A rare case of FR I interaction with a hot X-ray bridge in the A2384 galaxy cluster

Clusters of varying mass ratios can merge and the process significantly disturbs the cluster environments and alters their global properties. Active radio galaxies are another phenomenon that can also affect cluster environments. Radio jets can interact with the intra-cluster medium (ICM) and locally affect its properties. Abell~2384 (hereafter A2384) is a unique system that has a dense, hot X-ray filament or bridge connecting the two unequal mass clusters A2384(N) and A2384(S). The analysis of its morphology suggests that A2384 is a post-merger system where A2384(S) has already interacted with the A2384(N), and as a result hot gas has been stripped over a ~ 1 Mpc region between the two bodies. We have obtained its 325 MHz GMRT data, and we detected a peculiar FR I type radio galaxy which is a part of the A2384(S). One of its radio lobes interacts with the hot X-ray bridge and pushes the hot gas in the opposite direction. This results in displacement in the bridge close to A2384(S). Based on Chandra and XMM-Newton X-ray observations, we notice a temperature and entropy enhancement at the radio lobe-X-ray plasma interaction site, which further suggests that the radio lobe is changing thermal plasma properties. We have also studied the radio properties of the FR I radio galaxy, and found that the size and radio luminosity of the interacting north lobe of the FR I galaxy are lower than those of the accompanying south lobe.

Decay of the Kohn mode in hydrodynamic regime

We develop a hydrodynamic description of the collective modes of interacting liquids in a quasi-one-dimensional confining potential. By solving Navier-Stokes equations we determine analytically excitation spectrum of sloshing oscillations. For parabolic confinement, the lowest frequency eigenmode is not renormalized by interactions and is protected from decay by the Kohn theorem, which states that center of mass motion decouples from internal dynamics. We find that the combined effect of potential anharmonicity and interactions results in the depolarization shift and final lifetime of the Kohn mode. All other excited modes of sloshing oscillations thermalize with the parametrically faster rates. Our results are significant for the interpretation of recent experiments with trapped Fermi gases that observed weak violation of the Kohn theorem.

Effects of interaction on field-induced resonances in confined Fermi liquid

We consider the two-dimensional electron gas confined laterally to a narrow channel by a harmonic potential. As the Zeeman splitting matches the intersubband separation the nonlocal spin polarization develops a minimum as reported by Frolov et al. [Nature (London) 458, 868 (2009)]. This phenomenon termed Ballistic Spin Resonance is due to the degeneracy between the nearest oppositely polarized subbands that is lifted by spin-orbit coupling. We showed that the resonance survives the weak and short-range interaction. The latter detunes it and as a result shifts the Zeeman splitting at which the minimum in spin polarization occurs. Here this shift is attributed to the absence of Kohn theorem for the spin sloshing collective mode. We characterized the shift due to weak interaction qualitatively by analyzing the spin sloshing mode within the Fermi liquid phenomenology.

Advanced LEACH: A Static Clustering-based Heteroneous Routing Protocol for WSNs

Wireless Sensors Networks (WSNs) have a big application in heterogeneous networks. In this paper, we propose and evaluate Advanced Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (Ad-LEACH) which is static clustering based heterogeneous routing protocol. The complete network field is first divided into static clusters and then in each cluster separate Ad-LEACH protocol is applied. Our proposed protocol is inherited from LEACH with a cluster head selection criteria of Distributed Energy-Efficient Clustering (DEEC). This enables Ad-LEACH to cope with the heterogeneous nature of nodes. Due to small static clusters, each node reduces its broadcast message power because it only has to cover a small area. We perform simulations in MATLAB to check the efficiency of Ad-LEACH. The Simulation results show that Ad-LEACH outperforms LEACH and DEEC in energy efficiency as well as throughput.

BEENISH: Balanced Energy Efficient Network Integrated Super Heterogeneous Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

In past years there has been increasing interest in field of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). One of the major issue of WSNs is development of energy efficient routing protocols. Clustering is an effective way to increase energy efficiency. Mostly, heterogenous protocols consider two or three energy level of nodes. In reality, heterogonous WSNs contain large range of energy levels. By analyzing communication energy consumption of the clusters and large range of energy levels in heterogenous WSN, we propose BEENISH (Balanced Energy Efficient Network Integrated Super Heterogenous) Protocol. It assumes WSN containing four energy levels of nodes. Here, Cluster Heads (CHs) are elected on the bases of residual energy level of nodes. Simulation results show that it performs better than existing clustering protocols in heterogeneous WSNs. Our protocol achieve longer stability, lifetime and more effective messages than Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering (DEEC), Developed DEEC (DDEEC) and Enhanced DEEC (EDEEC).

EDDEEC: Enhanced Developed Distributed Energy-Efficient Clustering for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of large number of randomly deployed energy constrained sensor nodes. Sensor nodes have ability to sense and send sensed data to Base Station (BS). Sensing as well as transmitting data towards BS require high energy. In WSNs, saving energy and extending network lifetime are great challenges. Clustering is a key technique used to optimize energy consumption in WSNs. In this paper, we propose a novel clustering based routing technique: Enhanced Developed Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering scheme (EDDEEC) for heterogeneous WSNs. Our technique is based on changing dynamically and with more efficiency the Cluster Head (CH) election probability. Simulation results show that our proposed protocol achieves longer lifetime, stability period and more effective messages to BS than Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering (DEEC), Developed DEEC (DDEEC) and Enhanced DEEC (EDEEC) in heterogeneous environments.

Energy Consumption Rate based Stable Election Protocol (ECRSEP) for WSNs

In recent few yearsWireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have seen an increased interest in various applications like border field security, disaster management and medical applications. So large number of sensor nodes are deployed for such applications, which can work autonomously. Due to small power batteries in WSNs, efficient utilization of battery power is an important factor. Clustering is an efficient technique to extend life time of sensor networks by reducing the energy consumption. In this paper, we propose a new protocol; Energy Consumption Rate based Stable Election Protocol (ECRSEP). Our CH selection scheme is based on the weighted election probabilities of each node according to the Energy Consumption Rate (ECR) of each node. We compare results of our proposed protocol with Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH), Distributed Energy Efficient Clustering (DEEC), Stable Election Protocol (SEP), and Enhanced SEP(ESEP). Our simulation results show that our proposed protocol, ECRSEP outperforms all these protocols in terms of network stability and network lifetime.

On Adaptive Energy Efficient Transmission in WSNs

One of the major challenges in design of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is to reduce energy consumption of sensor nodes to prolong lifetime of finite-capacity batteries. In this paper, we propose Energy-efficient Adaptive Scheme for Transmission (EAST) in WSNs. EAST is an IEEE 802.15.4 standard compliant. In this scheme, open-loop is used for temperature-aware link quality estimation and compensation. Whereas, closed-loop feedback process helps to divide network into three logical regions to minimize overhead of control packets. Threshold on transmitter power loss (RSSIloss) and current number of nodes (nc(t)) in each region help to adapt transmit power level (Plevel) according to link quality changes due to temperature variation. Evaluation of propose scheme is done by considering mobile sensor nodes and reference node both static and mobile. Simulation results show that propose scheme effectively adapts transmission Plevel to changing link quality with less control packets overhead and energy consumption as compared to classical approach with single region in which maximum transmitter Plevel assigned to compensate temperature variation.

Q-LEACH: A New Routing Protocol for WSNs

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) with their dynamic applications gained a tremendous attention of researchers. Constant monitoring of critical situations attracted researchers to utilize WSNs at vast platforms. The main focus in WSNs is to enhance network life-time as much as one could, for efficient and optimal utilization of resources. Different approaches based upon clustering are proposed for optimum functionality. Network life-time is always related with energy of sensor nodes deployed at remote areas for constant and fault tolerant monitoring. In this work, we propose Quadrature-LEACH (Q-LEACH) for homogenous networks which enhances stability period, network life-time and throughput quiet significantly.

The Fourth Element: Characteristics, Modelling, and Electromagnetic Theory of the Memristor

In 2008, researchers at HP Labs published a paper in {\it Nature} reporting the realisation of a new basic circuit element that completes the missing link between charge and flux-linkage, which was postulated by Leon Chua in 1971. The HP memristor is based on a nanometer scale TiO$_2$ thin-film, containing a doped region and an undoped region. Further to proposed applications of memristors in artificial biological systems and nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM), they also enable reconfigurable nanoelectronics. Moreover, memristors provide new paradigms in application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). A significant reduction in area with an unprecedented memory capacity and device density are the potential advantages of memristors for Integrated Circuits (ICs). This work reviews the memristor and provides mathematical and SPICE models for memristors. Insight into the memristor device is given via recalling the quasi-static expansion of Maxwell's equations. We also review Chua's arguments based on electromagnetic theory.
