TauSpinner algorithms for including spin and New Physics effects in $\bar q q \rightarrow Z/γ^* \to ττ$ process

The possible anomalous New Physics contributions to dipole and weak dipole moments of the $τ$ lepton bring renewed interest in development and revisiting charge-parity violating signatures in $τ$-pair production in $Z$-boson decay at energies of the LHC. In this paper, we discuss effects of anomalous contributions to polarisation and spin correlations in the $\bar q q \to τ^+ τ^-$ production processes, with $τ$ decays included. Because of the complex nature of the resulting distributions, Monte Carlo techniques are useful, in particular of event reweighing with studied New Physics phenomena. Extensions of the Standard Model spin amplitudes, within Improved Born Approximation used for matrix element, are implemented in the TauSpinner program. This is mainly with $τ$ dipole and weak dipole moments in mind, but is applicable to arbitrary New Physics interactions, provided they can be encapsulated into the Standard Model $2 \to 2$ structure of matrix element extensions. Implementation allows one also to introduce arbitrary phase-shift between vector and axial-vector couplings of $Z$ boson to $τ$ leptons, which would have impact on observed transverse spin correlations. Basic formulas and algorithm principles are presented, together with distributions for spin correlation matrix. Numerical examples of impact on experimental signatures are shown in case of $τ^\pm \to ρ^\pm ν_τ\to π^\pm π^0 ν_τ$ decays. Information on how to use and configure the TauSpinner program is given in Appendix.

Decay of the Higgs boson $h\toτ^- τ^+\toπ^-ν_τ\,π^+{\bar ν}_τ$ for a non-Hermitian Yukawa interaction

The differential rate of the decay of the Higgs boson ($h$) to a pair of $τ$ leptons with their subsequent decay in the $τ^-\to π^- ν_τ$ and $τ^+\to π^+{\bar ν}_τ$ channels is studied. The Yukawa interaction between the Higgs boson and the $τ$ leptons is assumed to include scalar ($S$) and pseudoscalar ($PS$) couplings. Angular distributions of the pions in the $h\toτ^- τ^+\toπ^-ν_τ\,π^+{\bar ν}_τ$ decay are considered. For real values of the $S$ and $PS$ couplings, this decay is known to be a source of information on $\mathcal{CP}$ violation in the $h ττ$ interaction. In the present paper, the main attention is paid to a possible non-Hermiticity of this interaction. Influence of non-Hermiticity on the distribution of the angle between planes of the $ τ^- \to π^-ν_τ$ and $τ^+ \to π^+ {\bar ν}_τ$ decays, and distribution of the polar angle of one of the pions are analyzed. Asymmetries sensitive to parameters of $\mathcal{CP}$ violation and non-Hermiticity of $h ττ$ interaction are proposed.

Spin correlations in $τ$-lepton pair production due to anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments

We present a simple algorithm for the calculation of event weights embedding the effects of anomalous electric and magnetic dipole moments in simulation of $e^-e^+\to τ^-τ^+ (nγ)$ events, and the subsequent decay of the $τ$ leptons produced. The impact of these weights on the spin-correlation matrix and the total cross-section is taken into account. The algorithm is prepared to work in-situ the {\tt KKMC} Monte Carlo, without the need for introducing any external change to the generator libraries. As an example, $e^-e^+ \to τ^-τ^+ (nγ), \; τ^- \to ρ^- ν_τ\to π^- π^0 ν_τ, \ τ^+ \to ρ^+ \barν_τ\to π^+ π^0 \barν_τ$ events were simulated at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. The distributions of the acoplanarity angle between the planes spanned by the $π^- π^0$ and the $π^+ π^0$ momenta of respectively $ρ^-$ and $ρ^+$ decays and in the rest-frame of the entirely visible $ρ^-ρ^+$ system, are presented for different values of the coupling constants incorporating anomalous electric and magnetic dipole moments in the $τ^- τ^+ γ$ vertex.

Energy and angular distributions of the bottom quark in the electron-positron annihilation $e^+e^-\to b \, W^+ \, \bar{t}$

The distributions of the bottom quark in the process $e^+ e^- \to t \, \bar{t} \to b \, W^+ \, \bar{t}$ are considered at the $e^+ e^-$ energy corresponding to the first construction stage of the Compact Linear Collider. The cross sections of $e^+ e^- \to b \ldots$, as functions of the $b$-quark energy and angle with respect to the direction of the electron beam, are derived and calculated. The effects of physics beyond the Standard Model are included via the modified $γt \bar{t}$ and $Z t \bar{t}$ couplings which naturally appear in effective field theories. In addition to the cross sections, the energy and angular asymmetries are calculated. The dependence of these observables on the $e^+ e^-$ energy is calculated, and features of this dependence are investigated.

Angular distribution and asymmetries in the decay of the polarized charmed baryon $Λ_c^+ \to K^- \, Δ^{++} \to K^- \, p \, π^+$

Angular distribution of the final particles in the decay $Λ_c^+\to K^- \, Δ(1232)^{++} \to K^- \, p \, π^+$ of the polarized charmed baryon is discussed. Asymmetries are proposed which allow for determination of the components of the $Λ_c^+$ polarization vector. The precession angle of the polarization in the process of baryon channeling in a bent crystal is directly related to these asymmetries. The decay rate and asymmetry parameter for the $Λ_c^+\to K^- \, Δ(1232)^{++}$ decay are calculated in the pole model and compared with experiment.

Higgs boson decay to lepton pair and photon and possible non-Hermiticity of the Yukawa interaction

The production of lepton pairs in the Higgs boson decay $h \to \ell^+ \ell^- γ$ is studied. The emphasis is put on the structure of the Higgs boson interaction with the fermions. This interaction is chosen as a mixture of the scalar and pseudo-scalar couplings, and, in addition, it is supposed to be non-Hermitian. We study prediction of this model for the observables in the $h \to \ell^+ \ell^- γ$ decay for the $e^+ e^-$, $μ^+ μ^-$ and $τ^+ τ^-$ pairs. The differential decay width and lepton forward-backward asymmetry are calculated as functions of the dilepton invariant mass for several sets of $h f \bar{f}$ coupling constants. The influence of non-Hermitian $h f \bar{f}$ interaction on the forward-backward asymmetry is studied, and large influence of a possible non-Hermiticity of the Higgs interaction with the top quarks on forward-backward asymmetry for $e^+ e^-$ and $μ^+ μ^-$ pairs is stressed.

The prospect of charm quark magnetic moment determination

In this paper, we discuss the theoretical framework and the experimental measurements of the magnetic moment of the charm baryons. The $Λ_c^+$ magnetic moment is particularly interesting since it is equal to the magnetic moment of the charm quark. The measurements of the magnetic moments of other charm baryons, such as $Ξ_c$, allow to perform detailed spectroscopy studies. The magnetic moment of the $Λ_c$ can be determined using radiative charmonium decay and the present results show a tension with majority of theoretical predictions. As recently pointed out, the magnetic moment of the charm baryons can be directly measured using bent-crystal experiments at LHC. The possibility of precisely measure the magnetic moments of charm baryons needs precise measurement of their polarisation and weak decay parameters. In this paper, we revisit the formalism of the angular analysis needed for these measurements and make a detailed evaluation of initial polarisation of deflected $Λ_c$ baryons as a function of crystal orientation. We found a special orientation of the crystal that gives the opportunity to measure the $Λ_c$ dimensionless electric dipole moment almost with the same precision as its $g$-factor, which is more than an order of magnitude more efficient than suggested before. In conclusion, we stress the importance to perform precise measurements of initial polarisation and weak decay parameters of $Λ_c$ baryon to effectively compare the direct and from decay measurements of magnetic moments.

Polarization effects in radiative decay of polarized $τ$ lepton

The polarization effects in the one-meson radiative decay of the polarized $τ$ lepton, $τ^-\toπ^-γν_τ$, are investigated. The inner bremsstrahlung and structural amplitudes are taken into account. The asymmetry of the differential decay width caused by the $τ$ lepton polarization and the Stokes parameters of the emitted photon itself, are calculated depending on the polarization of the decaying $τ$ lepton. The numerical estimation of these physical quantities was done for arbitrary direction of the $τ$ lepton polarization 3-vector in the rest frame. The vector and axial-vector form factors describing the structure-dependent part of the decay amplitude are determined using the chiral effective theory with resonances (R$χ$T).

Comparing phenomenological recipes with a microscopic model for the electric amplitude in strangeness photoproduction

Corrections to the Born approximation in photo-induced strangeness production off a proton are calculated in a semi-realistic microscopic model. The vertex corrections and internal contributions to the amplitude of the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ reaction are included on the one-loop level. Different gauge-invariant phenomenological prescriptions for the modification of the Born contribution via the introduction of form factors and contact terms are discussed. In particular, it is shown that the popular minimal-substitution method of Ohta corresponds to a special limit of the more realistic approach.

Coherent Compton scattering on light nuclei in the delta resonance region

Coherent Compton scattering on light nuclei in the delta resonance region is studied in the impulse approximation and is shown to be a sensitive probe of the in-medium properties of the delta resonance. The elementary amplitude on a single nucleon is calculated from the unitary K-matrix approach developed previously. Modifications of the properties of the delta resonance due to the nuclear medium are accounted for through the self-energy operator of the delta, calculated from the one-pion loop. The dominant medium effects such as the Pauli blocking, mean-field modification of the nucleon and delta masses, and particle-hole excitations in the pion propagator are consistently included in nuclear matter.

Magnetic moment and radius of the nucleon in a nonlocal model of meson-nucleon interaction

Magnetic moment and radius of the nucleon are calculated in a nonlocal extension of the chiral linear σ-model. Properties of the nonlocal model under the vector and axial transformations are considered. The conserved electromagnetic and vector currents, and partially conserved axial vector current are obtained. In the calculation of the nucleon electromagnetic vertex the π- and σ-loop diagrams are included. Contribution from vector mesons is added in the vector meson dominance model with a gauge-invariant photon-meson coupling. The nonlocality parameter associated with the πN interaction is fixed from the experimental magnetic moment of the neutron. Other parameters (nonlocality parameter for the σN interaction and the mass of the σ-meson) are constrained by the magnetic moment of the proton. The calculated electric and magnetic mean-square radii of the proton and neutron are in satisfactory agreement with experiment.

Lepton-Pair Production in Virtual Compton Scattering off the Proton

We show that lepton-pair production in Virtual Compton Scattering offers, through interference with the well-known Bethe-Heitler process, a sensitive probe to learn the longitudinal response of resonances and the electromagnetic nucleon form factors. This interference can be measured directly in terms of an asymmetry. The role of off-shell effects in the N-N-$γ$ vertices is investigated as well. An additional N-N-$γ-γ$ contact term in the amplitude, included to ensure gauge invariance of the model, cancels a substantial part of the off-shell effects.
