Twisted endoscopy from a sheaf-theoretic perspective

The standard theory of endoscopy for real groups has two parallel formulations. The original formulation of Langlands and Shelstad relies on methods in harmonic analysis. The subsequent formulation of Adams, Barbasch and Vogan relies on sheaf-theoretic methods. The original formulation was extended by Kottwitz and Shelstad to twisted endoscopy. We extend the sheaf-theoretic formulation to the context of twisted endoscopy and provide applications for computing Arthur packets.

Fourier Eigenspaces of Waldspurger's Basis

In this paper we investigate invariant distributions on $p$-adic $\mathfrak{sp}_{2n}$ defined by Waldspurger in his 2001 tome and find the Fourier eigenspaces in their span. We prove that there is a single eigenvalue if $n$ can be represented as a sum of triangular numbers or is triangular itself and that none exist otherwise. We determine that the dimension of this lone eigenspace is equal to the number of noncommuting representations of $n$ as the sum of at most two triangular numbers. Each such representation corresponds to what we call a Lusztig distribution. These distributions belong to the generating set defined by Waldspurger and form a basis for the eigenspace. Finally, we show that the eigenspace contains a 1-dimensional subspace consisting of stable distributions when $n=2Δ$, $Δ$ a triangular number, but otherwise consists of distributions that are not stable.

Galois Actions on $\ell$-adic Local Systems and Their Nearby Cycles: A Geometrization of Fourier Eigendistributions on the $p$-adic Lie Algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2)$

In this thesis, two $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_\ell$-local systems, $\vphantom{\mathcal{E}}^\circ \mathcal{E}$ and $\vphantom{E}^\circ \mathcal{E}^\prime$ on the regular unipotent subvariety $\mathcal{U}_{0,K}$ of $p$-adic $\operatorname{SL}_2(K)$ are constructed. Making use of the equivalence between $\bar{\mathbb{Q}}_\ell$-local systems and $\ell$-adic representations of the étale fundamental group, we prove that these local systems are equivariant with respect to conjugation by $\operatorname{SL}_2(K)$ and that their nearby cycles, when taken with respect to appropriate integral models, descend to local systems on the regular unipotent subvariety of $\operatorname{SL}_2(k)$, $k$ the residue field of $K$. Distributions on $\operatorname{SL}_2(K)$ are then associated to $\vphantom{E}^\circ \mathcal{E}$ and $\vphantom{E}^\circ \mathcal{E}^\prime$ and we prove properties of these distributions. Specifically, they are admissible distributions in the sense of Harish-Chandra and, after being transferred to the Lie algebra, are linearly independent eigendistributions of the Fourier transform. Together, this gives a geometrization of important admissible invariant distributions on a nonabelian $p$-adic group in the context of the Local Langlands program.
