Systematical study of optical potential strengths in reactions involving strongly, weakly bound and exotic nuclei on $^{120}$Sn

We present new experimental angular distributions for the elastic scattering of $^6$Li$+^{120}$Sn at three bombarding energies. We include these data in a wide systematic involving the elastic scattering of $^{4,6}$He, $^7$Li, $^9$Be, $^{10}$B and $^{16,18}$O projectiles on the same target at energies around the respective Coulomb barriers. Considering this data set, we report on optical model analyses based on the double-folding Sao Paulo Potential. Within this approach, we study the sensitivity of the data fit to different models for the nuclear matter densities and to variations in the optical potential strengths.

Uncertainties of optical-model parameters for the study of the threshold anomaly

In the analysis of elastic-scattering experimental data, optical-model parameters (usually, depths of real and imaginary potentials) are fitted and conclusions are drawn analyzing their variations at bombardment energies close to the Coulomb barrier (threshold anomaly). The judgement about the shape of this variation (related to the physical processes producing this anomaly) depends on these fitted values but the robustness of the conclusions strongly depends on the uncertainties with which these parameters are derived. We will show that previous published studies have not used a common criterium for the evaluation of the parameter uncertainties. In this work, a study of these uncertainties is presented, using conventional statistic tools as well as bootstrapping techniques. As case studies, these procedures are applied to re-analyze detailed elastic-scattering data for the $^{12}$C + $^{208}$Pb and the $^6$Li + $^{80}$Se systems.

Comparison of 120Sn(6He,6He)120Sn and 120Sn(alpha,alpha)120Sn elastic scattering and signatures of the 6He neutron halo in the optical potential

Cross sections of $^{120}$Sn($α$,$α$)$^{120}$Sn elastic scattering have been extracted from the $α$ particle beam contamination of a recent $^{120}$Sn($^6$He,$^6$He)$^{120}$Sn experiment. Both reactions are analyzed using systematic double folding potentials in the real part and smoothly varying Woods-Saxon potentials in the imaginary part. The potential extracted from the $^{120}$Sn($^6$He,$^6$He)$^{120}$Sn data may be used as the basis for the construction of a simple global $^6$He optical potential. The comparison of the $^6$He and $α$ data shows that the halo nature of the $^6$He nucleus leads to a clear signature in the reflexion coefficients $η_L$: the relevant angular momenta $L$ with $η_L \gg 0$ and $η_L \ll 1$ are shifted to larger $L$ with a broader distribution. This signature is not present in the $α$ scattering data and can thus be used as a new criterion for the definition of a halo nucleus.
