Photon asymmetry measurements of γ→p→π0p\overrightarrowγ \mathrm{p} \rightarrow π^{0} \mathrm{p} for Eγ_γ=320−-650 MeV

High statistics measurements of the photon asymmetry Σ\mathrmΣ for the γ→\overrightarrowγp→π0\rightarrowπ^{0}p reaction have been made in the center of mass energy range W=1214-1450 MeV. The data were measured with the MAMI A2 real photon beam and Crystal Ball/TAPS detector systems in Mainz, Germany. The results significantly improve the existing world data and are shown to be in good agreement with previous measurements, and with the MAID, SAID, and Bonn-Gatchina predictions. We have also combined the photon asymmetry results with recent cross-section measurements from Mainz to calculate the profile functions, Σˇ\check{\mathrmΣ} (= σ0Σσ_{0}\mathrmΣ), and perform a moment analysis. Comparison with calculations from the Bonn-Gatchina model shows that the precision of the data is good enough to further constrain the higher partial waves, and there is an indication of interference between the very small FF-waves and the N(1520)3/2−N(1520) 3/2^{-} and N(1535)1/2−N(1535) 1/2^{-} resonances.

Measurement of spin-dependent total cross-section difference ΔσTΔσ_T in neutron-proton scattering at 16 MeV

A new measurement of ΔσTΔσ_T for polarized neutrons transmitted through a polarized proton target at 16.2 MeV has been made. A polarized neutron beam was obtained from the 3H(d,n⃗)4He^{3}\rm{H}(d,\vec n)^{4}\rm{He} reaction; proton polarization over 90\% was achieved in a frozen spin target of 20 cm3^3 volume. The measurement yielded the value ΔσT=(−126±21±14)Δσ_T=(-126\pm21\pm14) mb. The result of a simple phase shift analysis for the 3S1−3D1^3S_1-^3D_1 mixing parameter ε1ε_1 is presented and compared with the theoretical potential model predictions.
