alpha_s in DIS scheme

Deep inelastic scattering data on $F_2$ structure function from various fixed-target experiments were analyzed in a nonsinglet approximation in the MSbar and DIS scheme. The study of high statistics deep inelastic scattering data provided by BCDMS, SLAC and NMC collaborations, was carried out using a combined analysis. The application of the DIS scheme leads to the resummation of contributions that are important for large x values. It is found that using the DIS scheme does not significantly change the strong coupling constant itself but does strongly change the values of the twist-four corrections.

Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformation in three-dimensional quenched QED

We study the gauge-covariance of the massless fermion propagator in three-dimensional quenched Quantum Electrodynamics in the framework of dimensional regularization in d=3-2\ep. Assuming the finiteness of the quenched perturbative expansion, that is the existence of the limit \ep \to 0, we state that, exactly in d=3, all odd perturbative coefficients, starting with the third order one, should be zero in any gauge.

Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformation of the fermion propagator in massless reduced QED

We study the gauge-covariance of the massless fermion propagator in reduced Quantum Electrodynamics (QED). Starting from its value in some gauge, we evaluate an all order expression for it in another gauge by means of the Landau-Khalatnikov-Fradkin transformation. We find that the weak coupling expansions thus derived are in perfect agreement with the exact calculations. We also prove that the fermion anomalous dimension of reduced QED is gauge invariant to all orders of perturbation theory except for the first one.

Transverse momentum dependent parton densities in a proton from the generalized DAS approach

We use the Bessel-inspired behavior of parton densities at small Bjorken $x$ values, obtained in the case of the flat initial conditions for DGLAP evolution equations in the double scaling QCD approximation (DAS), to evaluate the transverse momentum dependent (TMD, or unintegrated) quark and gluon distribution functions in a proton. The calculations are performed analytically using the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) prescription with different implementation of kinematical constraint, reflecting the angular and strong ordering conditions. The relations between the differential and integral formulation of the KMR approach is discussed. Several phenomenological applications of the proposed TMD parton densities to the LHC processes are given.

Critical behaviour of ($2+1$)-dimensional QED: $1/N_f$-corrections in an arbitrary non-local gauge

Dynamical chiral symmetry breaking (D$χ$SB) is studied within ($2+1$)-dimensional QED with $N$ four-component fermions. The leading and next-to-leading orders of the $1/N$ expansion are computed exactly. The analysis is carried out in an arbitrary non-local gauge. Resumming the wave-function renormalization constant at the level of the gap equation yields a strong suppression of the gauge dependence of the critical fermion flavour number, $N_c(ξ)$ where $ξ$ is the gauge fixing parameter, which is such that D$χ$SB takes place for $N<N_c(ξ)$. Neglecting the weak gauge-dependent terms yields $N_c = 2.8469$ while, in the general case, it is found that: $N_c(1) = 3.0084$ in the Feynman gauge, $N_c(0) = 3.0844$ in the Landau gauge and $N_c(2/3)= 3.0377$ in the $ξ=2/3$ gauge where the leading order fermion wave function is finite. These results suggest that D$χ$SB should take place for integer values $N \leq 3$.

Critical behaviour of reduced QED$_{4,3}$ and dynamical fermion gap generation in graphene

The dynamical generation of a fermion gap in graphene is studied at the infra-red Lorentz-invariant fixed point where the system is described by an effective relativistic-like field theory: reduced QED$_{4,3}$ with $N$ four component fermions ($N=2$ for graphene), where photons are $(3+1)$-dimensional and mediate a fully retarded interaction among $(2+1)$-dimensional fermions. A correspondence between reduced QED$_{4,3}$ and QED$_3$ allows us to derive an exact gap equation for QED$_{4,3}$ up to next-to-leading order. Our results show that a dynamical gap is generated for $α> α_c$ where $1.03 < α_c < 1.08$ in the case $N=2$ or for $N < N_c$ where $N_c$ is such that $α_c \to \infty$ and takes the values $3.24 < N_c < 3.36$. The striking feature of these results is that they are in good agreement with values found in models with instantaneous Coulomb interaction. At the fixed point: $α= 1/137 \ll α_c$, and the system is therefore in the semi-metallic regime in accordance with experiments.

Improved nonsinglet QCD analysis of the fixed-target DIS data

Deep inelastic scattering data on $F_2$ structure function obtained by BCDMS, SLAC and NMC collaborations in fixed-target experiments were analyzed in the non-singlet approximation with next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy. The strong coupling constant is found to be $α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1157 \pm 0.0022 (total\,\,\,exp.error) + \biggl\{\begin{array}{l} +0.0028 \\ -0.0016 \end{array} (theor)$, which is seen to be well compatible with the average world value. Results obtained in the present paper by carrying out fits similar to those done in our earlier study, with the exception for systematic errors in BCDMS data taken into account in a different way, confirm those which were derived in that same paper.

Average gluon and quark jet multiplicities

We show the results in [1,2] for computing the QCD contributions to the scale evolution of average gluon and quark jet multiplicities. The new results came due a recent progress in timelike small-x resummation obtained in the MSbar factorization scheme. They depend on two nonperturbative parameters with clear and simple physical interpretations. A global fit of these two quantities to all available experimental data sets demonstrates by its goodness how our results solve a longstandig problem of QCD. Including all the available theoretical input within our approach, alphas(Mz)=0.1199 +- 0.0026 has been obtained in the MSbar scheme in an approximation equivalent to next-to-next-to-leading order enhanced by the resummations of ln x terms through the NNLL level and of ln Q2 terms by the renormalization group. This result is in excellent agreement with the present world average.

Interaction corrections to the minimal conductivity of graphene via dimensional regularization

We compute the two-loop interaction correction to the minimal conductivity of disorder-free intrinsic graphene with the help of dimensional regularization. The calculation is done in two different ways: via density-density and via current-current correlation functions. Upon properly renormalizing the perturbation theory, in both cases, we find that: $σ= σ_0\,( 1 + \al\,(19-6π)/12) \approx σ_0 \,(1 + 0.01\, \al)$, where $\al = e^2 / (4 π\hbar v)$ is the renormalized fine structure constant and $σ_0 = e^2 / (4 \hbar)$. Our results are consistent with experimental uncertainties and resolve a theoretical dispute.

Pomeron in the N=4 supersymmetric gauge model at strong couplings

We find the BFKL Pomeron intercept at N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory in the form of the inverse coupling expansion j0=2-2/lambda**(1/2)-1/lambda + 1/4 1/lambda**(3/2) + 2(1+3zeta3)/lambda**(2) + O(1/lambda**(5/2)) with the use of the AdS/CFT correspondence in terms of string energies calculated recently. The corresponding slope gamma'(2) of the anomalous dimension calculated directly up to the fifth order of perturbation theory turns out to be in an agreement with the closed expression obtained from the recent Basso results.

Q^2-evolution of parton densities at small x values and H1 and ZEUS experimental data

It is shown that in the leading twist approximation of the Wilson operator product expansion with "frozen" and analytic strong coupling constants, considering the Bessel-inspired behavior of the structure functions F2 and the derivative d ln F2/(d ln(1/x)) at small x values, obtained for a flat initial condition in the DGLAP evolution equations, leads to a good agreement with the deep inelastic scattering H1 and ZEUS experimental data from HERA

Q2-evolution of parton densities at small x values. Effective scale for combined H1 and ZEUS F2 data

We use the Bessel-inspired behavior of the structure function F2 at small x, obtained for a flat initial condition in the DGLAP evolution equations. We fix the scale of the coupling constant, which eliminates the singular part of anomalous dimesnions at the next-to-leading order of approximation. The approach together with the "frozen" and analytic modifications of the strong coupling constant is used to study the precise combined H1 and ZEUS data for the structure function F2 published recently.

Two-loop fermion self-energy in reduced quantum electrodynamics and application to the ultra-relativistic limit of graphene

We compute the two-loop fermion self-energy in massless reduced quantum electrodynamics for an arbitrary gauge using the method of integration by parts. Focusing on the limit where the photon field is four-dimensional, our formula involves only recursively one-loop integrals and can therefore be evaluated exactly. From this formula, we deduce the anomalous scaling dimension of the fermion field as well as the renormalized fermion propagator up to two loops. The results are then applied to the ultra-relativistic limit of graphene and compared with similar results obtained for four-dimensional and three-dimensional quantum electrodynamics.

Gluon- and Quark-Jet Multiplicities with NNNLO and NNLL Accuracy

We present a new approach to consider and include both the perturbative and the non-perturbative contributions to the multiplicities of gluon and quark jets. Thanks to this new method, we have included for the first time new contributions to these quantities obtaining next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic resummed formulas. Our analytic expressions depend on two non-perturbative parameters with a clear and simple physical interpretation. A global fit of these two quantities shows how our results solve a longstanding discrepancy in the theoretical description of the data.

Small x behavior of parton distributions. Analytical and "frozen" coupling constants. BFKL corrections

It is shown that in the leading twist approximation of the Wilson operator product expansion with "frozen" and analytic strong coupling constants, Bessel-inspired behavior of the structure functions F2 and F2cc and also the derivative d(ln F2)/d(ln(1/x)) at small x values, obtained for a flat initial condition in the DGLAP evolution equations, leads to good agreement with the deep inelastic scattering experimental data from HERA.

Effect of the analytic and frozen coupling constants in QCD up to NNLO from DIS data

We give a short review of our recent analysis [1] of the deep inelastic scattering data (provided by BCDMS, SLAC, NMC) on F2 structure function in the non-singlet approximation with up to next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy and analytic and frozen modifications of the strong coupling constant featuring no unphysical singularity (the Landau pole). Improvement of agreement between theory and experiment, with respect to the case of the standard perturbative definition of the strong coupling constant considered recently in [2], was observed.

On the critical behavior of (2+1)-dimensional QED

It is shown the analysis [1] for QED in 2+1 dimensions with N four-component fermions in the leading and next-to-leading orders of the 1/N expansion. As it was demonstrated in [1] the range of the admissible values N, where the dynamical fermion mass exist, decreases strongly with the increasing of the gauge charge. So, in Landau gauge the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking appears for N<3.78, that is very close to the results of the leading order and in Feynman gauge dynamical mass is completely absent.

Timelike Single-logarithm-resummed Splitting Functions

We calculate the single logarithmic contributions to the quark singlet and gluon matrix of timelike splitting functions at all orders in the modified minimal-subtraction (MSbar) scheme. We fix two of the degrees of freedom of this matrix from the analogous results in the massive-gluon regularization scheme by using the relation between that scheme and the MSbar scheme. We determine this scheme transformation from the double logarithmic contributions to the timelike splitting functions and the coefficient functions of inclusive particle production in e+ e- annihilation now available in both schemes. The remaining two degrees of freedom are fixed by reasonable physical assumptions. The results agree with the fixed-order results at next-to-next-to-leading order in the literature.

About QCD coupling constant at NNLO from DIS data

We give a brief review of our recent QCD analysis carried out over the deep inelastic scattering data on F2 structure function and in the non-singlet approximation to the accuracy up to next-to-next-to-leading-order. Specifically, analysis was performed over high statistics deep inelastic scattering data provided by BCDMS, SLAC, NMC and BFP collaborations. For the coupling constant the following value alpha_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1167 \pm 0.0022 was found.

Analytic and "frozen" QCD coupling constants up to NNLO from DIS data

Deep inelastic scattering data on the F_2 structure function provided by the BCDMS, SLAC and NMC collaborations are analyzed in the non-singlet approximation with the analytic and "frozen" modifications of the strong coupling constant featuring no unphysical singularity (the Landau pole). Improvement of agreement between theory and experiment, with respect to the case of the standard perturbative definition of alpha_s considered recently, is observed and the behavior of the higher twist terms in the next-to-next-to-leading-order is found to be confirming earlier studies on the subject.

QCD coupling constant at NNLO from DIS data

Deep inelastic scattering data on F2 structure function from various fixed-target experiments were analyzed in the non-singlet approximation with a next-to-next-to-leading-order accuracy. The study of high statistics deep inelastic scattering data provided by BCDMS, SLAC, NMC and BFP collaborations was carried out separately for the first one and the rest, followed by a combined analysis done as well. For the coupling constant the following value α_s(M_Z^2) = 0.1167 +/- 0.0021 (total exp.error) +0.0056/-0.0036(theor) was found, which in this approximation turns out to be slightly less than that obtained at the next-to-leading-order, as was generally anticipated. Ditto the theoretical uncertainties reduced with respect to those obtained in the case of the next-to-leading-order analysis thus confirming earlier observations.

Orthopositronium lifetime at O(alpha) and O(alpha^3 ln(alpha)) in closed form

Recently, the O(alpha) and O(alpha^3 ln(alpha)) radiative corrections to the orthopositronium lifetime have been presented in closed analytical form, in terms of basic irrational numbers that can be evaluated numerically to arbitrary precision [Phys. Rev. Lett. 101, 193401 (2008)]. Here, we present the details of this calculation and reveal the nature of these new constants. We also list explicit transformation formulas for generalized polylogarithms of weight four, which may be useful for other applications.

Three-loop universal anomalous dimension of the Wilson operators in N=4 SUSY Yang-Mills model

We present results for the three-loop universal anomalous dimension of Wilson twist-2 operators in the N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills model. These results are obtained by extracting the most complicated contributions from the three loop non-singlet anomalous dimensions in QCD which were calculated recently. Their singularities at j=1 agree with the predictions obtained from the BFKL equation for N=4 SYM in the next-to-leading order. The asymptotics of universal anomalous dimension at large j is in an agreement with the expectations based on an interpolation between weak and strong coupling regimes in the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence.

Analytical evolution of nucleon structure functions with power corrections at twist-4 and predictions for ultra-high energy neutrino-nucleon cross section

In this paper we present an analytic result for the evolution in $Q^2$ of the structure functions for the neutrino-nucleon interaction, valid at twist-2 in the region of small values of the Bjorken $x$ variable and for soft non-perturbative input. In the special case of flat initial conditions, we include in the calculation also the contribution of the twist-4 gluon recombination corrections, whose effect in the evolution is explicitly determined. Finally, we estimate the resulting charged-current neutrino-nucleon total cross section and discuss its behavior at ultra-high energies.

DGLAP and BFKL evolution equations in the N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory

We derive the DGLAP and BFKL evolution equations in the N=4 supersymmetric gauge theory in the next-to-leading approximation. The eigenvalue of the BFKL kernel in this model turns out to be an analytic function of the conformal spin |n|. Its analytic continuation to negative |n| in the leading logarithmic approximation allows us to obtain residues of anomalous dimensions γof twist-2 operators in the non-physical points j=0,-1,... from the BFKL equation in an agreement with their direct calculation from the DGLAP equation. Moreover, in the multi-color limit of the N=4 model the BFKL and DGLAP dynamics in the leading logarithmic approximation is integrable for an arbitrary number of particles. In the next-to-leading approximation the holomorphic separability of the Pomeron hamiltonian is violated, but the corresponding Bethe-Salpeter kernel has the property of a hermitian separability. The main singularities of anomalous dimensions γat j=-r obtained from the BFKL and DGLAP equations in the next-to-leading approximation coincide but our accuracy is not enough to verify an agreement for residues of subleading poles.

Small x behavior of the slope dlnF_2/dln(1/x) in the framework of perturbative QCD

Using an analytical parameterization for the behavior of the x slope of the structure function F_2 at small x in perturbative QCD, at the leading twist approximation of the Wilson operator product expansion, and applying a flat initial condition in the DGLAP evolution equations, we found very good agreement with new precise deep inelastic scattering experimental data from HERA.

The contribution of off-shell gluons to the longitudinal structure function F_L

We present results for the structure function F_L for a gluon target having nonzero transverse momentum square at order α_s. The results of double convolution (with respect to Bjorken variable x and the transverse momentum) of the perturbative part and the unintegrated gluon densities are compared with recent experimental data for F_L at low x values and with predictions of other approaches.

The contribution of off-shell gluons to the structure functions F_2^c and F_L^c$ and the unintegrated gluon distributions

We calculate the perturbative parts of the structure functions $F_2^c$ and $F_L^c$ for a gluon target having nonzero transverse momentum squared at order $α_s$. The results of the double convolution (with respect to the Bjorken variable $x_B$ and the transverse momentum) of the perturbative part and the unintegrated gluon densities are compared with HERA experimental data for $F_2^c$. The contribution from $F_L^c$ structure function ranges (10-30)% of that of $F_2^c$ at the kinematical range of HERA experiments.

NLO corrections to the BFKL equation in QCD and in supersymmetric gauge theories

We study next-to-leading corrections to the integral kernel of the BFKL equation for high energy cross-sections in QCD and in supersymmetric gauge theories. The eigenvalue of the BFKL kernel is calculated in an analytic form as a function of the anomalous dimension γof the local gauge-invariant operators and their conformal spin n. For the case of an extended N=4 SUSY the kernel is significantly simplified. In particular, the terms non-analytic in n are canceled. We discuss the relation between the DGLAP and BFKL equations in the N=4 model.

Compact analytical form for a class of three-loop vacuum Feynman diagrams

We present compact, fully analytical expressions for singular parts of a class of three-loop diagrams which cannot be factorized into lower-loop integrals. As a result of the calculations we obtain the analytical expression for the three-loop effective potential of the massive O(N) ϕ^4 model presented recently by J.-M.Chung and B.K.Chung, Phys.Rev. The QCD analysis of the revised CCFR data for xF_3 structure function: the next-to-next-to-leading order and Padé approximants

The next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) QCD analysis of the revised experimental data of the CCFR collaboration for the $xF_3$ structure function of the deep-inelastic scattering of neutrinos and antinuetrinos on the nucleons is made by means of the Jacobi polynomial expansion technique. The NNLO values of the QCD coupling constant are determined both without and with twist--4 contributions taken into account. Theoretical ambiguities of $α_s$ are fixed using the methods of the Padé approximants. We observe that the [0/2] Padé approximant is more appropriate for this purpose than the [1/1] one.

Compact analytical form for non-zeta terms in critical exponents at order 1/N^3

We simplify, to a single integral of dilogarithms, the least tractable O(1/N^3) contribution to the large-N critical exponent $η$ of the non-linear sigma-model, and hence $ϕ^4$-theory, for any spacetime dimensionality, D. It is the sole generator of irreducible multiple zeta values in epsilon-expansions with $D=2-2ε$, for the sigma-model, and $D=4-2ε$, for $ϕ^4$-theory. In both cases we confirm results of Broadhurst, Gracey and Kreimer (BGK) that relate knots to counterterms. The new compact form is much simpler than that of BGK. It enables us to develop 8 new terms in the epsilon-expansion with $D=3-2ε$. These involve alternating Euler sums, for which the basis of irreducibles is larger. We conclude that massless Feynman diagrams in odd spacetime dimensions share the greater transcendental complexity of massive diagrams in even dimensions, such as those contributing to the electron's magnetic moment and the electroweak $ρ$-parameter. Consequences for the perturbative sector of Chern-Simons theory are discussed.

Next-to-next-to-leading order QCD analysis of the CCFR data for xF_3 and F_2 structure functions of the deep-inelastic neutrino-nucleon scattering

The next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) non-singlet QCD analysis of the experimental data of the CCFR collaboration for the $xF_3$ and $F_2$ structure functions of the deep-inelastic scattering of neutrinos and antineutrinos on the nucleon by means of the Jacobi polinomial expansion method is made. The target mass corrections are also taken into account. We demonstrate that the NNLO corrections have the important: they are decreasing the difference between the values of $α_s(M_Z)$, extracted from the NLO fit of $xF_3$ data and from the NLO non-singlet fit of the combined $xF_3$ and $F_2$ CCFR data. The obtained NNLO results for $α_s(M_Z)$ are :$α_s(M_Z)=0.109 \pm 0.003(stat) \pm 0.005(syst) \pm 0.003 (theor)$ (from $xF_3$ data) and $α_s(M_Z)=0.111\pm 0.002 (stat) \pm 0.003 (syst) \pm 0.003 (theor)$ (from the combined $xF_3$ and $F_2$ data). We also estimate the values of the order $O(α_s^2)$-corrections to the Gottfried sum rule.

The Longitudinal Structure Function F$_L$ as a Function of F$_2$ and dF$_2$/dlnQ$^2$ at small x. The Next-to-Leading Analysis

We present a set of formulae to extract the longitudinal deep inelastic structure function $F_L$ from the transverse structure function $F_2$ and its derivative $dF_2/dlnQ^2$ at small $x$. Our expressions are valid for any value of $δ$, being $x^{-δ}$ the behavior of the parton densities at low $x$. Using $F_2$ HERA data we obtain $F_L$ in the range $10^{-4} \leq x \leq 10^{-2}$ at $Q^2=20$ GeV$^2$. Some other applications of the formulae are pointed out.
