Democratic Mass Matrices From Five Dimensions

We reconstruct the Standard Model (SM) quark masses and the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix from a five-dimensional model, with the fifth dimension compactified on an S^1/Z_2 orbifold. Fermions are localized only at the orbifold fixed points and the induced quark mass matrices are almost democratic. Two specific versions of our model with 15 and 24 parameters are presented, and for both versions we can reproduce the quark mass spectrum and CKM matrix correctly to the level they are observed in current experiments.

Phenomenology of a Quark Mass Matrix from Six Dimensions and its implication for the Strong CP problem

A model of quark mass matrices from six dimensions, which is nearly democatic in nature and which is previously constructed by two of us (PQH and MS), is studied in detail in this manuscript. We found that not only it fits all the six quark masses as well as the CKM matrix but also that there exists a region in the allowed parameter space of the model where the constraint on the parameter \barθ of the Strong CP problem is satisfied. This region itself puts a constraint on the CKM parameters \barρ and \barη. As such, through our analysis, there appears to be a deep connection between Strong and Weak CP in this model

A new evaluation of the t->cH decay width in the standard model

We present a new calculation of the t->cH decay rate in the standard model. We find that the corresponding branching fraction is B(t->cH) \sim 10^{-13} - 10^{-14} for M_Z < m_H < 2 M_W, that is about 6 orders of magnitude less than previously evaluated, and usually quoted in the literature.
