclusive B-> X_s l^+ l^- (l =e,μ) rare B decays. The presence of the extra vector-like down quark $D$ results in the non-unitarity of the extended quark mixing matrix V, which in turn leads to b-> s FCNC at the tree level proportional to (V^\dagger V)_{sb}. On the other hand, the effective penguin and box vertex functions are sensitive to the mass of the extra iso-singlet up quark m_U. The experimental upper bound on BR(B-> X_s μ^+ μ^-) is used to constrain the parameters of the model. It is shown that the shapes of the differential branching ratio and forward-backward asymmetry distribution are very sensitive to the value of the model parameters. We also calculate the CP aymmetry distribution of the dileptonic decay in the vector-like quark model. It is shown that, for a typical choice of the model parameters, asymmetries up to around 10% can be achieved for certain values of the dilepton invariant mass.

Old Fashioned Duality for D-brane and String

Old fashioned duality used to derive the closed string field theory for magnetic vortex from the gauge theory with Higgs scalar, is applied to the string theories. The bosonic sring theory coupled to the Kalb-Ramond 2-form field is dually transformed to the 6-brane theory coupled to the 7-form field. The old fashioned dual transformation is also examined for the Type IIA and IIB superstrings. For this study, the string field theoretical treatment of the bosonic and fermionic strings is developped based on the reparametrization invariant formulation of strings by Marshall and Ramond. In order for the self-duality of the Type IIB superstring to appear, the following dual correspondence may happen: the dual transformation of the NS-NS field functional is the bosonization of the R-R one.

Production of Scalar Higgs and Pseudoscalar Higgs in Multi-Higgs Doublet Models at $γγ$ Colliders

We present the effects of heavy CP-even (H) and CP-odd (A) Higgs bosons on the production cross section of the process $γγ$ $\to t\bar{t}$ at the energy around the mass poles of the Higgs bosons. It is found that the interference between H and A with the small mass gap, as well as the ones between Higgs bosons and the continuum, contributes to the cross section, if the photon beams are polarized and if we observe the helicity of the top quarks. It is demonstrated in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the standard model that the H and A contributions can be sizable at future $γγ$ colliders for small value of $\tanβ$. The methods to measure the CP-parity of the Higgs boson are also presented. The statistical significances of detecting the Higgs signals and measuring the Higgs CP-parity are evaluated.

CP-odd WWZ couplings induced by vector-like quarks

A minimal extension of the standard model includes extra quarks with charges 2/3 and/or -1/3, whose left-handed and right-handed components are both SU(2) singlets. This model predicts new interactions of flavor-changing neutral current at the tree level, which also violate CP invariance. We study CP-odd anomalous couplings for the gauge bosons W, W, and Z induced by the new interactions at the one-loop level. These couplings become nonnegligible only if both an up-type and a down-type extra quarks are incorporated. Their form factors are estimated to be maximally of order $10^{-5}$. Such magnitudes are larger than those predicted in the standard model, though smaller than those in certain other models.

Genetic Algorithm for Lattice Gauge Theory. on SU(2) and U(1) on 4 dimensional lattice, how to hitchhike to thermal equilibrium state

Applying Genetic Algorithm for the Lattice Gauge Theory is formed to be an effective method to minimize the action of gauge field on a lattice. In 4 dimensions, the critical point and the Wilson loop behaviour of SU(2) lattice gauge theory as well as the phase transition of U(1) theory have been studied. The proper coding methodi has been developed in order to avoid the increase of necessary memory and the overload of calculation for Genetic Algorithm. How hichhikers toward equlibrium appear against kidnappers is clarified.

Stringy and Membranic Theory of Swimming of Micro-organisms

When the swimming of micro-organisms is viewed from the string and membrane theories coupled to the velocity field of the fluid, a number of interesting results are derived; 1) importance of the area (or volume) preserving algebra, 2) usefulness of the $N$-point Reggeon (membranic) amplitudes, and of the gas to liquid transition in case of the red tide issues, 3) close relation between the red tide issue and the generation of Einstein gravity, and 4) possible understanding of the three different swimming ways of micro-organisms from the singularity structure of the shape space.

Is the Condensation of Strings the Origin of Einstein Gravity ?

A mechanism of generating the metric is proposed, where the Kalb-Ramond symmetry existing in the topological BF theory is broken through the condensation of the string fields which are so introduced as to couple with the anti-symmetric tensor fields $B$, invariantly under the Kalb-Ramond symmetry. In the chiral decomposition of the local Lorentz group, the non-Abelian $B$ fields need to be generalized to the string fields. The mechanism of the condensation is discussed, viewing the confinement problem and the polymer physics.

Two-Form Gravity and the Generation of Space-Time

In the framework of the two-form gravity, which is classically equivalent to the Einstein gravity, the one-loop effective potential for the conformal factor of metric is calculated in the finite volume and in the finite temperature by choosing a temporal gauge condition. There appears a quartically divergent term which cannot be removed by the renormalization of the cosmological term and we find there is only one non-trivial minimum in the effective potential. If the cut-off scale has a physical meaning, \eg the Planck scale coming from string theory, this minimum might explain why the space-time is generated, \ie why the classical metric has a non-trivial value.
